In one MMORPG I've seen a concept called remorting - when you reach maximum level, you can choose to sacrifice all your equipment and levels and start from the beginning with significant bonuses to your stats. The catch is that your xp gain rate is halved for your second play through. You could remort multiple times as long as you can handles the compounded halving of xp gain.

In PoE you can allow people to remort once you beat the game on Merciless and got to level 60 or so. Once remorted you are given 5-10 extra skill points, 50 health and 50 mana. Keep in mind that the idea of remorting is created to give advantage to people in PvP so adjust above bonuses to what you feel a sufficient advantage would be.

Ladder rankings for this league would be based on number of remorts players have first and experience after that.

Remort hardcore PvP would be the ultimate test of skill.


I saw a likely system applied on private servers of the game MU Online.

The level caps were 350-400-450,experience rate was multiplied by 100,500 and 1k.When you reach max level,you reset your character and keep your items,spells and stat points(they become free).The ladder rankings are based on max lvl and the ingame fun is based on trading/crafting and going after high level unique items.

The server that I played had a different realm only for trading btw :)

So even after reading up, I am still not sure what a league is :( Also, can people change leagues once they are in one of them ?
Think of them as separate servers. Some servers will have time limits, then drop the servers into a base server.
Similar to diablo 2s Ladder season, that ended and dropped characters into non ladder, Leagues effect the gameplay depending on the type league it is(Intended on making the game harder, not easier). Then when they end, they fuel a parent and a new one likely will start.
Players can also pay to make a certain league of their choosing from the looks of it lasting however long.

Treasure Hunt - (great for easter !)

Collect as many skill gems as possible and deposit them into a box in town to gain points (higher level skill gems grant more points). Killing other players causes one of their gems to fall from their inventory or an item.

This can be set up over just a few hours for some competitive play that revolves around minimizing the amount of skills needed to succeed vs getting points and encourages trading with other players and or killing them off.

You could have both a PVP and NON-PVP version of this league as deemed necessary.

Assigned item league.
A league akin to the regular game, but everybody who isn't cool with FFA items can go here instead. If chosen to be a parent, though, I wouldn't make a parent out of a mirrored Hardcore system.
How about Medium Core?
this might have been brought up, but rather then a ton of instanced individual zones, could there maybe be a public option you can turn on (similiar to auto grouping in other mmos).

You would enable this mode and then upon zoning into a particular area, you would be placed into the instance with others of similiar level. There would have to be a player cap per instance obviously (maybe 6-8 people)

This would be a great way to encourage player interaction as well as stimulate a growing player base that's familiar with multiple classes interactions.
This would be a variation of PVP enabled hardcore league.

Players would be dropped off in the starting zone and have 30 minutes of invulnerability to PVP damage. After the 30 minutes were up PVP would be enabled and players could engage in PVP.

If you beat someone, that person becomes your vassal and you would be their liege. You could join up into a group or the two of you could separate and go fight separate fights to each add additional victims to your newly formed clan. Every time someone kills someone else the person revives to join the new team that recently killed him or her.

Once a person has died a predetermined number of times such as five times total they are eliminated completely. When you die you re-spawn with either a slight stat penalty or a trip back to the town and a brief run back to join your new group. I am unsure which would make the game funner, but in a three vs three combat two evenly matched teams become four vs two once the first person dies so some mechanic is necessary to prevent the newly created fourth team mate from completely deciding the conflict.

Once players in a group reached max group size (I am unsure of max group size, but I believe it is 8), they would have a few minutes warning to separate into two or more groups and enter separate zones. Otherwise they would be both eliminated. This would be done to prevent epic 24 people vs 24 people fights which sound great in theory, but in reality would probably by laggy and be more luck based than strategy.

I am not saying that large scale combat couldn't be done strategically, just that it would be unlikely to occur with random pickup groups created without coordinating predetermnined teams. With less skill and more luck involved the increased lag and decreased performance make it undesirable as a type of encounter. However, perhaps some bigger collection of groups per zone would be preferable than only one group per zone would work better. I feel at some point too many groups fighting side by side becomes simple zerg warfare and not fun tactical squad vs squad mechanics.

The whole purpose of this league would be to foster temporary ever shifting alliances that are made up of randomly created groups rather than predetermined teams. PVE goals could be incorporated into the PVP so that teams could score points not just by killing others in PVP but by completing quests or boss kills if so desired by GGG. Otherwise the conflict would be finished when there is only one clan left.

At that point the game could be completed and the clan leader receive a reward or the game can be restarted with those remaining people disbanded and randomly shifted to other areas of the dungeons and the process begin again save this time the five or otherwise predetermined amount of deaths allowed would not be reset so people would be more likely to be eliminated than incorparted into new clans. This would continue until all players were eliminated save one. Anyone who logged out or was disconnected would be automatically eliminated.

Also some mechanic would have to exist to prevent players from hiding the whole game. Perhaps players from different clans or unaffiliated status would show up on the map of other players.

A temporary PvP only league.
Pretty much make a new character, make them max lvl with all available skills to be set and stuff. then after so many days or w/e the person with the most kills wins? dunno how that would tie into an account, but maybe with an achievement system?

can took many forms but the essential of it is :

-only one character available

-after a set period all the characters on the server become hardcore characters (before this the game behave as normal)

-after a set period there must be only one character on the server

modality and options to implement this :

-after the set period when the character become hardcore, each time it join a zone with a WP it automatically join a zone wich contain other players (automatically counted as a team member though no teaming option available at this time)

-towns encampment will be unavailable and when you log ingame you join a random zone with other people in it, automaticaly.

-toward the end of the "there can be only one" time, (like may be 7 days) each surviving character must log a minimum time each day and have at least one kill or they are eliminated.
(problem here : prevent the wp camping : characters log randomly when logging on the map....)

we can also add some features like ironman etc...

PRIZE :

-for the winner a special title (like Immortal of Exile)

-for the 10 last a special title (like Survivor of Exile)

-every others might earn a special little tittle too (only if they die after the starting time not if they don't log anymore)?


This league can be a lot of fun for very competitives players (unlike me ;))!

ps : At death characters join an harcore parent league (and then ultimately the default league but can keep the title).
