Story of a duper
" 7/8 of the things I listed exist in and are not in any way limited by HC challenge leagues (with botting being the only thing affected).
Spoiler
1. cheating - not limited by HC challenge leagues
2. desync - not limited by HC challenge leagues 3. enhanced grind/timesink (as a result of business/retention models adopted in online-only games with microtransactions) - not limited by HC challenge leagues 4. constraints on UI/progression/optimization - not limited by HC challenge leagues (inherent to an online-only game that does not permit alterations) 5. no modability - not limited by HC challenge leagues (as above) 6. PTW - not limited by HC challenege leagues (in fact PTW is enhanced, based on currency/item prices in HC). 7. expiry date - not limited by HC challenge leagues (if poe servers get shut down, HC servers will shut down too, and new HC challenge leagues will cease to be created). In fact, the incentive to use the multihack tools (maphack, reflect/affix alerts, strongbox/exile alerts, particle reducers, auto logout/pot/multipot scripts, greater zoom, etc) and dupe increases as difficulty increases (and after resets), as does the RMT reward (hence why all the major duping/exploit crafting occurred in the new leagues). Furthermore, I find online-only to be incompatible with HC gameplay. Desync, packet loss, lag, mandatory patching with potential windows of instagib bugs, character persistence in a running environment after crashes/failed loading, etc. - after an initial progression threshold (due to RNG), the possibility of death that doesn't occur as a direct result of poor performance by you ruins the HC experience. Additionally, HC (and wipes/resets) is generally antithetical to accomplishing what I want in a game with such a long time horizon for level/build/gear completion. Any game I play in HC/permanent death mode has to be stable, offline, and with a shorter time investment required to reach goals/satisfactory completion (dungeon crawl stone soup is a good example of what does HC well). Anyway, my original point is that without enforcing anti-cheat and by letting cheaters keep their items/progression (i.e. some of the ladder top 20 who were caught cheating got 1st place in many races - they didn't get demi's from top 20 but they still got demi's from all the 1st place races, as well as all the other rewards), there's basically no customer value justification for pushing a restricted online-only environment with a drawn-out/grindy progression paradigm. Never underestimate what the mod community can do for PoE if you sell an offline client. Last edited by Vhlad#6794 on Jan 20, 2015, 9:43:01 PM

" A perfect item is the only item in PoE > a good item if it isn't perfect its vendor this is how games work All of my gear is 100% junk and i should vendor it all i just can't because i don't have good items to replace them with. |

"that is simply not true. the perfect item from duper's story has all T1 stats and is only 1% off one stat from being perfect 6 T1 mods with perfect rolls. such item is absolutely ridiculous. there are items that sell for 100s of exalts that arent perfect items, and yet they should be vendored by your logic. that doesnt make any sense. |

" Just let it go, it won't do you any good. Devs can't foresee/test all possible combinations of things, sometimes something gets through. I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.

I'm completely disappointed. How do we know that they are no other people who use other illegal methods to get wealth and control the market ? This game is balanced around economy and once again I see that is a mistake.
After all, the guy was cheating for very long time and the idea that he might be cheating came from community not from GGG, and took weeks to ban that guy. Means that they don't have tools/procceses to search through database for signs of cheating on daily or at least weekly basis :/. I feel that play fair in this game just doesn't pay off... |

Why is everyone surprised people are cheating.
Every game ever is subjected to people cheating. |

If anyone is curious what the odds are to roll that dagger, it is at least:
1/91 * 1/(91-7) * 1/(91-7-7) * 1/102 * 1/(102-8) * 1/(102-8-6) = 496617593472 That is about 1 in 50 billion. This does not account for the weighting of different rolls within an affix group (Tyrannical is rarer than Wicked for example). Also it does not account for the variable numeric values in an affix (Tyrannical can roll 20 different numerical values). So, we can easily multiply 50 billion with at least 1 billion giving us the chance of 1 in 50 billions billions. I'd say doing this within 2 weeks of a temporary league is outside of any person's luck. It should also be noted that the odds of rolling 6 Tier 1 mods is the same odds as rolling 6 of the lowest mods. |

" if your calculation is correct, doing this in 2 weeks even with duping seems outside of reach. He must have had some luck too though. |

" It also ignores the fact that you can steamroll the game with items that are far from being perfect, which was my point. IGN : @Morgoth
