For new players Vagan is nearly undoable in my opinion!

I´m surely not a newbie and know what to do, but the time limit quest is just inbalanced as ***

At lvl 54 with 6K dps Heavy Strike --> No chance within the time limit
At lvl 52 with 4k Freeze Pulse --> No chance within the time limit

tried every trick I had to give...Freeze Mines, Traps, curses and and and - no difference

He just drinks his pots at ~20% life or something and Quest failed...
Had that scenario 4 or 5 times.

Hope for a fix in the nearest future!

Just my two cents....
he is not designed to be beatean with every guy every lvl walkin nearby, its challenge ffs, "hope for fix" zomg, improve ur dmg instead - best fix

very useful answer....improve your damage...really? I thought I had to lower it

Some Masters like Catarina or Tora are so much easier and doable for every player on every level, but not Vagan! Some of the Top 10 players just pass him because he is too hard, I don´t think that this is what GGG wants.
I will fight him every time I see him but if it´s only possible to level him if I have 6-Link + 400 dps weapon to one hit him....okaaaaaay
I'm a bow user. At first Vagan kicked my ass in Lunaris lvl 3, then I ment him again and used Puncture with Crit Dmg... Yeah, 1 crit did like 70% of his hp xD

Now he's easy and I like duelling him :D
Unarmed for life! (although I do like maces too recently)
he has leech and pots

i just go perpetus mode on him (bear trap, whirling blades)
I need more purple titles
Once you get to level 65+, I could see him being hard to kill and you would need to have high dps, but while levelling, this is ridiculously balanced. I've encountered him 4 times so far up to level 49, every time I had to kill him within the time limit, and I would get him to 20% and he would heal back to 75%. Considering that I destroy packs and even Exiles only take a few seconds, my dps should be more than enough to kill him but I can't. I'll most likely finish Merciless with him still level 1 at this rate.

He has other missions, too. For example killing more enemies than him.
There are builds out there that can't 1vs1 but are godly in killing multiple enemies, this mission is probably directed at them.

The problem is that Vagan is horribly balanced.

The target dummies are absolute whimps. Easy to one-two shot by most abilities. Non-timelimit Vagan is a joke, sure he'll heal, but he's still easy to bring down.

Time Limit Vagan, meanwhile, has freakish DPS requirements that even my highly specalized single target (with uniques!) builds couldn't reach. No new player has a candle's chance in hell at accomplishing it, which is the same problem loremaster's quests have.

Otherwise, the mastesr are all perfectly doable by a leveling character. Loremaster and time limit Vagan are the only exceptions, and they seem more to be a consequence of a failure to properly scale then anything else.
From my experience with this expansion, there is at least one master for every build who will be absolutely nightmarish to beat. Vagan happens to be the one who stomps anyone with group clearing power rather than single-target.

Roll a summoner. I have a zombie primary summoner and a raging spirit primary summoner and both absolutely destroy Vagan. You keep your distance from him, apply enfeeble and temporal chains, then buff minions with flesh/bone offering, and they'll take care of the rest. Vagan simply cannot withstand the constant stream of damage done to him by your minions.

Summoners also excel with about 5 other masters. Catarina is easy to manage since your minions can deal with the corrupted minions causing you problems, Haku is easy so long as you don't rush recklessly forward, Elreon is extremely easy with his relic missions (the defense being easiest), Zana should be easy for all builds, Tora is relatively easy with the exception of the corrupted plumed chimerai that gets stronger as it noms its dead allies.

However, the downside of being a summoner is that you'll suck badly at doing any mission from Vorici. Your minions aren't fully controllable and will almost always botch the mission. Spare the leader? Zombies will chew him up first. Make sure only 1 guard is still alive? Zombies/spectres are too hungry and thorough to let any one enemy survive. Kill only the leader and spare the guards? Yeah, good freaking luck with that!
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley

I had him dead with about 2 seconds to go...and then he ran away from my melee character. :(

oh god I had so much fun annihilating vagan at the "kill more enemies" quest.

I found that if I hold down the flicker strike button, my character kills the mobs the instant they spawn before vagan can even react

me 21 - 0 vagan
