Your League ideas

Tournament Attrition

Basic Attrition rules, but with something a little fun.
After the initial leveling period occurs, all players receive a partner.
From here, there are 2 options for the players

A) They may seek each other out and PK each other. If a player is PK'd by their partner, they are eliminated.
OR
B)After a set time, whoever has lower experience is eliminated.

If you eliminate your partner, you will have lost time going after them that you could have spent leveling, but...
If you were slowed down in your leveling, you could stay in the game.

After the set time has been reached, there will be a brief respite time before the next round starts.

EXAMPLE TIME!
*I've never played, so the levels are probably unreasonable*
4 hour 30 minute league, 4 players, 2 hour leveling period, 1 hour eliminations
0:00 Initial leveling period starts
2:00
Player A (Level 20) and Player B (Level 21) are partnered
Player C (Level 20) and Player D (Level 20) are partnered
2:37
Player A (Level 23) slays Player B (Level 25), Player B is removed from the league.
3:00
Player C (Level 26) loses to Player D (Level 27), Player C is removed from the league.
Respite time begins.
3:15
Respite time ends
Player A (Level 28) and Player D (Level 28) are partnered
3:27
Player D (Level 29) slays Player A (Level 28), Player A is removed from the league.

Player D wins the league.
I had two ideas off the bat. these are more designed for the "fun" part of the game rather than anything hardcore/competitive.

1. Start at max level. Cannot connect to others. Use for skill build testing.
*Have access to console "commands" to give items, or a debug chest. Either or.

2. Greater drops, money, xp. Like a easy mode with more modifiers. If I wanted to do the harder game difficulty but wanted mroe money/items to still be "fun", then something like this.

not really sure. i'm just still excited about this game and all.
"It's said war - war never changes. Men do, through the roads they walk. And this road - has reached its end." -Fallout New Vegas: Lonesome Road
how about a league where you encounter waves of creeps, and after for example 5 waves, champion wave comes then after 10 boss and so forth. This leaves option of leader open if wanted. Also, bosses would drop loot accordingly to their wave lvl, so wave 30 boss will drop better loot then lvl 20 and so forth. This would be your standard survival mode with some good boost in drops and xp. Keep it in mind i immagine this to be VERY TOUGH and that ppl will have to work hard with friends to go as far as they can(in case of more then 1 player drops from i.e. lvl 30 boss would be worse then if there is only 1 player). We are talking about 1 life here, so if you die its game over.
This is just a tought which i havent developed to fullest.
one similar to RF online where you get to compete unto whos fastest to reach a certain point and kill a boss
I am new around here but i like to participate, so here is something I have been thinking about that would be cool to see

player sanctioned ladder/leagues.

So people who are active in community can promote more sub-community activity.

Example -

Specho runs a blog- about video games- and PoE is one of the games he writes about.

Specho manages to get his hands on some pro gaming mice, keyboards, and maybe a headset or in-game vanity itemshes purchased through the micro-transaction system with funding from sponsorship's, and income from his blog.

Specho wants to give this stuff away to his PoE community since they are such a dedicated groups of gamers and deserve these kind of hand outs every now and then.

Specho has a few ways he can do it
---random draw from people who say thy play PoE but probably or maybe don't and are only there to collect some freebies.
---Can give it away to other figure heads to handle the handouts.
---Announce to the community through his blog, global chat, and partner blogs that they can join a Path of Exile League sponsored by (Specho) where these super uber awesome items are up for prize.

A player sanction ladder/league would have the rules set in place by the player, (HC/Default),(Duration), (Players Killed) ect. Since this type of data may or may not be tracked by GGG servers having the game its self actually check for rule violations and eliminate players from further progression in the ladder or league.

something like this can be used for more than giving stuff away.

Other motivations for player sanction league/ladders would be charity races where every one participating puts a dollar into the pool and the money goes to the charity of the winner.

Just to have some competitive fun with friends in a non-public environment.

The possibilities are vast.

I am sure there is allot involved in making something like this happen. But the upside to this could be that other gamers might be super jelly of the stuff that is going on in this community and since it will be F2P giving some power to the players to promote the game with community driven competition might be a descent investment of time.

I have not played the game but read a lot about it and watched normal game and cutthroat on streams. I love the ideas for different modes but as anyone I have my own thoughts.

So, on to my ideas:
___

1. Make a pvp mode (either cutthroat or something more organized, HC or not, all to be decided) where you first have time to prepare for it. First thing that came to my mind would be 1 hour of preparation for 1 hour of event. This would actually be similar to having a starting point but you can prepare yourself better. You can look for some gear, prepare your build.

2. More time for preparation would be more interesting. Higher level characters with more defined builds, maybe depending on items they find. Having a full day or full week of preparation would not work because there would be people playing all the time share account to play all the time or use bots. Others would not be able to do so, with possibly only be able to play at weekend or 1h/day. So my idea would be of having a week of preparation with limited time to play on your account. For example you get a maximum of 5 hours of gameplay through 6 days to have a cool event on Sunday. You can do it all on Monday or Saturday or a little bit every day.

