New annoying trade practice (semi-scam)

Haven't had this happen to me yet but when people ask me "What was B/O again?" on their own items it made me realize it would be easy to. That said, I'd agree to it being a "semi-scam" and it is bad mannered as hell.

People can do what they want to try to get ahead, but I appreciate you warning people to pay more attention to their buyouts. I would never sell to someone who tried to trick me like that.

I ask for the b/o as seller all the time because i got a 1c tab 2c tab etc etc so in order to find the item in the right tab i need to know the b/o also its a confirmation of the price so there is no misunderstandings, works really well.

Just make trade tabs with the b/o price in there, so this can never go wrong and just /ignore ppl that are trying to scumbag and move on.

I play beyond and i got a ton of trade tabs and i dont really care if i sell less, i rather just /ignore scumbags and have less trades.
If everyone did this soonish these wannebe scammers could never buy any gear, and the community would be off better.

It doesn't matter that they're trying to make it look like their offer IS the buyout price. THAT is part of the barter game also.

lolwut?
Scamming is not "part of the barter game". You attempt to scam me and I'll ignore you and go out of my way to tell everyone I come across that you're shady. Is THAT part of the game too :)

I don't get what is difficult to understand here.

If the buyer is simply making an offer that is lower than the buyout, that's fine.

But if the buyer is intending to trick the seller into thinking that the buyout for that item is lower than it actually is, and purposely words their inquiry to make it look this way, it's a scam.

Correct.

Capitalism = I can get ahead, at your expense.

This is incorrect as in a free market with rational traders then a trade can only take place if both parties are either increasing their utility or indifferent (ie they both think the trade is a good deal).

Yes. This is part of the trade game as well. Enjoy! :)
Seems like 80% of the people in the first 4 pages completely missed the point of the thread :/. This has yet to happen to me, but then again most of my items are organized in a way that I know their price just by seeing where they and most of them are not that expensive anyway

Sucks that people would lie to you like that but w/e there are much worse scammers out there.

On the whole b/o thing though. Its a top limit for which you will insta sell the item. Offers below that (as long as they are actual offers as opposed to what OP described) are completely fine.

I like premium tabs,if they say b/o 5c and it's not in my 5c tab it doesn't get sold.

I have seen what the op is talking about, I find it hilarious.

I think it is a semi-scam when a seller's b/o is twice as much as what I personally think an item is worth.

i was contemplating making a thread announcing the annoying trade practice of sellers posting way more than they can keep track of, way above market value, and then labeling buyers as scammers for coming in with a market offer, probably worded like 'buyouts for this are 5c, 5c for your item'.

You really should. There's no difference.

There is a difference. If someone prices their item above market value then there is no need to even contact the seller. It is their item and they have the right to price it as they see fit.

How that can be compared to LYING to someone in hopes of getting a better deal is beyond me. You can try to twist it all you want, but it is BAD MANNERS.

Three people have done the same thing to me.

I always have my trusty Procurement open.

"Hey, can I buy your rampaging weapon of doom for the 1 chaos buyout?"

*tab to procurement and type in rampaging weapon of doom*

"Sorry but I have rampaging weapon of doom up for a 420 mirror buyout".
I used to put my characters down here.

The list became so long, and I've had to DELETE over 50 characters to make room for others, that I've stopped updating it.

#firstworldproblems give me character slots free or WAY cheaper GGG ;(

The only reason you can't understand the difference is because you are most likely one of the people who tries to scam.
