Caliga Imperatrix
Well there are only a handfull of situations where you can ensure not getting hit by any form of attack.
And only these situations are the strong part of Saffels. But honestly with the new purity auras I don't even bother switching to saffels. Due to the increasing returns in the efficiency of resistances you can easily cut the elemental damage by 1/3 just with such an aura, which means even a BM char could run them and still get a benefit. The problem with some of the newer bosses is that they are far too focussed on one type of attack-form. The first Spell-Only boss was the oversoul but at least all his adds use attacks (well and the slam propably is an attack, but it won't hit a player mostly anyway). Pietys first form only uses spells and dominus literally has a spell and an attack phase. But than most of these battles are centered around avoidance anyway. Saffels helps with the falling rocks, but you normally dodge the lightning anyway at oversoul. You normally only take Pietys Arc and you don't want to get hit by any of Dominus attacks (the Touch of God propably is an attack anyway). The only real benefit of Saffels is Caliga and... I think it was Torture Chamber? Exspecially since there is no real alternative for adding max-lightning-res, while you can use Phönix or Kaltenhalt/Aegis for Cold and Fire. And with something like 85% Resists + the option for Flasks you don't even need a Saffels, since without proper preparation you don't really benefit from the low spell-block, the only reason for using it is the Max-Resist thing. I use Saffels for Max-Resists, not for Spellblock (I got something like under 30% Blockchance, which isn't much) and in 2 out of 3 Situations I could use another item to achieve the same. |

" I don't understand what are you trying to say. If you mean there are nasty modes in game, I will agree, and could even mention some more of them, to make the whole picture darker. Engage them with 75% spell block and you'll hardly be hit. But if you are hit, it will hurt. Nothing new. Then try it without spell block and come back to express yourself. "Nope. Everywhere when the source of the enemy attack is a spell. From a pack of lightning champs to every magic dmg boss. " It was very plain english. Even with maxed spell block, a crem boss / piety with dmg and -max res doesnt magically become faceroll. " you dont need saffell for anything besides piety, dominus, megaera, caliga, maybe the map totem boss with some crazy mods, and maybe .... maybe .... some nasty mod shipyard gravicius. Thats it. Weaver and sallazzang and the map library boss also use some crazy dmging spells, maybe those too ... but vs weaver you would be crazy to use saffell. Better use lioneye + SOL / strides cuz of all the flicker spiders. Last edited by mvm199#0755 on Nov 28, 2013, 10:53:52 AM

" Well it will power you up a lot for any spell-casting based bosses ( a lot of boss maps are no real threat, but that's not a reason why Saffells should power up that much against such bosses ). And gaining 35%spellblock chance is huge honestly, if you are already using rainbow stride you're probably already beyond 40%spell block chance. I would also like an alternative for max lightning res, maybe we could just remove the +%max fire/cold res from Saffell, that would be more reasonnable already. " Not complete faceroll, but getting from "That's gonna be hard and very dangerous" yo "it should be fine" is already too much for a single item. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. Last edited by Fruz#6137 on Nov 28, 2013, 10:55:57 AM

" so if I swap from dual strike to double strike with lioneye vs carnage, then lioneye is broken right? |

Thanks for teaching me not to use Saffel vs weaver. Wow. Even mentioned a solution. Thanks. Lol. Get away.

" I could use Stone of Lazwar and Rainbow-Stride... but honestly if Rainbow-Stride would be as cheap as Saffels I would have bought it. But Still you could replace Saffels with a few cheap items. Lazwar isn't expensive, I bought Rathpide even cheaper as Saffels. So Spellblock is out there. The point with Saffels is that the bosses that are actually worth switching to Saffels don't use any form of Attack you actually don't want to eat. And even with Saffels I still wear Fairgraves, since with 30% Spellblock and I think 86% Lightning-Resistance I still get shocked a lot. Saffels would be just a nice item if some bosses just hadn't such a terrible design. Last edited by Emphasy#0545 on Nov 28, 2013, 11:01:41 AM

" Did you take into consideration, that to use Frame you should be sure, that there will be only spells casters in area? If you take +max res from Frame, it will be vendor trash, because SoL+Globe will beat it with ease, there will be virtually no reason to use it. Anticipation slowly dissipates...

" The way elemental res work make gear check against some bosses insane =/. And it gives much much more spellblock than the blue amulet or the rainbowstrides, even though it has a drawback, that's just ridiculously powerful in some situations. " This one is stupid enough not to be answered. " The huge spell block will still be useful, it won't kill it at all, plus a lightning decap where lightning dmg is the elemental type that has the biggest spikes and is therefore threatening. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" What "lightning decap" if you want to remove +max res? :D Ech, all those forum "balancers" you sometimes make my day. I don't need to wish to get tickets to Monty Python live show. Fortunately, as somebody wrote: " Because: " Anticipation slowly dissipates...