___

AND after more thinking, my final idea of perfect long-term league I would like to see:

Limited time to play each week for ever. Those who don't have much time can play every day a bit. Those who want to play this game all their holiday vacation, they can play standard non-limited mode and hop in limited mode for an hour each day. Maximum levels and best gear on server available to everyone. The best character and PvP battles between best chars also. Right now (in pretty much every game like this) the best characters are those where people invest most time. If you work every day and go out on weekends, you may not have much time to play the game.
You may even allow people to play more time when they join league late, not just at beginning.

It may seem strange for a game like this but it would make a perfect game for me. I love what I see about this game and what's coming up but I can't see myself power gaming. I'd like to compete for highest levels, for best PvE or PvP characters but I probably won't be able. This takes away a bit from the game.
This probably won't be seen by any admins but...

I'd like a game mode similar to this map on Warcraft 3 called "Phase Killer". In this mode, around 12-15 players would take part. One player would get singled out and would get the ability to transform into a beast of some kind, turn invisible or something, and hunt down the other players. That player wins if all the others dies.

Every few minutes or just by PKing, the other players could vote and kill someone off. Their goal is to kill the killer. The more non-killers that live, the higher the non-killers score/reward/etc. I think this'd be an extremely fun mode.

Edit: If it wasn't clear, the killers job is not only to kill everyone else, but to not be found out for as long as possible.

How about a Lovecraftian/survival horror League ?

The idea is a blend of several league ideas to create a unique league with unique and dark horror type of challenges......

The league would have several key features as follows:

1. The league would work like a limited Ironman league, where tokens that allow one trade opportunity with merchants would drop randomly like other items, but without a token, you could not trade with merchants.

2. All monster mind or control effects would be 50% up to x 300 % more powerful (based on monster level and uniqueness) - thus stun and fear effects would simulate the need to "fight the horror" of the supernatural nature of the enemies that players encounter.

3. All supernatural or "Lovecraftian" type monsters do from 25% to 75% more damage (based on monster level or uniqueness).

4 High level deaths in "special" elite dungeons/realms/worlds result in permanent death if character is not revived by a party member.

5. Player deaths (anywhere in this league) would incapacitate a character until revived by another party member or player. Dead bodies can be looted, but this will result in the permanent demise of the character ( As a player controled character ) -Permanent death is a BAD thing for most other player characters for the following reason:

6(.66) - Player who are permanently dead "return" with all stats and (copies) of all items they had prior to death (with the addition of 25 % more HP and a "fear" aura which reduces Player attack accuracy by 25 %). Thus a former "Player" is now an undead enemy of all living players; however, the A.I. of such "returned" enemies is such that they will seek players to attack in with the following order/priority: 1) The player who looted their body, rather than reviving them. 2) Prior members of the permanently dead player's party. 3) Players from the "friends" list of the deaceased player. 4) Any other local player not listed above. - Permanently "deceased" players will actively seek/follow online players from 1 or 2 above and ignore other targets when possible.

7. When permanently dead players return to seek revenge on their looters or former allies, they drop no items on death. They also grant no Experience points. Once killed by other players, this undead "returned" PC is erased from the game.

Hows that for a Lovecraftian/survival horroe league idea ?

Any suggestions ?

I can go more into depth later, but…
Tower Defense League-
Two Teams of X
One team is towers, the other is creeps
Each person starts with a basic character which can be upgraded, as loot drops. Each round, the creeps receive a buff, making them more powerful.
Actual setup, I’m unsure of, but would probably involve movement penalties, encouraging the “Tower” part.

Either swap at some point, or play until x amount reach the end.

Survivor.
X people
Mobs spawn in waves, with rest periods to gear up, etc.
Last one standing, wins.

I've recently decided to take a look around the forums and found this awesome thread. So, here's my idea.

Utilitarian League (i.e. Realistic League):

- Players can only use flasks while out of combat, and using flasks essesntially silences and disarms you or reduces your combat effectiveness for the time it takes to refresh yourself (hard to gulp and do much else)
- Getting to low life will cripple you (wounds bleed, broken bones make you ineffective at fighting, head wounds reduce your accuracy and spell power), requiring you to go back to town and heal up at the vendors, which would take a bit of time as well
- Being in a party boosts everything by a small percentage, the more the better (having a companion in Wraeclast is good for your sanity after all)
- As with your own body, your armor and weapons don't like being overused either; therefore, it's probably better to use a stock weapon and let it deterioate and save the uniques and rares for challenging enemies; also, it's not just a silly repair cost, your weapons/armor WILL eventually break or become so worn as to be unusable
- Your characters need food and rest, or you might find yourself being unable to kill even a brainless zombie
- etc (the ideas could be endless)

The main reason this popped up into my head is that Path of Exile seems like the perfect game for a league like this due to its atmosphere. Also, thinking along these lines will only make the storyline for this game more awesome.
