It's good that a game punishes you for dying. Back a few years ago, that was an incentive for the player to try and play better to beat the game. Now people are so lazy they just whine and want their hand held through the whole game including high difficulties. lol.
The real argument in the OP is about desync and rubberbanding. Yes, that's a big problem, and I hope GGG is doing their goddamn best to fix it.

In effect they made a game they want to play themselves so i guess they dont care about making money on a good game model they made by adjusting some stuff.
It will in that case end up being a little bit bigger operation then a LAN party.

People asking for evidence for common sense claims? I think it's quite convenient to ask for proof for one's claims on an online forum. Those people will respond (financially) best to the game. (Please don't make a joke out of yourself any further by asking for evidence for this statement too)
I am not going to sink to the level of people throwing around "bullshit" this and "bullshit" that and asking for evidence when they themselves offer nothing except inflammatory statements and opinions stated as facts declaring why it should be their way and not the developers'. I am not going to pretend to speak for GGG, but I think I have a better command of their positions than yo do, and I can challenge you to seek out their views on this and other issues for yourself if you're not willing to listen to me. Have you seen the common suggestions sticky in the suggestions forum? That's my thread, man. I am not clueless around here.
I am not going to say that casual gamers are unimportant to this game, because I too play casually, but I will say this:
This game is not designed for those who want an easy mode.

In this interview, Chris Wilson, the lead developer and a founder of GGG, says that he would rather produce a niche hardcore title than cater to the lowest common denominator.
From the game overview here on the website:
"
Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. We're a small independent team of hardcore gamers based in New Zealand and have created Path of Exile as the game that we'd want to play ourselves.
Summary:
Whether or not YOU agree with GGG's business model is irrelevant. They are confident that they are making a game that someone is going to pay for and play, and if you're not their target audience, that's your call. I'm sure they would certainly love to have you enjoy their game as much as I do, but we're all different. Some of us are hardcore, some of us are truly casual, and some of us, like me, are hardcore in their mindset but casual in their time available to play. Everyone is free to play the game, literally free. You are not entitled to anything from the devs, even if you buy a 70 dollar pet.
Hear hear!

I guess this really isn't an issue for me as I never play softcore in these type of games, but there has to be some sort of penalty for dying in softcore. If there's no penalty, softcore would consist of nothing but glass cannon builds.
Whats the problem if there would be glass cannon builds?
Look at HC, everyone is running the savest/OP build they can find. Builds in HC are really boring compared to SC builds.
Im fine with a death penalty but right now its much to high for lvl 70+ characters.
You can easily lose all progress from hours of play in a single mistake or just a bug (to remember you guys this game is still in beta and 70% of my HC deaths are from desync or client related problems), dont expect every player to be a masochist and keep playing after they lost hours of play.
The penalty also discourage people from trying hard content, why should they try a hard boss when they lose all exp they gathered so far. They will just outlevel/outgear the content until they can kill it without any danger.
Another problem on SC is that they will just lvl up so they dont have anything to lose and will just Zerg the hard content and dont care about the death penalty.

Neither will dismissing a post with a straw man fallacy, attempting to demean an otherwise cogent piece of discourse. My attempt was not to grandstand or get applause, just to explain my position the best I could.
I have nothing else to add at the moment.

You are grandstanding, you are acting as if you know more than other people and you are arguing as if you are doing it from GGG's position, I suggest you read what it means here http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-grandstanding.htm
The rest of your posts are rhetorical fluffle, there is nothing else to add

I think the problem is that later on you pretty much only die from silly one shot mechanics or lag/desynch problems and therefor the death penalty just feels extremely annoying.

You just posted bunch of bullshit as you said it yourself. The only thing you achieved is to further derail the discussion from the OP. Entitlement to or business model were not discussed here at large. Get a grip before you post.
PS. I have kept the quote intact just to show how much of the bullshit was posted

Its the WoW effect, everyone feels entitled to access the later content even if they have put in far less effort than the other people they see reaching it, one of many reason I never bothered with that game.
There is nothing wrong with casual players, every game needs them, but its the casuals who want to be on par with more serious players while putting in less effort that piss a lot of people off.
GGG have done a great job having hardcore for players who really want a challenge and softore for a more casual experience that will still be a test in later difficulties and actually not be a trivialised game where you can do whatever and still progress.
