Agreed, she's ridiculously enigmatic. I was always expecting a reveal later on, but all I got was "she's evil".

Well, she IS evil!!

Piety is such a half-baked McGuffin they're better off creating an entirely new character to develop lore rather than trying to flesh out her train wreck of a character.

Care to elaborate on that?

Which part needs further explanation: The part where I suggest they focus on new characters or the part where I suggest Piety not be developed further?

Maybe you should elaborate >=D

The part where you feel she's a half-baked McGuffin, as that's the basis for the rest of your statement.

Sorry if that somehow wasn't clear...
Playing: BetterInTheDark (S), CrossPurposes (T), DeathOnTheRoad (D), DevilAndDaughter (W), HardAsIron (M), IfYouWantBlood (M), PutTheFingerOnYou (W).

I quite like her as a villian, but presentation-wise PoE is very basic - sometimes lacking, even. It took me even quite some time to figure out, that she's the leitmotif of the game, at all. Granted I didn't play everything consecutively, most of all some parts without voice acting back in CB, and thus didn't pay close attention to those parts during OB.

Also, though you seem to run into her wherever trouble is, you never get any idea, what she's working towards or what you are actually trying to prevent. Admittedly a whole backstory could be counterproductive, but I'd like to be able to find some lab reports of her twisted experiments in Lunaris Temple, for example. It would enhance the grisly mood and perhaps even give the player some personal motivation to stop her.

This. I think lab reports, or a journal, or a diary would be an epic way to get an idea of what she's trying to accomplish.
Piety (and bosses in general) could use more in-fight dialogue.

I always kind of liked how when you first encounter Piety, she seems like your standard "corrupt high-ranking clergy" character, but then in Act 3 you discover that she's really

a batspit insane mad scientist.

This is still Beta. Don't expect the storyline to be fleshed out until very close (if not at) release.

Kwonryu, those are 2 AWESOME pictures! Where did you find them? Did you make them yourself? :)
Yeah, this is really something they need to work on. She's just ... THERE in Act 1 and 2, and we're stuck wondering why we should care.
Invited to Beta 2012-03-18 / Supporter since 2012-04-08
This has been a problem with me also. I have made a couple of suggestions which may help in another post on this forum:- New Entry Level Quest'

I'd appreciate feedback on this because I write and I have a few suggestions on the lore I'd like to make...

Its probably been said, but the way diablo 3 did it with journal entries (sorry to mention the game that must not be spoken of) was one thing they did do right with that game. Perhaps you could have Piety's journal entries dropped in different places as the game progresses through act 2 / 3 with voice acting. Love the game, would just like to know more about the world it takes place in and the people who play major roles.

Journal entries and dropped notes were terrible. Am I supposed to believe Deckard had a hundred satchels with a hundred journals and he kept losing them? Also, that a demon lord would handwrite orders to his minions? Fuck that shit.
