New annoying trade practice (semi-scam)
" if what is being offered is a reasonable offer, what is the problem lol. The seller wasn't low balled, and there is probably a good chance Somebody had that listed as the buy out price. I just dont see the jump from getting a decent offer to I was almost Scammed! That isnt to say the offerer was pleasant and fun to deal with, or even not trying to get over, but a fair offer is a fair offer in the long run imo. Hey...is this thing on? Haven't had this happen to me yet but when people ask me "What was B/O again?" on their own items it made me realize it would be easy to. That said, I'd agree to it being a "semi-scam" and it is bad mannered as hell.
People can do what they want to try to get ahead, but I appreciate you warning people to pay more attention to their buyouts. I would never sell to someone who tried to trick me like that. Team Won

Him: Wtb Cherrubims, my offer is 5c
Me: Its perfect, i don't sure about the price on those Him: But you have 7c b/o on it. Okay i'll buy for 7 then (sends party request) Me: Is checking my shop thread, no b/o on my Cherrubims, xyz says they go for 20c+ a piece. Added him to ignore list. 5 minutes later: Him (from another account): Wtb Cherrubims, my offer is 5c |

I don't get what is difficult to understand here.
If the buyer is simply making an offer that is lower than the buyout, that's fine. But if the buyer is intending to trick the seller into thinking that the buyout for that item is lower than it actually is, and purposely words their inquiry to make it look this way, it's a scam. Whether the seller should or should not know the prices of their own items is irrelevant. Someone intending to deceive is automatically a scammer. And due to Path of Exile's insistence on letting basic core functionality be implemented by third parties, unless you have Procurement or your shop thread open at the time someone offers, it's unlikely that you will know for sure that someone's representation of the buyout is correct or not. |

Because sometimes I just want to, you know, play Path of Exile instead of Path of Mercantilism, and then when an offer comes in I have to scramble to open one of those to check what price I listed?
The point the OP is making is that you DO have to check those prices. You can't rely on your buyers being moral upstanding citizens who will, to the best of their knowledge, tell you what buyout you set. |

I think it is a semi-scam when a seller's b/o is twice as much as what I personally think an item is worth.

" i was contemplating making a thread announcing the annoying trade practice of sellers posting way more than they can keep track of, way above market value, and then labeling buyers as scammers for coming in with a market offer, probably worded like 'buyouts for this are 5c, 5c for your item'. Hey...is this thing on?
