Evasion and non-avoidable phys damage abilities

I have a base of 34 Int on my Ranger. I could pick up more, sure, but why would I? It is not a part of my build and provides no real benefit to me. They would be wasted points.

Did I complain? No. You said everyone has a movement skill: I pointed out that there is one (and only one) niche in the game that the devs have not provided one. I simply pointed out a very simple mechanical aspect of the game and you suddenly got defensive, as if I were attacking you or something.

I do not see much issue behind the Bow-Ranger having a specific movement skill, however. It is hardly unusual these days for the archer classes to have one (Bow Thieves in Guild Wars 2 have two of their five skills for movement, as an example). The main use for it would probably be getting out of Strongbox mobs and escaping Bear Traps, because you can already kite almost anything in the game.

Oh, and both Mines are Dex/Int, not Dex, so I cannot use them ;)
dear lord GET SOME INT MAN!
I'm playing my first Armour char since CB, I can honestly say a well built evasion character is tankier in more situations. Remember that both defence types have their drawbacks. With Acrobatics and even just grace you shouldn't be getting hit too often and it works just as well versus heavy hitters. Armour characters get their shit pushed in by the big skellys and rhoa packs because they take every hit.

The only exception is that armour has no bane like evangelists are to evasion. Packs of heavy physical casters with a spell that is barely noticeable in the middle of a fight, what were they thinking.

I like the idea of scaling your offense while also scaling your defense, even though atm I would do considerably more damage with two decent swords and damage nodes instead of EV-nodes.

She is incredably stable during most circumstances. What kills her are:
a) Undying assholes (because phys spells, though im not sure how this fares after the patch)
b) High ele damage spells

b is the most dominant thing. because I do not also stack spell block ontop of the other defenses I am in serious danger when facing stuff like dominus second form beam attack or lightning storms from map piety etc...
The real issue behind it though is the lack of life in the part of the tree. I could grab more but loose so much damage that way...
Apart from that I find EV to be a very strong defense choice atm.

BTW: to people who say that you get spiked to death by physical attacks, I havent had this happen and I ran pretty high stuf with her. Got hit by map kole with the slam (not saying this is high but its a good example), did take about 30% life and you know that he wont hit you for a long time after that (Enfeebled, EV, Dodge, Block).

Evasion + dodge + phase acro + block + spell block + block flask.. it is crazy effective

I have a bow ranger with phase/acro, atziri boots (underestimated item), 60% eva from gear and grace and block flask with flask nodes. I havent died in weeks and i play crit bow. Oh.. Ondars.. this solves auto-reflect issues.

However.. im afraid of Vagan with resolute tech.
to OP:

You can't suggest or improve something in the game, starting with a forum thread!

The community always will say you, it's all fine, GGG want this, etc etc...

So, my suggestion is: don't use evasion, it's a bad mechanic since the open beta, and never it has been fixed.

If you play softcore, don't care, just make a funny build and play. : )

Except of all the defenses you listed, evasion is the absolute least and last on that list. 75% block+75% spell block? Congratulations, three quarters of the obnoxious one-shot mechanics just pass you by. Another 30-46% spell dodge? Yay, another approximately 1/3rd to 1/2 of that instakill nonsense just passed you by. Add in lightning coil for eva, and you're sitting even prettier. Add in surgeon's granite flasks of iron skin, even more so.

Furthermore, ever since the game became your accuracy vs. your evasion, well, your eva needs to be absolutely obscene to do much vs. reflect now if you have 90% chance to hit.

Sure, eva is fantastic against...devourers. That's like saying defense is fantastic against voidbearers. Yes, there will obviously be times that evasion shows it's worth something.

That doesn't change the fact that it's the only form of defense that leaves you liable to getting one-shotted.

Honestly, all of this could be solved by adding a keystone deep in the ranger area that would apply evasion to spells. I never understood why DF applied to both attacks and spells, but evasion doesn't.

He did speak of a bow ranger. He just mentioned all avoid-mechanics.

