Honestly, Space's spec/gear is the most efficient way to do an elemental CoC build. There are cheap alternatives, but by dropping Windripper, you are significantly losing out on the staple of this build. (And if you can afford a Windripper, you likely can afford a Rat's Nest, etc.)

MauranKilom has the only decent Quill Rain template I have ever seen. But it is a completely different build.

If you do a physical version with a Harbinger or Lioneye's, again that is a completely different spec/gear setup, of which there are several guide threads for, both in this forum and the Ranger section.

While I agree that adding disclaimers and suggestions like you mentioned would be nice for newbies, I disagree about it being a brag fest. It's a really efficient reference for a very specific target audience.
I'm glad to hear people are having success with variations on the build and that it has inspired some people to try new thing!

I'll address a couple points -

Atlas - about spelldmg nodes - I've already grabbed all the convenient ones in shadow start. Getting into the witch tree for spelldmg nodes is just not very efficient. The points are better spent elsewhere tbh. They are very nice for the build, but the availability is limited in the shadow + ranger trees.

Agentofstrife - I'm stoked to hear that your adjustments to the build worked out well. A budget version with a volls protector and quillrain is definetly viable, even if it's not optimal. This is also great for lvling since they are such low lvl uniques, you can get the build working quickly. I've mentioned elsewhere in the thread, but if you are using quillrain EK is a great spell to use since it benefits from the up to 100% projectile speed from quillrain. The best coc quillrain builds ive seen used arc + EK. But there's a lot of options!

Kompaniet - I'm not really sure what you're asking for when asking for a guide to the build. The original post has my gear, reasoning behind it, and skilltree. What more do you need? This build is not aimed at beginners. I assume anyone trying it out has at least a decent understanding of game mechanics. Really all i look at for build guides are their gear and passive tree - advanced players can piece together how a build functions pretty well from just that info. I've answered a lot of specific questions throughout the thread - if there is anything in particular you'd like to know I'm happy to help.

As far as adding a budget section for gear - it wouldn't be the same build. A lot of items could be used to make a coc bow build effective, but in my opinion the gear i'm using is optimal. And as far as the multi exalt brag fest - I bought most this stuff early in the league for far less than the cost of a shavs or kaoms heart - both of which you see all over the place in end game builds.

Feyith (as usual) summed it up quite nicely - this is an efficient reference point for a specific audience who already has an understanding of game mechanics. No, it is not a good first build for people, which is why I did not approach it from a beginners perspective.

Also, the idea of using Vaal Grace on reflect is a really good suggestion. I'll have to give it a shot and see how well it works, but it could be great.

The bow can easily be replaced by a cheap bow like quill rain, lioneye or any rare bow with as high crit chance as possible.

The chest can be replaced by a cheap 5L. Just drop arc gem.

Rat's nest can be replaced by a cheap Starkonja helm.

Rest of items can be filled by cheap rares.

Reflects can be handled by activating vaal grace.

How is this bragging? He has posted vital info about the tree and the gear he uses so people can get as close as possible to replicating this...
I am the world's best path of exile player, I strong I kill all monster with amazing power
Im currently doing an alternative build of this one aswell and i'll be doing same damage or even more, swaping that bow with an high crit wand (im talking about 11,04%) and running 4 auras, 3 purities and grace, and a low clarity just to feed enough mana. So ill have 80% resist to all and will go for iron reflexes, since i'm using a shield i have chance to block. the only 3 hard to get items are a 6 link chest (using tabula) rats nest maligaro's gloves and 1% of Cold Damage Leeched as Life on a corrupted amulet, the rest is spell damage life and resistence and some accuracy

So far i expend 5ex. i have more life

this is my tree plan

Jazzmaniac - I've mentioned before that I think the ideal version of coc barrage would use wands. Your tree looks pretty solid - with a good wand and shield with spelldmg you could do great damage, while still having good defense.

Good luck with it, im curious to hear how it goes.
Using this build and loving it.. my gear

thanks for the reply SpaceJanitor I wish i could afford a windripper, I preffer bows over wands, but its so fun to play CoC builds i dont mind using a wand :) just wondering why not using 2 arctic breaths isntead of using fireball? just asking this because I could try to max cold resist to deal with the reflect. I' new with CoC builds though.
I respec'd a character I wasn't using to try this. My gems are still fairly low levels, but I can still 1-shot most things, and if not, kill them very quickly. Lacking a bit of cold resist, but all I need is a new amulet.
What do you think of this as a cheap alternative to Windripper? (Just a bow I had lying in my stash)

But yeah, Love the build, thanks for the guide ;)
Hi Space,

Interesting build. I had one question for you; I have eth knives linked with coc, barrage and chain, however, I am unable to use eth knives unless I remove CoC. Do I need weap on switch
?

Cheers!
