Why are so many buils behind a paywall?

Your problem is that you try to copy existing builds. Ofc they will be expensive because everyone who doesn´t like to actually understand game mechanics will copy these builds and needs those items. Make up your own build, 5ex is enough to gear up and clear lvl 78 maps and atziri.

Cyclone / Static Strike are the only real melee options actual (besides Flicker Strike and don't mention Lighting Strike, firing from half the map apart is not melee, Mjöllnir doesn't count too).
Tornado Shot >>>> Ice Shot - I played both, I barely progressed selffound with IS, I fucked everything in merci with TS selffound and I don't even need the mobs to be in a line like I needed with IS (not clustered mobs are lowering your IS damage to ~10% while you can just shift click with TS and kill everything with 60% crit chance), it was a joke.

PS: Sorc with ES was 1hit with manaburn mobs.

Glacial Cascade - Start Shadow, take frost and crit passives while running 300%+ ES Passive nodes.

Discharge - Marauder. Cap Endurance Charge passives, manual cast Enduring Cry with Spell Echo. Explode stuff, no burning damage needed... it just adds to the fun.

Ice Nova - Increased AoE talents, Frost Damage, 300%+ ES from passives. Run Ice Nova / Spell Echo / Cold Pen / Conc Effect / Life Leech


All easy to do, self-found. WoE are typically common off Piety/Dominus.

... You weren't building Viper Strike right if your single-target was that low. Let me guess, you only follow the tooltip DPS? Try Crit with daggers, focusing on physical, not Chaos damage passives. Crit Viper Strike DoT = a boss who is dead incredibly quickly.

So instead of Viper Strike I could also just use Static Strike / Cyclone and do 5x the Viper damage. It's all about crit dagger.

If you go non-pure self found, they sell for 1 fuse-1 chaos for most of 'em. Five links and Six links cost a bit more, but for cyclone, aren't needed.

My Marauder was farming Merc Dom with no deaths at 60, and doing yellow level 70 maps all because of Wings, so yes.

Hell everything but the super rare uniques are really cheap rise of the phoenix is only like 2-3 chaos, really there's no piece of gear that a build absolutely needs that's over that price. Also if you just want to play the best of any build of course you're not going to have options, of course skills like viper strike and poison arrow, are not going to have the same clear speed as a not DoT build. As for not making your own build, well if you learn a little bit about what's good and what's not you can easily get to level 70 maps before you have to buy anything at all other than build enablers.
