I'm Unhappy I Put As Much Money As I Did In This Game

but what would that solve? I could come back and the same problems would probably present themselves to me.

It is because you see them as problems. You have expectations that may not be in line with the developers. More than anything else, this is what creates the misguided "buyer's remorse" expressed by many of the Supporters in this thread.

GGG is, for all intents and purposes, like Public Radio and Public Television in the USA. They produce and distribute content and depend on the consumers of that content in order to pay the bills. I support public radio, and I support GGG. I do so not because I expect them to change because of my support, quite the opposite. I support them so that they can keep providing me the consistent product that they let me enjoy for free in the first place.(yes, the game is a consistent product, I'm not entertaining balance changes as inconsistent)

There was no bait and switch. The product is the same, some of the packaging and ingredients will change from time to time, but it's the same product. Either you appreciate it and support it or you don't. Supporting and then expecting the game to change as a result is as rational as expecting someone to change after you marry them.

GGG does somewhat suck at balancing and this is compounded by the glacial pace they move at and it hamstrings the game more often than not

Yeah, having such a small team plus the onus of continually adding more content can do that. Though sometimes we deliberately put off certain things until the end of the 4-month leagues, for example.

Ah well. Time for my irregularly scheduled programme of eldritch slumber.

You quoted the single point of criticism in my loving post and now I come across as a whiner T_T

Seriously, I know the team is small -- that's why I wish sometimes you guys would just slow down the content train for a little while and take a breath. See what game balance needs, tune dem skills, do a pass on diffuculty, whatnot... But I figure you guys will get there. :)

For what it's worth, I've been reading everyone's posts and I haven't found yours to be in a whining matter, I think it was paraphrased to that to keep the post size reduction reasonable. It's the same reason I didn't quote all of what Rhys had to say. I was called out on whining by someone here, and never considered that I was and someone corrected them on it, I would consider us whiners...and if we are...

Whiners unite!

Also, I would like to take a minute to thank everyone posting on here. It's been mostly well mannered and supportive that this game isn't perfect. Even to those who are really enjoying the game, I'm glad you found your way here to share your opinions, because they are just that, opinions, and I'm glad you can find enjoyment out of the game.

And that simply is wrong. One would expect balancing to improve, not becoming worse with every major patch. They either keep doing the same mistakes over and over again or heavily try to force a specific meta, for whatever reason that would be.

This comparison is bankrupt from reality.

GGG is nothing like NPR in the USA.

NPR is a non-profit company. GGG is not. GGG exists explicitly to generate profits.

I'm also sad more people didn't read my story from page 3 (Rhys especially - although judging from the way he responded to others - he probably doesn't give a shit).

If GGG actually gave a shit about the product overall - rather than just profits - stories like that would not happen.

i rly liked the game before 1.0.0 came out, but then they started to rename the game "path of nurfs". i stopped giving GGG money when 1.0.0 hit and will not give them any cent until they finally go down from their high throne and finally start balancing the game around fun and not around nurfs.

No good, varied or fun loot drops.

Getting blocked by bad drops is certainly a problem if it happens before endgame. Even though we've been continually increasing the amount of drops (via strongboxes, Invasion bosses, rogue exiles, shrines, Vaal secret areas, etc.) there are still a few kinks in the progression curve, notably around mid-Cruel (as you astutely pointed out). We also did increase the chances to get 4L on gear, which is important at that stage of the game.

Hey rhys, just a suggestion, but wouldn't it help if quest rewards that give rare items also had guarenteed 4L whites as an alternative to the rare? The 4L chance change only effected fusing useage, which was a really good change, but for conservative players using a fusing at cruel is going to be a waste as the gear won't be useable for very long.

By the way, I like seeing down to earth posts from devs like this one. They're not the most professional but then, that's why they don't feel fake like most company responses do.

I vehemently disagree with what I learned (too late) to be the philosophy behind PoE. When Chris said in his interview with Athene that people who play in soft core do so because they're not mentally strong enough for hardcore and that people who don't like trading just don't know what's fun I lost any respect I had for him, GGG, and PoE.

Huh, you sure he wasn't just joking around or something? I haven't seen the vid, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually feel that way, and I know most of us at GGG would disagree with those statements.

Chris didn't say those things in the Athene interview.

I'm not entirely clear on your exact point, but I'm guessing something like you feel pressured to trade, which you don't like? Well, you certainly can play and enjoy the game without trading, or with minimal trading, if you so choose. You'll need to temper your expectations accordingly, of course.

Hey Rhys, thanks for taking the time to answer. OP's abrasive tone aside, I have to agree with him. What made Diablo 2 so memorable was that trading wasn't necessary to reap the greatest (albeit not numerically perfect) items the game had to offer. Given time (not years but many months) you could get a top tier character without ever trading. This is decidedly not possible in Path of Exile. I recognize there's good reasons for that, after all increasing drop rates would severely impact the players that do trade. As an aside, the above encouraged PvP in Diablo 2 because the disparity between 'perfect' and 'good' was not so great.

In fairness what I'm about to suggest is already being tackled by GGG, but I would like to encourage it. Add item sinks to the game and turn up drop rates. Any impact to the economy will be offset by item sinks and players who don't trade (as well as those who do) will find their experience that much more rewarding. The Vaal Orb does just that and I applaud its addition into the game. The game can only improve with expansions to that mechanic.
Spoiler
For example, let us corrupt orbs which would corrupt items but give more controlled outcomes i.e. corrupt chromatics can roll white sockets or shuffle colors or worse black sockets. Even if the risk vs reward is significantly worse players will appreciate the superficial sense of control.
That's what it really comes down to for most players, they want a sense of control and they want to feel rewarded for their commitment. To that end I would very much like the item turnover in normal and cruel (that is the time between upgrades) hastened and the incentive to craft in normal and cruel reevaluated. Crafting is such a cool part of the game but most players can't handle the compunction that results from using orbs outside of the end game. Indeed addressing the latter might correct the former.

So, in summation: Keep adding item sinks, they let you turn up drop rates without hurting the economy and make playing the game more rewarding; Reevaluate currency orbs in normal and cruel, encourage their use in those levels and you will please a lot of players who are otherwise put off by the economic compunction that follows their early game use.

edit: To guys talking about loot tables for bosses and uniques. I agree. Loot tables were a friend to the non-trading and casual player. Loot tables are also good for making recipe based crafting interesting. Ambush brought loot-tabled chests, why don't we have loot-tabled monsters?

No you haven't. Maybe watch the video again and try to understand what Chris is saying?
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
