I set b/o for 90% of my items, and even when I accidentally set too low b/o, I sell it for that price, because I made a mistake, and would just waste someone's time.

If my items have no b/o, I try to look up at poe.xyz, trade chat and everything else, and I get a good deal with peps 50% of times, I think. In this case it is a little harder, because people tend to offer 1c for 10-20c items :S

Ofc, there are people who will try to buy my 20c bo/c, 3xT1 resist chest for 15c, but well. :S

What poe.xyz is missing (and honestly will never get it) is a rating system for sellers. If it had one, you'd know that people who traded with person X gets mostly positive rating, so you know you won't be wasting your time trading with them. Forum threads COULD work that way to some degree, but we have no "+" system here. :c

The worst bit about trading is having to hear about how much people dispise it on the forum all day. Just dont trade. Done. Wash you hands of it. Enjoy the game without it. Don't feel abliged. Don't measure your success against someone else's gear, wealth or progress. Don't try to compete with traders, instead, compete with your own previous characters and their progression. Try to better yourself and see what you can achieve without other peoples finds.

I like to think that GGG is doing a good job, developing Path of Exile. If trading is meant to be a huge part of the game, GGG is doing a shitty job. If trading isn't meant to be a huge part of the game, GGG is doing a fine job.

Here's how trading is like for me:

Buyer: Hi want to buy your xxx for your b/o xxx
Me: Hi, ok *invites to party*
Me: My ho
Together: Items in trade window and accepting trade
Me: Ty, hf
Buyer: Ty, bye

I dont even bother trading anymore. People are just flipping items. It is just as bad as the D3 AH at this point. Any item reasonably priced gets scooped up by the rich and relisted a few EX higher.

Some automated method for buying would be so good. Socializing with either idiots or scammers offers no benefit at all. An example from today (I'm the buyer, of course):
