Why Atziri's Acuity is actually balanced! (For those who don't know game balancing)
Many of you seem to wrongly be under the impression that those gloves were not balanced, when they in fact were.
Whenever you design a game and there is a lack of resources (money and time), you need to make choices in regards to balancing. You need to ask yourself: "What is the main focus of our game?" and "How much resources can we spend on balancing?". It makes sense to at least try to keep the main focus of your game balanced. Ultimately, this means that every game, yes even League of Legends, end up with parts with of the game that they attempted to balance, parts that are not balanced, and parts that are utterly unbalanced. In League of Legends the answer to the first question is: E-sports and thus that's where they focus their balancing as well. In Diablo 3: permanent leagues, so that's where they focus their balancing. In PoE: Challenge Leagues (temporary 3-4 month leagues), so obviously that's where they will focus their balancing. -------------------------- "Balancing by scarcity" Balancing by scarcity is an interesting balancing paradigm that states that it is okay to introduce something that is extremely powerful as long as it is super-rare. This is the method by which Atziri'z Acuity is now being balanced. This approach is good in games where there is a severely limited timespan, such as Challenge Leagues in PoE. This approach is bad in games where, for all purposes, it behaves as if it was never-ending in time: Diablo 3 is a good example of this. ------------------------------- So I can just applaud GGG for choosing their focus wisely and sticking to their guns in balancing it appropriately :). I think it was the least terrible option.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

I actually consider it a smart decision.
Uber atziri was not going to be run much at all in temporary leagues since the gloves dropped every 3rd run. The whole aspect of atziri would have been irrelevant to the game. Now there is big incentive to run many Atziris and with the gloves this rare you can expect only a handful of people to get the gloves in temporary leagues. With only that many people getting the gloves in these challenge leagues, it's pretty irrelevant to balance as a whole. Last edited by kasub#2910 on Aug 19, 2014, 11:13:42 AM

Vaal Pact gives you only a measly 40% while OP gloves give you not only around 9 more points to spend but also 100% life AND mana leech.
Also dont forget about the fact that people have bulked up like 40-60 pairs of gloves and these are already the richest people in the game. When the patch hits these people will get thousends of exalts. They need to do something about the gloves.. on the hunt

" GGG doesn't balance for Trash League as stated in the OP even. I suggest you to first read the OP and then write things that nobody cares about. Ty. |
