The game launched to 60k people per day playing and now its a fraction of that with the average playtime of new people being at most a week (where in early beta we would be and be hooked enough to stay). Most people just walk back out the the door without saying a single word to ggg anymore.
Actually, the game still peaks around that number at one time. The number online in a day is much much higher.. It's just that most of the playerbase doesn't use the steam client.
The suggestion that there is this mass exodus is kinda funny.

there was a mass exodus. anybody who was playing at the time noticed it.
were you playing the game?
just because new clueless players enter the game doesn't mean there wasn't a mass exodus.

Do you have actual statistics to back up any of these claims?

There is a thread with the steam client usage stats, and I remember there being about 30 trade chats after release (in the 4 month non-hardcore league). I think now there's up to 20 or so at peak times.
Nobody has the actual stats that you're looking for, though. GGG might.
my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes

Bug Fixes:
People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. Also, we went ahead and made cyclone great for CoC casters while we were at it.

For starters, an obvious sign of players leaving are public parties, and that's indisputable.
As for me, when I played Ambush a bit, I saw no more than 5 friends online at the same time, while earlier, I was pissed because the scroll was too damn slow and I had to pull the sidebar.

GGG doesn't release those stats because they're embarrassing to them and downright depressing to the players.
if you could see those numbers, you would be far more likely to quit the game, which is 100% why they don't show them to you

I actually had a thread about that between me and my friends and their friends and their friends... I watched about 1k people walk out the door to not return. When you start adding people I helped in global chat, everyone I know of that helped anyone, we all watched people walk away and its total was well over 5k people (maybe as high as 50k).
And yes, with the high profile it has on the steam store that includes auto-updating + a web browser in game (for checking poe.xyz like a in-game always accessible auction house) I suspect that most of the user base has moved to the steam version and each day more of the old client base either quit or moved to steam.

Indeed, they do. Why wouldn't they?

I agree with the logic, but it isn't so.

That's what I mean. All the stats that have been made public suggest that the playerbase is dwindling. Said MaxTheModerator decided that there's no diminishing playerbase because "the game still peaks around that number" without any statistics evidence.
I'm curious if he has any actual statistics to suggest the reasonable observation that the game's playerbase is drying up is false.

I understand. You don't know me, and why should you trust me. That's cool. Why not be skeptical? I really don't understand why more players DON'T use the steam client.
Would you take the more publicly vocal Charan's word for it?
