New class of item rarity: Mythical
Wow. From the thread title, I thought I'd hate this idea. It's actually pretty cool. I think the addition of the abnormal mod is the real kicker. Combining that with your balance of one negative mod is like adding randomly rolled uniques to the game.

Anything to add more depth to the game is whats required right now.
People are running piety non stop or maps for levels. The way the game is right now even with the passive tree and new skills its still very lackluster. We as a community need more things to do to keep us interested. One issue right now is the level grind which will change with the Expansion (i hope). But the way it is right now i dont want to grind to level 90+ to get my ideal passive tree build. The grind is just too long and thats why leveling new characters isnt as appealing. Neither is running the same three acts hundreds of times. It needs more customization more loot hunt, specific targeted areas. Look as D2LoD that game has everything to keep people interested. Obviously it took years to get it to where it is now. But if GGG wants to make this game great they need to do it faster otherwise this game will become obsolete by the time it gets to the level of D2. Im not suggesting to copy everything from D2 and implement that. (which i wouldn't mind...). Adding to the loot hunt by adding variations of. - Runes - Rune Words - Gems (Stats) - Jewels - Set Items - Charms - Ubers - Targeted MF spots (ex. D2LoD Act 1 Tower Rune Runs) - Rerolling Characters for Hellforge Quest in D2 was always fun but it also took a while and u were not guaranteed ur drops. - Horadric Cube Recipes with Guaranteed prefixes/suffixes was something that kept me loot hunting for the recipy mats. (Rings/Amulets/Belts...) crafting items with a guaranteed prefix/suffix will allow more people to enjoy the game and add more depth. (They wont feel like they are loosing everything when they waste everything and get nothing). I Agree with OP wholeheartedly - having a slight chance at getting a better item is what will add to the depth of the loot hunt. My Future Is Not Where My Dream Is. I dont really like the idea of having 4 prefixes, it would bring nothing new to game apart from the fact that no1 would want rare weapons anymore, mythical weapons would dominate the league (aka flat physical + inc phys + inc phys hybrid + lightning would most likely become the new bis items) i dont see how that brings more depth in game apart from making rare/magic items useless |

I can see your point, Aetherium.
But consider this: instead of people being pigeon-holed into Uniques like Soul Taker and Shavronnes', we'd actually have more options with Mythical drops. Plus they cannot be mirrored and you can only (as proposed) use 1 of them, so it would be quite strategic to choose it wisely. Yes, many people would choose to use that Mythical slot for a weapon, but then comes the issue of chance (of getting the right Mythical weapon) >> AVAILABILITY, which is essentially the same when you think about Soul Takers and other truly godly weapons. We'd only be enlarging the pool of possibilities and making the item hunt more complex, varied and exciting. :- ) Here since Closed Beta. Never found a Mirror. Still love PoE. :- )

I'm not happy anymore when I drop a unique (since almost all of them are not useful for me and can't me sold either). Such a mythic drop would really be exciting ! The item would truelly be unique. So I think I would be happy to keep it even if I have no use for it yet (contrary to low/mid level uniques, that aren't even worth their stash space since I can buy them for 1c later if I truelly need one).