Thing is. Evasion is a lot better than Block and Dodge. If you have 75% Blockchance you can be hit 4 times in a row by big hits. This can't happen with evasion, since evasion isn't random as block-chance is.

Actually evasion is super-effective with those other stats.

Just assume 60% Evasion and you get this streak:

Hit - Miss - Miss - Hit - Miss - Hit - Miss - Hit - Miss - Miss

You now just layer block and dodge over it, since you don't have to block or dodge evaded attacks.

Block - Miss - Miss - Dodge - Miss - Block - Miss - Hit - Miss - Miss

Since Evasion is entropy-based layering other avoidance-mechanics over it means that you can fill in the sure hits enemies will land with other avoids.

Another thing to note is that even though Block got a huge buff with now not only chanceling puncture but also viper strike, block still means you are hit. This means if you rely on block and armor instead of evasion/dodge all on hit effects will be triggered. You will be punctured and get viper-strikes (though without any damage on them), you will get curses on hit, you will get stunned if the blocked hit would have dealt enough damage, you will get knocked back, you will get blinded etc. If you evade or dodge all effects that would be applied with a hit are gone.

Thats the reason why so many people play evasion/acrobatics now even in HC (exspecially the crit-puncture builds are fairly popular due to their high mobility).

The thing with Evasion is... it needs its weakness. If it wouldn't be for Physical Spells Evasion would be totally OP. It is better against attacks then armor and it is better against elemental/chaos spells then armor (well actually its Phase Acrobatics, but thats part of Evasion somehow).

And with this weakness I still feel it is better then Armor. It might be surpassed by the MoM/AA/Life combination, but since I played a ranger first with IR and afterwards with Evasion/Acrobatics Armor just doesn't feel worth it because it provides so little protection from the stuff that really severely hurts you.
Can't believe you just called evasion better than block and dodge. There's a reason why the latter are considered OP - they ignore monsters' accuracy and are item independent mechanics, as are mostly improved by nodes (ofc. there are few specific items to improve them further, but they are definitely not a must). That means they are cheap to build around, either.

Evasion, besides the zero damage reduction, has a severe drawback - the DR at high content, due to monsters accuracy. Evasion requires constant gear upgrades the further you go to keep it up and you can't succeed, believe me. Block and dodge don't have such drawback. Accuracy of the deadliest EVA enemies - packs of heavy hitters is too high lategame. Same for bosses. Also there are accurate mod mobs.

Have you ever played evasion char lategame ? I mean +74 content.

P.S.

And please all stop that "phys spells only" nonsense. Besides them, eva chars are raped by puncture, vulnerability, incr. accuracy and damage mods on mobs, and more.

@torturo:

Im running stuff 74+ with my ranger I posted eralier in this thread. Shes pure evasion and its absolutely no problem.

The stuff you listed as "rapes" evasion builds:
Puncture - why does it rape a eva build? because I have no armor to mitigate the initial hit and the bleed? Are you running around without a remove bleed flask? Because if you do youre crazy^^ No seriously you get hit so seldom that you have plenty of time to ged rid if the bleed. Also While having like 12 aps on my ranger and no armor I dont have a problem with corrupting blood... I think this is all more of a missconception.

Vulnerability - Dont get it. The stuff that hits you now hits you harder. Ok. But thats also true for armor users and while those get even lesser reduction due to beeing hit harder with vuln on the EV char stil gets hit the same amount as before. I tested it in a Zana map yesterday that had 60% increased attack speed for monsters. I stood between like ten mobs and was hit ONCE every TEN seconds. Even if those hits had taken 99% of my life pool it would not have mattered because 10 secs is plenty of time to regen, leech, pot, or get away.

Damage mobs - same as for vuln above, it actually poses a greater threat to amro users because they get hit constantly.

Inc. Acc. - Dont even recon those mobs. Tehy either are rare or die before they can do much. Might be a problem in some combinations but I havent had it. Also as someone mentioned: you layer dodge and block on top of EV and those arent affected by acc....

I dont think you have tried a serious EV build yet.
