How does one transition from 5link to 6link?

Alternative way, if you don't feel like abusing gullible people:
Step 1: buy a high ilvl item or unique you want to use
Step 2: 6S it
Step 3: spend orbs of fusing until you get a 5L or a 6L.
Step 4: If you got a 5L, otherwise ignore this step and go to Step 5, sell the 5L for 1ex if white and 4ex+ depending on what unique. Go to step 1.
Step 5: Enjoy your 6L.

This might not be treated as scamming, but you are betraying people who successfully 5L your item. At least these people loose big time. So do not talk about win-win. It is just lack of manners and making this behaviour official will make it even more difficult to motivate people for a fair lottery.

You realize you can buy a cheap 6 link with 5 exas, right? That has probably decreased since I bought one for that price many weeks ago.

I have no idea how other self-found players try this but here's my take on it...

Pre-current leagues I had only ever crafted one 6L item and it was in Standard and was insane (over 1100 ES) and it cost me like 20chaos and 41 fusings... so much luck.

Other than that, never have I even attempted a 5L. I've only ever found them.


On Point:
At the moment I have a Taryn's Shiver and its 5L'd (cost me around 80 fusings). I want to 6L it.
First thing is to realise that crafting a 6L can make you completely broke. So don't allow that to happen. Do things in spurts. Work the averages.

Before I unlink the 5L in an attempt to 6L I make sure I have atleast 300 fusings. That has ALWAYS gotten me back to 5L status apart from one time where I then had to farm more on an alt. It didn't suck because I knew it could happen.

Then, spam those fusings :)

Fusings are easy enough to farm... just farm alterations and trade up at the shop to jewellers, then fusings. Piety MF runs are insane for fusing farm although I'm sure Merveil is meant to be better, im just greedy for higher ilvl uniques.

Despite what some say, it doesnt take a year to farm fusings however, if you are even thinking of crafting it, be very aware that you may not do it before the end of the league.

I'm unsuccessful so far.

On a side note, buying a 6L can feel awesome (I suppose?!) but nothing can beat the feeling of making one. I play ARPG's to find/make my char and gear, this game can be brutal so it feels even better.

Choose a build that gets very little from a 6L. Faster attacks in a 6L is a pretty good indicator that the build works great in a 5L.

What I described happens a lot and all the time. The more it is talked about, the less gullible people we (hopefully) have.

a 6L cloak of defiance costs 15ex+ in invasion.

In any case, why would you pay 5ex for a crappy 6L, when you can pay 3-5ex for a really good 6L?

Its absolutly devastating for the games health that fuses destroy 5l imo.

The number of links is >>>BUILD-DEFINING<<<, yet its not possible to keep your 5l if you desire a 6l.


What is the problem in not making downgrades impossible but lowering the chance to 6l? This would be a LOT BETTER imo.

The combined exspected number of fusings may be the same as now, but the important part is, that you CAN use 5links.

I will never understand why in hells name this has not been done yet...really crazy.

Lets assume chances are:

5l: 1/50
6l: 1:800

then change it to

5l: 1/50
5->6l: 1:850 while you cant downgrade your 5l

PS.:

Recently I spent all my stuff I found in ~50 hours played on 6 linking a ilvl 78 armor and got NOTHIGN. I dont get mad, but I just ask myself "Not fun. Why do I even play the game?"
Espacially if I use over 1000 Armor scraps to increase my chance.
What can I do more?

I really hate the "all or nothing" policies in games. They are not necessary but only frustrating. I know and play other games where it is enjoyable to work your way to a distant goal, even though you have to farm a lot.

In POE its like this:

This is what the game says to you. Too much variance. If it would take 850-1150 fusings it would be ok, but this spread surely is unhealthy for the game.

What the devs maybe dont grasp is that NEGATIVE LUCK is not compareable with POSITIVE luck.

Yes, you may find 1 Kaoms un 20000h hours played and this is totally fine but if a BUILD DEFINING goal is taking you 10-500h spent its just DISGUSTING.

Ill tell my experiences with 6 linking just for the heck of it. In nemesis league I found a good bow, 5 linked it myself pretty easily. Then later at some point I decided to try and 6 link it myself, and I only had around 60 fusings. Boom, 50 fusings spent, 6linked! Was so happy and surprised.

Then later, I found a better bow, and I wanted to 6 link that too. Well, after at least 2.5k fusings spent, still no 6 link.

Its so random :o So far I have 6 linked 1 item, and in total I have had two 6 linked items on my account and I have played since closed beta (however, I dont play all the time, I take monthly breaks when I get burned out).
