Sallazzang, Labyrinth Map Boss

ya I thought it was part chaos, but Ive run it enough with my ci char now to know that Im still taking a butload of damage from it.

I dont think this boss is quite the joke some people claim, that bitch hits like a truck, but its mainly evasion based characters who are going to get raped by that machinegun ek. Sure, Ive got chars who just faceroll it np, but Ive been in there with evasion characters and theres been some terrifying offscreen damage coming my way at points.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Ek is a spell. Evasion doesn't do crap. Unless this Ek is an attack for some reason.

Im not certain as all my ev chars usually have phase acro but my gut instinct says its still a spell, cause they all have ondars with sickening levels of ev too and it never seems to fail to land many hits with every barrage.

Never had any trouble with this boss w/ my dual claw shadow.

He dies in 2-3 seconds usually.

Didn't have any problem with him on my RF mara that I ran pre 1.2.

I've never ran that map with an evasion based char, mind you, but if he does cast EK it could be as bad as you say.

However, a physical crit build with Hatred should have no problems.

Its EK thing is a spell, you can have 50k evasion and Ondar's Guile you'll eat every bite of damage he's dealing to you if you don't have any physical mitigation on the side (granite flask, arctic armor, Lightning Coil,...).

It's not fun for casters. As others have said, clear the devourer corpses (a CoDT Devouring Totem helps here, for example) and he can't do his EK. Shattering them is fine if you're a cold-based build, or DD works if you're fast to use it.
Also if you can keep him in one place he does eventually seem to run out of devourers - they spawn for a while but eventually stop, and then he's trivial.

ok so the Devourers actually re-spawn? didn't know that.
also, does he become "enraged" permanently when eating a corpse, or is it a temporary effect I can wait out then close-in and destroy him, without fear of a barrage of one-shot EK obliterating my evasion character?

The devourers keep spawning for a long while, as long as he's in a fresh area of the map. First time I met him I was in a party doing this while it was a new map, and we had no idea what we faced: other three died, pretty fast. I was using a high-armour templar with good regen and a wonderful mace (only 1-h weapon I've ever found over 300 dps...), so I could withstand him enough to hide and pot; and also had two CoDT setups with a devouring totem on the low one. After some minutes I had the boss back in a corner I'd already fought him in, and eventually no more devourers spawned there (must have been 40-50 holes though) - he died in a few seconds.

He only seems to get a few volleys of EK per corpse - it's hard to say if it's 1:1 since they spawn so fast, might be 2 per corpse though. The problem is if you kite, he follows - then he gets a fresh area of map and more devourers rise up. If you can tank his regular damage and survive the first flurry of devourers he's not too bad. Back him into a corner if you can - the knockback from Heavy Strike really helped.
