My computer started crashing only while playing POE

Hey there,

If anyone is having issues with computer crashes, can they please e-mail us at support@grindinggear.com? This allows us to monitor the cases of this occuring more easily, and respond to individual reports where necessary.

Be sure to include any and all information, including details of where the crash occurs, any error reports, and a dxdiag report.

@Wyldfae

We're sorry to hear there has been an issue here. If you would like to diagnose this issue further you are welcome to e-mail us or continue posting here.

Could you please monitor your PC temperature while running Path of Exile and try reinstalling previous/original sound card drivers?
Need Support? support@grindinggear.com.
I have the same issue. I also enjoy this game very much yet having my tower shut down randomly is really frustrating and I'm sure not good for my hardware. On the plus side my pc has recieved tons of tlc since I've this prob started happening and I thought it might be an issue on my end. I've read forum after forum. I've rolled back drivers and updated them again when that didn't work. I constantly monitor all gpu and cpu temps now and have no issues. I looked up the specs on my cpu and graphics card for proper operating temps and they remain well under any danger area. The only solution I've tried that someone posted that in the end was a negative was trying to get a a blue screen report in which I'm not getting a blue screen. suposedly requiring me so turn off system restore for this to happen which deleted all my restore points. And guess what I still have no blue screen report.

My specs are
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 970 Processor black edition not oc'd
nvidia gtx 560
windows 7 ultimate
4x2GB dual channel ram (8GB)
dx 11

I realize its a newish game and games have bugs to fix. And its funded pretty much by donation. I can appreciate and understand these things. I would just like to know if there's anyone working on this issue on the development side of things. And one thing that has really gotten under my skin about the forums I've read and all the things I've tried on my end to resolve this issue is that I like many have no issues with any other game. Yet when other customers have also said this in the forums the burden of resolving the issue has still been consistantly rebounded to be dealt with by the customer. If I buy gas from 5 gas stations including yours and my car runs like crap only when I buy your gas. Its not a problem with my car your sellin bad gas. Computers shutting down is a pretty big deal and less understandable for a game thats not in alpha or beta anymore.

things I'm tried thus far
complete disassembly full system cleaning
ram chck
hd error check and defrag
rolled back drivers
disabled drivers and tried no sound
turning volume all the way down
minimal settings
constantly monitoring temps of cpu gpu and hd (no issues on any settings)

not playing (this option worked) and may be the only viable one I've vested 15 bucks a piece for me and a friend and have logged 300hrs of play time so if I quit now I wouldn't feel financially ripped I guess.

Anyhew just letting you know my situation as well.
And I have the same problem. I am suffering with this is a decent amount of time. Initially, there was a problem in desynс then began to appear a black screen with a terrible noise sound is interrupted, and then the image returns to the place and I could play again. But I was greatly frightened, because I have a pretty powerful machine that issues such as csgo 400 FPS.
Over time, this black screen began to appear more frequently in the later game take off. After some time my computer was just hang, even the mouse cursor cannot move, I make an emergency reboot, although with all the other games still all right and without changes, everything is going great. All these problems are completely random, it does not depend on the place where I am in the game or what I was doing. Help how to improve it, because the game is very good.
if your card is overclocked by the manufacturer there is a slight chance you're affected by a voltage on the card set too low, especially if it's a nvidia gtx 570.

the internet is full of complaints about blackscrens with these cards in games. as a solution you can use afterburner to reduce the cards clock or increase the voltage. alternatively some companies provided bios updates their graphics cards which increase the voltage as well.

Shoot, I just found this after I posed my own thread... so I will just cut and paste my post here:

---------------------
Hi, new to the game and loving it EXCEPT the two hard system crashes I had today don't make me feel too good about running the game until I know what is the cause.

I generally play about 7-10 different games every day, including world of warcraft and am having no problems with any of them, so I am thinking it's game related and not my system.

System specs are Windows 8.1 Pro, Alienware 18 i7 4930, 32GB RAM, 2 x Nvicia 780M SLI with 8GB Video RAM... nothing is overclocked.. 2x786GB 7200RPM Drives in RAID0 with 80GB Cache SSD..
Running latest release Nvidia non-Beta drivers.. 334.89.

What happened the first time it crashed was I wes tabbed out and the game would't tab back in... went to a black screen... even the screen back-lighting went out... There was a electronic sound emitting thru the headphones that sounded like a stuck audio track.
The computer became totally non-responsive for 5 min, and finally after multiple attempts to ctrl-alt-del the game quit and the system was back.

2nd time... I was previewing a video on a nightlight effect I was considering buying and so the game sent me to the Youtube channel for Path of Exile and then when I tried to tab back to the game ... it hard crashed again.. this time I had to do a hard shut down to get control of my computer back..

Anyone else having this issue?

Any ideals?

Hi, I'm new to the game and I get the BSOD whenever I try to pass from one area to another. Now it's happening so often that I can't even access the game. Is there a fix?
Hi there,

Can you please update your graphics and sound drivers?

Kind regards
Gary
Please contact support@grindinggear.com if you need any assistance.
I've had the same thing happen to me.

Playing 30 mins to 6 hours then computer shutsdown and reboot itself. Goes into repair mode, sometimes it can repair sometimes it cannot. Mostly not. It will reboot and reboot. Sometimes i get to system restore and its ok for a while. crashes again after i start playing.

Checked all my hardware individually by swapping out each at the computer repair shop. no probs.

I have reinstalled windows 6 times since this happen. After fresh install i can play for about 2 days and then it crashes again. Very annoying. AS if the game is doing smth to the systme config or windows file. Has to repair and even fails to do that. Acts very weird.

running
i5 2500k
8gb ram
1tb WD HDD
Radeon HD 6950
gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3-iSSD

Right now i just did a fresh reinstall of windows. Playing BF4 no issue. Afraid to install POE now, and i wanna play! :(

Tried the -swa and -ns didnt help.

Cheers

Seb
Hello. I have same problem as you guys have. When I go play I got blue screen. Few days ago I did clean Windows 7 install. Before clean install I had 2x AMD 6970 cards now I have R9 290 card all other component are same. I have Creative sound card and I am using same drivers than before.

I am using Beta catalyst 14.1 drivers for my R9 290 card and I thought that was problem and I installed 13.12 drivers but that didnt help. So I uninstalled sound card drivers and that helped for me.

Also I linked my account to Steam. Before when I didnt have problem game wasnt linked.

Also I can play game like Battlefield 4 no problem with sound card drivers and 14.1 drivers.

You forgot -swa or --softwareaudio ... common problem with Creative Cards and BSOD.
