Set Items and Class Only

For me Set Items should offer some special Bonus u can only get from a full set, but without making it to powerful (and thats the real hard part)

That's not a bad idea. Similar to how unique items can offer unique bonuses except in this case you would need the entire set.

Set items could definitely be a good addition to the game if done properly. D2 is a great example of a set item system that failed. The real problem I see is that they would much more difficult and time-consuming to balance compared to standard equipment.

In Diablo2 set-items were useful.
For example sigons for low level chars to level them up faster?
Necromancers had a special set.
Tal-rasha set for low level sorc.

Set items are really useful and it's interesting to search and find the parts.

Sets in D2 were done extremely poorly. They took too long to collect and didn't do enough once you did for the character that you cared about.

As stated, they were mostly useful for your 10th character after you were largely burned out of the novelty of the game and just simply grinding :P

I think that set items can add significantly to the lore and flavor of a game, however there needs to be a mechanism such that you aren't passing up set items before you can use them.

Again this comes back to the same concept as totally random items/areas/bosses... without something that is static, the flavor and uniqueness is lost. This is where unique items and set items fills the gap... but it has to be done right.

There are some very interesting possibilities for sets in this game, since skills are also items.

Skill gem set anyone?
Weapon/skill gem set?
Flask/belt set?
Bow/Quiver set?

Could be interesting. I guess skill gems are already sets in a way due to the support gem system.

I agree that D2's sets were lacklustre. Partly because by the time you completed a set (if ever), it was 50 levels below you current gear, and partly because storage was at a premium. There would be one piece of the set that dopped every five minutes and one piece that dropped once per year.
I agree with the set problem that D2 had. Once you finally got any set you would rarely want to actually use it. But I do like the idea of sets still. I personally am a fan of varying size sets rather than large ones (large meaning requires the majority of your items slots to complete the set). It would be fun to have the option to equip multiple small sets instead of one large set. Of course the set bonuses for the large set would be better though.

The D2 mod Median XL did a little better with the sets in that they were all high end, end game sets. You still could do better, but it took a lot of work grinding and crafting. They were large sets though which only left 2 or 3 slots for additional equipment.

Another thing I think would be interesting if sets had alternate set pieces, or a mix and match style system. But that would probably be way too much work to balance out and somewhat defeat the purpose of sets.
well if you know where to search it wont take forever to find loot you want.
Some builds just couldnt be done without set items.

sacred 2 has good sets .

there is not much more satisfying than finally getting the final piece of a set, i like to look good as well as hacking and slashing :-)
Set items were poorly done in D2. If you are going to be forced to use several slots for specific pieces of gear they should be better than any other fixed stat pieces (uniques etc) for that slot, other wise, whats the point? Or at the very least they need to offer some unique effect or powerful mods for having all them.

IMO if sets were left out of this game I wouldn't mind at all...I'd much rather use a rare with gg mods.
i would like to see smaller sets 2 or 3 items total. or looser bound sets, like 4-5 pieces and any 2 of that set will give you a set bonus but they wont keep piling up as you add more pieces. so you have a hat and some boots from the same set and gain the bonus but adding the other 3 parts does nothing. this way you have many combinations to choose from and better chances to find at least 2 parts early on vs trying to find all 5 before you out grow it.
