Let me explain to people how easy it is to do a lottery scam.

I recall a dev post from over a year ago stating that its about a 1 in 333 shot at hitting a 6L.
You recall incorrectly; they revealed a precisely 1 in 306 chance of hitting 6 sockets with Jeweler's (more specifically, 100:90:80:30:5:1). That's why I compiled the results of over 115,000 Orbs of Fusing from the community; you should have clicked on my link.

Even if the odds are correct, and its closer to 1 in 900, I'd still take my chances with 600 fusings instead of paying 30ex more for a 6L.

Also the massive differences between the 2 pools of data tell me something is off here:
Spoiler

Complete logged six-socket data:
71683 - Four-link or less
437 - Five-links
94 - Six-links
-----
72214 - Total

Approximated Chances (95% reliable margin of error):
Four-link or less: 99.26% ±0.06% (99.20-99.33%)
Five-link: 0.61% ±0.06% (0.55-0.66%)
Six-link: 0.130% ±0.026% (0.104-0.156%)

Expected Orb of Fusing Consumption per Craft:
Five-link or six-link: 136 (125-149)
Six-link only: 768 (639-963)

Data from April 24 to Patch 0.11.0
Complete logged six-socket data:
43446 - Four-link or less
353 - Five-links
35 - Six-links
-----
43834 - Total

Approximated Chances (95% reliable margin of error):
Four-link or less: 99.11% ±0.09% (99.03-99.20%)
Five-link: 0.81% ±0.08% (0.72-0.89%)
Six-link: 0.080% ±0.026% (0.053-0.106%)

Expected Orb of Fusing Consumption per Craft:
Five-link or six-link: 113 (103-125)
Six-link only: 1252 (941-1873)

That is a lot of data tallied, so why such a huge difference in % among 2 amounts of numbers?

I think even 115k is an insignificant number to base the true odds on, or how else would you explain such a huge % difference for a 6 link between the two?

So, since you wont let me teach you something in game.... you can do this with ANY ITEM.... i just hovered an item in trade chat then hit ctrl+C ( copy) then Ctrl+V ( paste)
Rarity: Rare
Blood Song
Jeweled Foil
--------
One Handed Sword
Quality: +20% (augmented)
Physical Damage: 31-58 (augmented)
Elemental Damage: 6-114 (augmented)
Critical Strike Chance: 5%
Attacks per Second: 1.70
--------
Requirements:
Level: 68
Dex: 212 (unmet)
--------
Sockets: G
--------
Itemlevel: 78
--------
20% increased Global Critical Strike Multiplier
--------
29% increased Elemental Damage with Weapons
Adds 6-114 Lightning Damage
+3 Life gained for each enemy hit by your Attacks

and this is what happens...
Why ask Why and start by denying before you have actually tried?

No, it's more than that in average according to GGG staff.

And by the way, OP is wrong how to scam people, with eternal orb is even easier than that.

never do lottery without streaming.

Actually, you're correct about the eternal orb lottos. Those are huge scams.
that's why you should stream
I have two opinions on this.

One, if you're expecting to win in ANY type of lottery (especially one that's easily rigged like this one in-game, but also including real-life lotteries), you're approaching lotteries completely the wrong way (if you play to win ANY lottery, you always lose unless you cheat)...especially when getting scammed is as easy as the person taking your fusings and ignoring you. You should be expecting to kiss your fusings goodbye anyways, because even if you don't get scammed, you probably won't win.

Two, I was under the impression that such tactics were not discouraged by GGG - after all, Wraeclast is a quite cutthroat place, so if you get scammed because you didn't keep your wits about you, that's only to be expected.

this would surely look nicely in some game review 'nice game, but beware of other players!'

truth is - scammers target noobs. noobs that we all need to thrive. playerbase consisting ONLY of veterans is a) impossible b) unsustainable because the only way to gain wealth is to (more or less willingly) scam noobs - that is trade. in just two days i bought 5chaos divinarius and 2gcp supreme truth. i can flip them easily for 400% profit.

if this game is openly hostile to new plaeyrs expect to trade with other diehards only. and with them dont expect great deals nor easy money.

we've all probably read certain thread on MXL forums, one thing that stands out is this gem:

"
Trading is mandatory to be viable, yet GGG refuses to implement an AH, regarding AH overuse as a cause, not a symptom of poor game design. Its always funny to see fanboys hating on AH's while everyone uses poe.xyz, despite being a external and poor substitute for an AH. Another excuse is "we want human interaction!". Heres 'human interaction' for you guys.

"WTS GOSU GG WEAPON"
"hi can i buy"
"offar"
"uhh…. idk can u tell me?"
"offer or fuck off"
"um 2 ex"
"…"
"…"
"hi you there>?"
"fuck you noob lowball shitscum, ignored"

as long as GGG does not take action vs scammers noone will give a damn about manners nor morality. but given that top of all ladders are jsp traders i highly doubt that anything will happen

Even if they streamed, what's stopping them from simply just not paying the "winner"?
This message was delivered by GGG defence force.
Who didn't know this?
The least GGG should do is ban lotteries from trade chat. They have nothing to do with trading, and are just needless spam. Even better if they manage to ban lotteries altogether, but I guess that'd be too good to be true.
I'm afraid the OP didn't see the whole picture, and haven't really figured out how the scam happens in he first place. It can be done with any item, rare or unique, and you dont need to have a duplicate with the same colours / links / sockets.

All it takes is one eternal orb investment and 1 fus of yours.

Roll the lottery, get the 6l, eternal it, use your fus, link it, and it's done.

Yeah, that's how it was done, you don't really see many lotteries these days tho.
