Didn't Chris say that they wouldn't introduce new higher tier item mods?

Honestly, I am a person who have dedicated a lot of time in my store/trading and farming to be able to afford mirrored Gear

Do I need the best item? No, not at all
Do I like to have a precise goal? Yes
Do I like to play with really good gear? YES!

Honestly I dont care of the change, maybe my bow will worth 25% less maybe 20% less or maybe 50%.

I dont care.

Anyway, GGG can do what they want, I will adapt myself and If they change really make me unhappy then Ill go somewhere else. That is it!

Have fun! And go buy my stuff...

He has said it's something we don't, in general, want to do. He has not said that we will not do it, or that there won't ever be circumstances required where despite the negatives, it's the best option for the good of the game.

The OP, which I responded to, asked whether he had said we would not do this, and the answer to that question is no.

To my recollection, the answer is yes. How about a linked source, so we can put it to rest? At the moment it's just one side's word against another, and i tend to believe my recollection rather than another 3rd party's (no offense ;).

I distinctly recall ~4-5 years ago, not long after i heard about PoE, one of the marketing/"promises" was that items would not be invalidated with expansions in this game. I.e. "we will not do this". What you're saying goes squarely against my recollection. The idea wouldn't have stayed in my mind if it was "we'll try not to obsolete player items through expansions like other games do".

I'm not saying Chris himself necessarily said this, but it was posted one or more times by GGG / on the website, whoever it was. In those early days it's likely it was him.

100% on point, Charan :)

@Charan: The thing is that people are not generally upset (well, maybe they are, but i want to talk about those that have specified their concerns). They are upset because they think/know/assume that a promise was given that something that happens would never happen. That's the point. And i want you to show me the guy who spent a lot of real-life ressources on an object, promised that it will keep it's value, when the value is decreased and is NOT going to explode / implode on this. Especially, when the promise-giver was regarded as a trustworthy, solid-to-death institution. Sounds familiar? Well. Every single bancrupt person in the world because of the bank-crisis can sing a song about it. People DO get angry when they are given promises that are broken. The only thing we (or better: GGG) has to make clear is: Has there ever been a promise? Were people really fooling themselves or were they fooled?

If not: Then your argument is valid. If so: Then the people have every fucking right to be upset. As long as you don't try to downgrade the effort they put into this game by pointing out that they only obtained "virtual goods". Because it is not that easy. As you wrote: Along with ingame-wealth comes power and many other goals people love to achieve. Especially in games. Because that is what they were made for. And well: In the times of twitch, youtube and money you can make with this platforms, virtual goods count. More than ever. That's what also got me when there was the bug that killed items: People always said "it's only pixels". But for some those pixels are the tools to do their craft.

And regarding the beekeeper-analogy: "Don't care" is a sentence that should never be used when talking about bees ;) Their system is too vulnerable.
The Sirus fight is a disgrace.

The whole item devaluation thing that Chris said, even if it was not a promise, was somewhat misguiding. Did he refer to item power or item value? Did it put excessive expectatives on the people?

It doesn't help that the reasons for the changes were barely explained (it makes some sense if you think about it, it improves the odds of getting more powerful items; it probably doesn't have anything to do with the standard economy).

Anyway, this wouldn't have happened in first place if the MoK + Et would have been removed in first place.

Now it has the potential of becoming a mini PR clusterfuck, :P

PS: I guess the economy is not as primary as some would say...

If we're going to get into a debate regarding semantics, it might be worthwhile clearly defining how the current mirrored items have been 'invalidated', if this is the core argument that is causing distress.

I think if you can indicate a time where Chris has said "We will never devalue an item", then we may be hitting closer to the bone.

The problem is that this the players expressing concern are upset because of changes to the perceived value or revenue generation potential of an item - this is a very far cry from the concept of 'invalidating' which would indicate that the items in question no longer have a use in the main aspect of the game - killing shit, and picking shit up.

If I was going to argue against the item affix changes, I would be significantly more likely to bitch and moan about what the changes to item implicits are going to have on my mirrored items - if we are going to modify the base implicit crit chance of daggers or wands, is this going to fuck the current stats on my Mind Weaver or Corpse Gutter?

Hell, I paid the equivalent of 280ex for these items each - are the affixes going to change without any control from me? If so, I want a refund. (This is hypothetical, I don't own these items, nor would I actually request a refund if I did).

+1 to Clive below, as well - perspective is something of a rare commodity in todays world, it should really be made available as a daily diet supplement.

Gamers do, at the very least. People in general I'd like to believe have a sufficient amount of perspective to understand roughly how shit works.

This comes back to repercussions. Why do we have perspective IRL? Because if you lose it, you lose a lot more than your character or some items in a game.

But my stock broker PROMISED me that those stocks would never decrease in value! I want my money back!

People who buy a mirrored item are not buying bank bonds, it s more they are buying a Picasso or a Monet. They know another painting could worth more but they also think the painting they bought will be forever a master craft.

The problem come if you start to make those newt2-oldt1 easier to get: if everyone have a weapon like those old mirrored, their value become null and GGG will raise the monsters life and HP because most players are too powerful.
