[Official] WINE info thread

Hm, ever since 1.2 patch, I am getting short, half-second game freezes when following happens:
- I insert or remove a gem into an item that I have equipped
- I level up a gem
- I gain or lose a frenzy charge (maybe any type of charge)
- I use Frenzy skill and the attack connects with a mob, even if no new frenzy charge is gained from it

It seems like the game started doing some stuff on these events, and wine is handling it badly. I am using wine 1.5.28-PathOfExile set to emulate Win7, official nvidia graphics driver. I start PoE via playonlinux.

Any suggestions what to try?

EDIT: Partial solution two posts below. :)

The most recent patch nukes performance on a lot of machines. I dont think it has anything to do with wine or the hardware, since I get shitty fps on both, on the same machine, when before 1.2 it ran fine. It also still runs fine on my secondary machine, which is considerably less powerful. (Dualcore, 2gb, 8800gts vs hexcore, 8gb, gtx470with a 100mhz core overclock)
HAIL SATAN!
Actually, all of the freezes seem to go away when using 1.7.19-WGL_WINE_surface2. The only downside is missing GGG logo in initial loading screen, and missing pictures in loading screens between areas.

Well, just wanted to say I'm here, too.

Finally managed to start the game at home, where I'm Windows-free.

Just that. Happy hack'n'slashing everyone!

I'm getting "Failed resetting Direct3D device objects"

Anyone?
Just an FYI note to say PoE on PoL is working fine for me - though performance is less than under Windows. Kubuntu 14.04.

PoL config:

- GLSL Disabled (worked anyway)
- Wine 1.6-rc4 and 1.5.28-PathOfExile both work, no obvious difference, does not work with current 1.7.25
- Text registry hack applied but made no difference.

Notes/bugs:

- some fonts buggy but legible
- FPS is 45-65 whereas under Win 7 it's 10/20 FPS higher
- trying to set full-screen res. different to the native f/s res. of Kubuntu breaks interestingly so I don't do that!
- I have turned off high shadows and all anti-aliasing, at my screen res. it makes little difference anyway
- getting the GTX 750 Ti working was 'interesting' as it is too new for mainstream support in K/Ubuntu
- options screen music on/off not working, not a big surprise. Audio quality however seems better than Win 7
- there is a little screen line refresh tearing occasionally about 25% up but I can ignore it
- this machine also runs Steam on Linux just great.

Conclusion:

Perfectly playable, but not quite optimal. I will still boot to Win for an evening playing, but for lunchtime @ work PoE/PoL is fine.

GGG: please consider an official release, I know you have plenty to do but a supported Steam on Linux release would sell you a lot of extras, I have little doubt, as the range of mainstream games on Steam for Linux currently is limited :) Then I will only need Windows for Cubase - and I could get a Mac/Hac I suppose!

Cheers all.
Eeeek!

Try and install the DX redistributable libs from the directory in the game installation path.

$ wine ./DXSetup

Should do the trick.

Of course, the usual request for further details, like your machine/software setup, would help a ton, in case it won't work.

I'm seeing this with gems (I don't use frenzy so can't comment there). I'm also getting the half-second freeze on mob death as well, which is painful in a busy room.

I'm already running 1.7.19-WGL_WINE_surface2, and I saw some thoughts that it might be related to PulseAudio, but I'm not using Pulse. Any other things I can check?

Specs for reference: Archlinux (3.16.1-1-ARCH), nVidia GeForce GT 555M/635M (340.32-1), sound through alsa only.
I've no idea, sorry. Wine and proprietary games is like black magic to me - either it works, or it doesn't, and there is little you can do apart from blindly trying stuff to see if it helps. :)

Since today's patch, not being on full mana causes FPS to drop to unplayable levels. I've seen others with the same issue. It doesn't happen if life drops, and turning off the hp/mana numbers over the globes doesn't help either. This seems like a potential showstopper..

I'm running 1.5.28-PathOfExile.

edit: never mind, using a more recent version (1.7.19-WGL_WINE_surface2) fixes the problem.
