I am sick of spending hours trying to trade for upgrades

What happened to playing games that you like and whose philosophy is to your liking.

What happened to making simple suggestions for quality of life fixes that would make the game more appealing to a wider audience? Especially a game in Beta where the devs *want* to hear what the players think about their product (so they can tweak and improve it).

People need to understand that having more costumers is not always good for a game, especially if it is developed and published by a rather small company. This wider audience some people think is the goal to reach in fact often brings way more problems than it is worth. It harms the game and the community and therefor should be avoided in some cases.
PoE is most definitively one of those games that should not try to reach a wider audience.
The underlying problem the OP made this thread about is not solvable with an AH, or any trade system for that matter. It's a pure supply/demand issue when it comes to trading, and an accessibility issue when it comes to non-trading.

Imagine for a moment the game had an AH. However, all the items being sold that the OP wanted, were being done so at prices he was unwilling to pay.

This thread remains the exact same, except now, it's about changing game mechanics to make the items more avaliable, rather than the lack of global accessibility to the economy's (limited) supply.

The solution(s) to the problem are easy:
1. stop wasting your own time and pay up
2. spend the time working towards what you need instead
3. readjust your valuation of items, especially when it's under current market price

This is always going to be an issue in small games like this. It seems like an AH/better trade platform is the solution, but it's not. That is not to say it won't help, because I think there's a legitimate argument it could, but not for the reason the OP is using. Time will always be an issue, no matter how accessible the supply is if there's an overwhelming demand.
AH is lazy and takes the human/social aspect away from trading. No thanks, there are plenty of cookie cutter games with AH, have at it..

Trade system works fine with uniques and runes in D2.

Runes when collected and used properly will make insane gear, uniques are strong and very dependable.

Wanna find a rune you want? it's easy check it's damn name on the forums, the keywords are there.

Want to find a good unique armor for your wizard? just scan any skin of the vipermagi/skullders/etc.

Wanna find an armor piece with

>+armor
>+% armor
>+hp
>trifecta resist

Or an amulet with

>hp
>mana
>cast speed
>resist

LOL no shortcuts here buddy, spend 50 hours on trade chat and forums finding one.

It will make it much more rewarding when you get it :)

I traded for a spell gem I needed the other day (my first trade). I just left the trade chat up while I did some questing until I saw it and sent my offer. I probably got ripped off but it felt great!

Spend 50 hours looking at millions of threads with "rares" on the name, perhaps that 1 in 1000000 stat combo might pop up, enjoy.

Want to find a good item in PoE?

Sit in game, not playing, staring at the trade window and occasionally spamming your WTB message until you get bored or run out of time. Or post a bid in the forums and hope sometime in the next month the seller will decide you win and contact you.

Neither are fun.

The devs should do what EverQuest did: institute a shop system. No auctions, this is the price, buy it if you want.

Those who want to sell choice items for auctions can still do so through trade chat or the forums. Those of us who don't have the time or interest to do so can buy upgrades via the shops.
pointless thread. Dev's are completely against AH along with most of the other ridiculous ideas blizzboys are filling our forums with. You want a game to play itself you have other options, stop filling our forums with this rubbish, it will never happen no matter how hard you cry.

What ever happened to playing the game?
No auction house!

I am not here to play a trading simulator. The point of the whole game is to adventure in dungeons, kill beasts and find better gear yourself.

The point of the whole game is to kill and loot. Not trade.

Go play management and trading games (Anno 2070 is pretty good) if you are interested in trading.

or you keep playing and every now and then you spend 1 second to press "enter,up,enter" to re-post you WTB message. Maybe you find a replacement first maybe someone is selling the amulet or ring you where looking for eventually.

GGG has already stated plenty of times that better trading tools are coming for the website but never an AH so stop these stupid post trying to turn a good game into a horrible one, it is already out there called Action House Tycoon: Diablo 3 edition.

I really, really hate the younger generation of this planet with their impatiens, demands and intellect levels bellow monkeys. I really glad there finally is a game that does not cater to you at all.
