Evasion and non-avoidable phys damage abilities
" It is actually dodgeble through Phase Acrobatics since the blast is the physical spell version of flameblast. Of course, 30% spell dodge is not going to do much to it. However, ever since I changed my boots to I been able to spell dodge those physical blasts from the undying Evanglists more often, for I got 46% spell dodge instead of 30% spell dodge. It really does become noticeable at higher %. They are still dangerous along with the EK throwers, if you are not careful, and have low HP pool (<3000 HP). " Immunity to ranged attacks is a minor bonus, to be honest. I only took that keystone at lvl 82, and yes it makes my life a lot easier. But it was never a huge problem before. Yes, I have died once to Baal's constructs ranged attack. They all shot me at once, stunned me and finished before I could recover. It only happened once, and, to think of it, an armor-based characted would've just shrugged these projectiles off. Otherwise I dont remember having any problems with projectiles as an evasion-based character. So no, immunity to projectiles is not a big deal at all. Its a nice quality of life improvement which covers a gap in surviveability which armor-based characters do not have. Being protected against critical hits is better, but again - when you are hit, you are hit HARD, crit or not. It's physical-damage spells and unblockable attacks that pose a problem. Because that's where evasion offers ZERO protection - as opposed to armor and ES, which still work against these. |

" Those are considered spells anyways so evasion/ondar's won't help. |

I think Evasion with Onder's Guile is worthwhile for melee fighters, protecting you from ranged attackers until you can take them out. The killer pitfall with Evasion though is when you do get hit with spike damage, you're most likely stunned as well. That can give your attackers enough time to hit you again, which then uses up your Evasion entropy and sets you up to take another hit before you can take action.
Since you can't take Unwavering Stance with Evasion, I came up with another way to avoid stun: Heart of Oak + Ghost Reaver. You don't need a lot of ES, you just need to keep it active to have an 80% total chance not to get stunned. Combine this with 30% Dodge and 40-50% block and your odds of getting hit while stunned are very slim. Add in a movement skill like Whirling Blades or Cyclone for quick retreats, and you'll be pretty safe from all but one-hit kills. |

One of the problems that I can see with evasion, especially when combined with dodge, is that it is much less reliable than other systems. An evasion character at half health and an armor character at half health have a physical attack coming at them. The attack is such that, with no defenses, it would take away their remaining half health exactly. The evasion character has a 50% chance to dodge, while the armor character will reduce the damage by 50%. The armor character, therefore, is guaranteed to survive the hit, and is "safe", and able to use leech and natural regeneration at this point. The evasion character will take, on average, the same amount of damage from such attacks, but, if the attack hits, it will kill the player. This character is not safe, and should probably use a potion, thus losing any health that could be gained from regeneration or leech.
To make this problem worse, armor characters, being strength based, tend to have the most health to begin with, and access to leeching and lifegain to make use of it. Evasion characters do not have anything like that to synergize with their evasion to anywhere near the same extent, hence why evasion is a bit underpowered at the moment. I'm not sure what such a mechanic would be, though I'm sure I could think of something. But right now I just wanted to give my thoughts on the matter. |

Why every now so often there is a dodge/evasion vs Armour thread and randomly everyone would say how terrible evasion is or how amazing it is and how bad Armour is.
If evasion isn't enough to keep you alive stack more stuff on you like lighting coil or MoM, use a free granite flask ect. A single defenses should be good verses everything all of the time., Armour have the same crippling weaknesses evasion does which people dislike too. If anything physical damage should be redesigned in this game period. Last edited by RagnarokChu#4426 on Sep 11, 2014, 4:56:41 PM

Every once in a while this thread comes along, nice and polite contributors to these forums kindly remind the OP of all the options available to deal with "unavoidable" phys damage. I used to contribute in the like, now Im just gonna say; nah m8 trust me evasion>armor.

Just be glad you have acrobatics and ondars guile.
Armor gets no bonus for mitigating spell damage and projectiles from keystones like that. You also get nodes that decrease the chance to be frozen, shocked, and stunned. Armor has help in the stun area but when it comes to ice, they f'd. When facing ice arrows with armor, every one hits with ice damage, while mr Evasion gets hit rarely as it is and even less with Ondars. There is a lot of life on the dext side fo the tree now. They get a few 10% nodes and the marauder gets 5%. Yeah, there are more nodes for life on teh marauder side of the tree but it takes a lot more just to get the same amount at the end of the build as the Dext users have to get to come up with the 100% increase of life. The only exception is the shadow who may have a harder time getting life, but they have ES and ghost reaver. |

" I have bad luck getting Midnight to drop, so I have no access to Atziri as a solo player. No access, no fight, no goodies for me. That makes me a sad person. I check that index site, and I see an overabundance, so the price demand is very low. The temptation grows, and I buy them, so I do not stress out. ;) Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

" Lightning warp+reduced duration dont require more than 58 int ;) And you should have more than that for your support gems anyway, unless you dont use any int gem at all, wich i find hard to believe. |
