10 Reasons Why Dark Souls 2 > POE

"
Anyone care to explain how they are fundamentally different games instead of just being an asshat?

Read the OP
Sorry just woke up and this the first thread of the day for me.

WTF do you even compare?

Ok by your logic we can have this
-starting rant-
WHY POE>DS2

1)Monster density in DS2 is non existant

2)POE is clearly harder because you cant telegraph attacks(exept vaal)

3)POE has less gated content

4)AOE is irrelevsnt in DS2,what AOE does here is a whack and can kill things in whole screen!!

5)Poe has many more ways to craft overall

6)Harder PVP here,in terms of cutthroat, you lose all equips!

7)POE is an online game and we can trade things and party for a full time while killing hordes of monsters,in DS2 you cant.

8)No real difficulty in DS2 as you can telegraph any thing and you must continue increasing difficulty so you can have monsters respawn! What a lame game ..

-ending rant-

As mch as i like ds2,its a COMPLETE DIFFERENT GAME.Are you on crack comparing them?
Bye bye desync!

POE = ARPG
DS2 = MMORPG

Different Genres. If you don't know the difference (there are core differences) use wiki. :)

I don't see why anyone would even want to compare these two games, sure the're both action RPG hack n slash but that's where the similarity stops. They both take a completely different approach to game mechanics. DS2 is a thrid person game with an open world, POE is a top down game with randomly generated levels. Saying they have a lot in common, while not wrong, is pointless. All RPG games have a lot in common. Even turn based RPG games will have a lot similarities. Last time I checked I couldn't 6 link my chest in DS2, or respec out of life and into energy shield on a skill tree. I couldn't even get 20q on my lightning spear dag nabbit.

The way the games are fundamentally similar is the way you build your character!

I am not talking about different camera angles or how you swing your sword. I am talking about the core design of starting off weak and building your character via stats & gear.

Many people will tell you that in order to be a 'good game' you have to have layers & layers of RNG to gear, to make the grind long, for there to RNG gated content, that crafting can't be deterministic ect, or "ppl will just quit", yada yada yada.

All that applies to how you 'build your character', and building characters in both games is a quite similar affair, you get stats, you get gear & it defines your character.

Absent are the layers of RNG, gated content & gambling crafting in DS & subsequently building a character is a much more rewarding experience, the same can't be said for POE.
I just want to add, that the Item drops from Red Phantoms are pretty random and you can only kill them once per run. You would have to go NG+ or use a bonfire ascetic to get another chance.

And in general: PoE is an Isometric Hack'n'Slash Action Role Playing game with Randomized areas and loot.

How exactly can you think that you can compare this to Dark Souls 2?

Isometric? No
Randomized Areas? No
Randomized Loot? No

So you only compare them on the bases that you Role play while killing monster in both games...

I have heard of puzzle games where you Build a character with stats etc. Do you want to compare those too?

Well, DS2 is not a hack&slash but i agree that it's great.

Dark Souls (1,2) is closer to ARPG than you think. It's just a DIFFERENT view on ARPG. Hardcore view, i would say.

Though, online play in DS2 isnt perfect, as it leaves possibilities for cheaters. But at least, PvP makes sense there, and whole game is extremely skill-based, despite of great choice of weapons, crafting and leveling up.

To be honest, i was just today looking up Dark Souls on Google becouse someone else mentioned somewhere that it's better than Poe & Diablo 3.

When i found the first couple of links & videos, i was scratching my head about the fact that while PoE and Diablo 3 are pretty much similar game types, Dark Souls isn't even the same type of game or even genre, so after a couple of minutes i decided that the person making that comparison probably didn't have a good idea of what certain gaming genres look & feel like.

For comparison, it's like saying that Starcraft 2 is a better game than Dota 2 or that WoW is a better game than Neverwinter nights or that Need for speed is a better game than Micromachines; sure, they have some things and mechanics in common, but they're fundamentally different genres & gametypes.

Op, good for you that you enjoy Dark Souls, but comparing it with PoE is basicly wasting your time & energy. My 2 cents.

For me both games are about building characters & I generally approach each game in a similar way, deciding what I want to specialise in, planning stats & the ways to obtain gear. For me that is 'the game' and I feel that the approach is similar enough for each game that their design methods can be compared. I feel that both games have more in common than not.
