jewels discussion: bringing RNG and Economy to the Passive Tree
" Sorry for snipping your post like that but I don't have the time to answer to every long winded post directed at me on the forums :x I picked this sentence because again it shows the core of your literally unsolvable problem with the game. What you're asking for is to be on the same level as traders (that's what 'not punishing' you for not trading would mean) and that's impossible for hopefully obvious reasons. So why are you asking for it? GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence. Last edited by Xavderion#3432 on Apr 18, 2015, 4:51:12 AM

" While the first half of your post certainly isn't true (else GGG wouldnt've had increased map drop rates, wouldn't have introduced master crafting etc), the second half indeed is. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" no, no, no. and you would know that's not what I'm asking, if you snipped the one sentence above that one, where I clearly state I accept being locked out of the obvious advantages of trading. so again, I am asking to not be punished for not trading. I think I made myself crystal clear on what exactly that means. and in the Passive Tree's case discussed here, I will be. hit harder than ever before. because when RNG invades my lawn, it's going to shit all over it until I give up and trade. shit on the thing I value the most in this game. the thing that - more than anything else really - keeps me playing for as long as I have. people who trade, can't care less. you guys only see the pluses, and there indeed are pluses: dynamic builds that change in a heartbeat. being able to do stuff you weren't able to previously. letting creativity run wild with crazy node + Jewel combinations... but there's one giant minus only people who'll actually need to deal with this "RNG invasion", can truly see coming. so I'd like an implementation that gives you (and us all) at least some of the pluses, but doesn't him me with the giant minus in the face. " They designed the game so that players would interact with each other. Trading is a part of the concept that GGG wished to be in the game. You are choosing to not trade. So be it. They are not punishing you for your stance on the subject. You're making the choice to punish yourself by not accepting it. Sure, many wish that the game didn't require trading, or at the very least, not as much as it does now. But it's not something GGG has tried to really improve on. Again, those people who choose to not trade do so of their own volition and they accept the consequences. |

" They increased map drop rates because they were kinda ridiculous to maintain, you're a close beta supporter so you probably know people used to exalt and divine their high level maps and often wouldn't get shit back. And master crafting helps everyone in a lot of ways. |

" Ok so I shouldn't take the punishing part too literal. What I don't get is how the jewel situation is different from all the other parts of the game. You, as a non-trader, already have subpar gear and subpar gems. With Act 4 you will have subpar jewels. Why is the latter a problem when the former isn't? It's basically the same thing and that's why I said before it makes sense. GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

" Once again people seem to equate this protest with jealousy. For the most part it's not and its amazing you fail to see that. In all prior versions of PoE the passive skill tree was the one factor that people never had to be concerned about when they wanted to pick up a new build. To try a build someone found interesting, they had the same base to work with (tree) and then would try to fill in gears as much as possible given various constraints like self-found things + trading + crafting + etc. Now there is no longer this buffer for new players or those looking to borrow/copy ideas from others, and there will be some consequence. I also just realize that this means that those same new players or those looking to borrow/copy will be FORCED to innovate their chars much more than in the past, given that it will be difficult to *always* have access to the same useful/flexible/powerful jewels as those showcased builds on forums. This new reality somewhat changes my opinion of jewels...maybe they are better for the game than I thought. Definitely will take some time to fully grasp the impact of it, no sooner than end of beta will we have a good idea of it imo. For POE Devs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea6UuRTjkKs

" it's not the same thing, and it's a lot more than just sub-par Gear + sub-par Gems + sub-par Jewels (although I hope you already see just how bad the combination of all three, is). it's about no longer being able to do, what I am able to do right now: pick whatever nodes I want, and travel however I want to travel to them. control. freedom. deterministically defining whatever I want my character to be. RNG in the Passive Tree is worse than "RNG in one more place", because it's the Passive Tree. GGG constantly shove RNG into places it doesn't belong in, but the Passive Tree is not just "one place too many". it's the game's crown jewel to many players (myself included), and the main reason why I'm still here. take that away from me and... well, let's just say there's a high chance you'll no longer need to read my complaints on the PoE forum ever again. yes, I am aware it sounds like great news to you. finally a way to get rid of pesky JK screaming "risk/reward" and SF/anti-economy/anti-RNG everywhere. but I believe I'm not alone at thinking the Passive Tree is - quite literally - the last straw. " It's not a bad combination, it's a logical one if you deliberately play the game in a sub-par way by gimping yourself. " From what we've seen until now this isn't true. You don't even have to insert jewels into the empty slots to travel through them, it's basically an empty filler slot then. " That's just like your opinion, man. I wholeheartedly disagree :) GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
