Unique (and other) item drops are independent events.

*except for if a unique drops which grants IIQ or IIR stats to the user, which would, technically, affect future drops if you equip it. Which isn't what we're discussing at all, but I'm worried if I don't explicitly mention it, someone's going to jump on that specific case as a way to prove me wrong.

This should be obvious.

It would be rather nice to have such things stated explicitly somewhere to stop all the rabble. :D

Having better technical documentation on PoE would be nice. Having better item progression past level 50 would be better for all (except maybe the PoE masochists).

I still see no answer regarding mirror drops. I'm still not convinced that you were mistaken about gated drops, Arrowneous.

What difference would it make anyway? All this "gating" would do would be to spread the mirror drops out evenly. If the mirror drop rate was 1 out of every trillion currency drops, all gating would do is guarantee there weren't 2 drops in that first trillion and none for the second trillion. The odds would still the same. You'd just take away any chance of it having a streak.

having gated currency drops would be a huge disadvantage for summoners as i'm pretty sure it's the class which misses most orb drops as minions often kill monsters offscreen.

for me exalteds drop on a 5-7 week's basis, pretty regularily.

Huh? If summoners can't find their drops offscreen, what difference would it make if drops were gated or not?

my point is: if you're melee you see drops because they fall to your feet and you don't miss any drops.

if you're summoner and your minions kill offscreen you're likely to miss some high level orb drops. which would be bad if there is a counter which prevents more than 1 exalted drops on every 5-10 hours played.

ok, my posts sound like an allegation towards developers, but weren't meant this way. i'm sure such a counter doesn't exist but i wanted some dev to clarify that eventually. for the record.

If there were such a counter, it wouldn't be on each character. It'd be on the whole world at once. So if you got a mirror, nobody else would until it was time for another. So you not looking around at what your minions get to drop wouldn't be hurting just you, it'd be hurting the whole wide world.

And this is what I suspect the case with the mirror drops actually is.

high likely, yes. and ok in my opinion.

And again I ask the question, what difference would it make? It wouldn't decrease the number of mirrors dropping. It would just prevent 2 dropping in timeframe one and none dropping in timeframe 2. There would still be 2 mirrors dropping.

It doesn't really matter, and there's not much evidence to suggest it's anything but RNG-based anyway; that, and there's not a particularly good reason for GGG to go out of their way to make some complicated gating mechanism for mirrors, unless they like adding bugs to their game.
