10 Reasons Why Dark Souls 2 > POE

"
For me both games are about building characters & I generally approach each game in a similar way, deciding what I want to specialise in, planning stats & the ways to obtain gear. For me that is 'the game' and I feel that the approach is similar enough for each game that their design methods can be compared. I feel that both games have more in common than not.

In call of duty I can build my character and put in specialize perks and choose what type of combat I want to use as well as upgrading my guns.

DS2 = MMORPG

What?

Both games are ARPGs but they are pretty much as far from each other as possible within the genre. Due to its non-random nature DS2 kind of doesn't have PvE end game (after NG++ or so you just don't gain anything) so its replay value is somewhat limited to speed runs and PvP (just to note I have played about 1k hours of both Demons' Souls and Dark Souls so I do know how these games work - for a while making new characters is replay value but after a while you can make new finished character in few hours).

In PoE the randomness (in some cases even too much I'd say) creates more end game content. It's almost impossible to finish a character in the same sense you finish characters in DS (in static game you are guaranteed to have BiS equipment). In PoE there's (almost) always a room for improvement but in DS characters will reach they optimal state in rather short time and after that there nothing but PvP for that toon.

To me the question which is a better game comes down to this: are you more interested in PvP or PvE. If PvP then DS2 is probably better, if PvE then PoE. From design perspective both are excellent games and well worth playing no matter if you prefer PvE or PvP. In the long run the design decisions just make them very different experiences.

Because both are Action RPGs yet have complete different takes on how they implement RNG.

Because both are Action RPGs yet have complete different takes on how they implement RNG and "difficulty".

If one's time has a value at all, that aspect is fairly meaningless. If I spend 100, 500, 1000 or more hours of my life on something, it doesn't matter if it costs fifty bucks or nothing. I'd never play a game only because it's free or only because it costs money, and to me, there is no correlation between the price and the entertainment value. That's also why I never agree when people say stuff like, "Yeah, PoE has desync, but that's okay because it's free!".
