How much? Offer

Hello fellow exiles.

That is all the pleasantry I have in me atm, on to this tiny rant thread...

I have played PoE off and on since closed beta and have enjoyed it very much.
That said, I admit I am partially ignorant on what the going rates are for items
and how much they are worth. Even though I only trade a small amount of the time,
I love having the option to trade with other players.

What sucks though is this is how my trade chat has been mostly since I have come back:

Me: How much for that ring bud?
Douche: Offer?
Me: 1ex
Douche: Too low, bye

Well if you have an arbitrary number in your head that you want, just tell me
WTF you want to sell it for, and I will either buy it or tell you all that I
can offer!!!! I can only imagine that this happens because the seller wants 3ex,
but is hoping someone will "offer" 5ex?!?! I don't know...

I lurk the forums, and I know I have seen this type of thread from well over a year
ago, so I know this is nothing new, but I just want to come here and "argggggg".

What do you buyers do when faced with the above scenario? Any tips? Just
stick to buyouts only? I ask, because I have never gone to a store, yard sale, anywhere
and had the seller tell me "offer", so I'm at a loss.

Best response is to incrementally increase your offer until they say they will accept. Or respond 'then how much do you want?'.

If you get ignored or whatever use another account. I personally have 6 accounts and it's really super easy to make more.

My response to this is as follows:

I don't play the offer game. Name your price.

Thing about jumping the gun just because the trader says "Offer?" is that some traders (myself included sometimes) deal with 4-5 trades at once, so I pretty much have to keep the replies short.

But then if the person starts to berate you and close off the deal after you give him an offer, then yeah I suggest an ignore button. Obviously that doesn't apply if you offer a 1 chaos buyout to an item listed costing 1 ex.
