Naming and shaming in game....
" All he is arguing is that GGG has decided this is the way it should be, and what they have decided should be applied consistently throughout the entire game. Not just hand picked forum posts whenever they feel like it. "just for try, for see and for know"

Im not defending them at all. What im really trying to ask is why is it okay for people to name and shame leechers in game but we arent allowed to name and shame botters, RMTers, scammers, cheats, and rip off artists.
I think I would just like to see an equal distribution of punishments for breaking the ToS. Picking and choosing who to punish and who to not punish for the same offense sets a bad precedent. Either all naming and shaming in game is bannable and acted upon or we get to name and shame all the RMTers and other such players as well. |

" Ahh gotcha. Perhaps I mistook your point. I wholeheartedly agree with this. Moderation in-game and on forums is quite inconsistent that's for sure. It may be that nobody is really reporting the name-and-shamers in-game. I'd venture to say that someone would receive a warning if reported enough, however. I wouldn't agree with a mute, especially a harsh mute. It is a hard thing to police..can't have people running around spreading lies but at the same time have shitlords and scammers running amok. " Well as far as i know GGG has access to all chat logs, it could be as simple as programming a chat warden to monitor chat and automatically send conversations containing what could be name and shame to the moderators to determine whether or not it was a false positive. I for one dont care about global 820 or master rotations, what i do care about is consistent moderation throughout the entirety of the game. " You can name and shame RMTers, botters, scammers, cheats, and rip off artists all you want in game, just like leechers, you can do it on reddit as well. Have fun, maybe you'll learn something. Noblesse oblige Last edited by Yidam_#0076 on Dec 8, 2014, 8:12:01 PM

where did it say that leeching is forbidden except in the weird minds of some players who see themselves as the police of the interwebs? comparing leechers to scammers says it all already. good luck on your mission, comm_il_vec.
naming and shaming should apply in the game as well as in the forum equally. offline

Naming and shaming isn't allowed in game or on the forums. Please report these comments so our moderators can follow them up.

I believe there is one major difference between the forums and a global chat. One is persistent and can be referenced later and the other is fleeting and only seen by those looking at the screen at the time of the statement. A minor nuance, I agree -- but an important one.
Imagine if you truly got your way on never naming and shaming ever. Imagine the impact to guilds. Guild members could not call each other out, ever. Guild leaders could not discuss potential guild members because any reference to those being discussed would possibly fall under naming and shaming. Assholes would run rampant (more so than now) because our natural defenses to them as a community would be completely removed. I do believe the persistence of the forum does create an issue in this area because 1) it's easy to spam and 2) it never goes away once it is here. (Let alone the lying and frame jobs that would occur) Just my 2cc. Just out of curiosity, who cares? Are you angry because it's harder to be an asshole in 820 or because you want to 24/7 snitch on the forums? To be clear, there is no absolute right or wrong answer because of the subjectivity of it. Assholes want anonymity and the other assholes want to run around telling on the assholes doing things they dont like :) Thanks for all the fish!

The entire Policy against naming and shaming is utterly flawed.
We are a community of gamers and we have deep values of protecting game play. Groups and clicks form together and their is a very strong social dynamic that is always at work. What happens to the community then when we don't have the ability to call people out on their poor behavior? Wait your going to tell me we should report people instead of Name and Shame them? Reporting does not do anything when its for RMT, Botting, or Scamming. Reporting works if someones "Feelings" were hurt and thats it. As long as you don't communicate to other the public, you can get away with everything. If someone attempts to call another out on poor behavior, the one who gets punished isnt the one breaking the game... but the person trying to save the game. This is so counter productive its utterly sickening. If reporting actually DID something you wouldn't have people WANTING to name and shame. Hell this is just like the US sentencing people to jail for being whistle blowers. GGG, are you like the US? Going to punish the whistle blowers? If you dont want to be seen like that then make sure you step up your game when people are reporting RMT, Botting or scamming. Otherwise go away and stop restricting the community from trying to DO YOUR JOBS! IGN JimansNotSummoner

I for one dont care either way. The rules just need to be applied consistently throughout the entire game. I have never joined 820 and this thread doesnt only pertain to 820. It pertains to every social aspect of the game. Naming and shaming in game still allows for the same frame jobs and slandering as the forums.
And thanks for a reply Samantha. I still have some questions though. 1. Those who use global 820 for sharing would obviously never report one of their own for naming and shaming because it benefits them to be able to do so while those who dont have any interest in 820 but dont agree with naming and shaming are unlikely to be in there to report it to begin with. Are players expected to perform a certain level of community service within the game in order for those breaking the ToS receive the correct punishment? 2. Isnt there somebody watching chat logs and other such things for moderation purposs? |
