Daggers.. #1 in dps... #1 in crit... #1 in passive tree... am I missing something?

How about taking away some support gems? Like:

Melee physical damage: "only works with swords, axes and maces".

With a pretty strong multiplier gone, daggers could possibly even keep their insane crit multiplier.

Then you could...
...go for insane crit -> Dagger, Claw
...go for RT or mediocre Crit -> Sword, Axe, Mace

3.5 build: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2299519
Another thing everyone is forgetting spell damage can only roll on daggers. Crown of Eyes .... You don't get that benefit either with mace, sword, or Axe.

Regardless. I'm not saying daggers need a big Nerf. More saying other weapons need a buff. Sword get a tiny buff to accuracy. What about a big buff+bleed. What about maces getting aoe. Axes are really crippled ATM. Only reason to use one is if you have a soultaker to dual wield with a higher damage axe(see gimmicky unique). Meanwhile I can use a self found dagger and do more DPs.

Imo 2 handers needs a 15%'ish (+/- 5%) buff to base damage and/or a +1 range buff. Another way to improve 2 handers is giving them a flat % chance to parry (12% maybe?) or counterattack when hit.

Just came back to POE, havent played in awhile... but I rarely saw ppl with 2 handers on cruel+ and most of them were probably ranged anyway (spectral throw).

(This on hardcore ofcourse, dps vs survival balance is irellevant on softcore)

This is a great idea. I think 2h weapons should have parry and more range. I love playing 2h, but its squishy without OP gears.

Some stuff that could be helpful on 2h passive nodes...

Adding crippling or armor breaking mechanics.

Something like enrage, after getting hit, your damage and attack speed increase. Maybe build stacks?

On low life, you gain more resistance and damage reduction.

We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own.
Weapons all have base crit stats, daggers have the best crit nodes and base crit.

Why not give all weapons additional base stun (maces would be highest), base bleeding (swords), and something for staffs, crushing blow?. Then those base numbers would be amplified by the passive nodes. Maces would be the best stun lock weapon, swords the best damage over time, claws leach, daggers big crits, staves not sure, never used them.

They could make bleeding a de-buff as well as damage over time. Bleeding enemies do 20% less damage, could even have stacks. Then all weapon types would have a play style that favored them. Swords would have some safety, maces too with the stun. Claws lots of leech. Daggers would deal big damage but nothing for mitigation.

I dont really think theres a problem. How many top streams are playing dagger right now? How many people at the top of the hardcore ladder are using daggers? Is chad winning rampage with a spec throw ambusher?

I dunno, I just feel like people look at paper dps and say "omg omg omg" but really its meaningless. People are getting silly deeps with claws too if you look at the class forums. Dps is meaningless after a certain point, and a lot of weapons and skills can get over that point. I think you guys are getting too caught up looking at paper figures in thread titles where as GGG are looking at whats going on in the game and not seeing what the big deal is. If theyre the best thing in the game by such a long shot why is such a small % of the player base using them? I have decent high crit daggers on ambush, no ones buying them, sold quite a few decent bows and what not though. HvR has more paper dps right now with his shockwave totems than I have on my dragon hunger builds.

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

What point is it that DPs is meaningless after? I'm really interested in this... Because it doesn't exist. We also aren't just talking about "paper" DPs. I'm talking clear speed, atziri capability, and uber capability. I don't care what "paper" DPs my player has.

This thread isn't about daggers being over powered it's about daggers actually bring the only viable melee build out there. Maybe if all other melee weapons were balanced not everyone would be playing a caster, bow, wand, or dagger build. Maybe just maybe a 2h Axe or 1h mace build might be just as viable as all the rest.

And there's fadox being as useful as he ever is....

I've said it before. Daggers are overpowered because we do not have katanas. We need KATANAS.

I wonder if it will happen though.
The chance to Vaal +1% maximum resists on an amulet is less than 1/300.

Path of Daggers

Low-life ST dagger is still #1 DPS in-game. Still one of the only builds that can safely handle Uber Atziri. Surprise surprise :)

It's not the daggers that make that possible. Give them a rapier same results just slower. It's OP shavs which allow LL and crazy auras and OP acuity for instant leach.

But yeah Daggers are way OP compare to other weapon.
