about PvP (simple algorithm). now with proposed solution
Why the fuck does everyone have to whine about every single thing in this game? Yes, you will get owned by people with better gear. Yes, that is totally fair. Yes, you can go cry yourself to sleep. No, you are not entitled to have everything served to you, (I want it all and I want it now generation can go and sod off).
How many times did I get owned in D2 dueling, just because the other guy had better gear? Countless times. Did it bother me? No, it gave me incentive to play more, get better gear, and duel him again. These few days the forums have really gone to shit, I can barely read these pathetic threads, new generations of gamers who think they have the right to get everything spewing vitriol in every damned thread. Simple ELO system will match players with uber gear vs players with uber gear. Players with shitty gear will play against player with shitty gear. As you slowly improve your gear and your skill, you will slowly move up the ladder. Goddamit, I'm so pissed off with all of the whine lately. „I don't give a fuck if it was his tenth anniversary with his goddamn neckbeard...“ „If they think I'm going to let them sweep this pizza guy thing under the rug...“ No mod action. Business as usual. Last edited by Odoakar#1827 on Oct 11, 2013, 9:57:18 AM

" its totally fair aslong people can work hard to get those gears by themself, but now we dont talk about that kind of gear, we talk about Equipments they balancing, old items they keep as "op" state, and making the new items "balanced", means those who had those op stuffs can run around happily. thats a huge gap about equipments and unbalanced gears. " Top quality whining about whining. D2 is far from perfect and I imagine OP just fears that GGGs vision of competitive PvP is just time investment vs. time investment instead of player skill vs. player skill. Sure we should wait and see the PvP features GGG implements at Release. Then we can give them the feedback they need. |

Were you expecting that those with poor gear would win instead?
How can you except for pvp to be equal in a game where players are not equal? There's no way to fix this, unless there are handicaps given according to level, total hp, ES, resist, DPS, max link, total # of sockets, total attributes, total armor, total evasion, number of unique properties... good luck "Hey theah, this is Chris WIlson from Grinding Geah Gaimes. This week Oih'd like to talk to you aboaut using a regal Ohb on youh Tyrannical Tornadoh wand af Destruction! Today is youh daaay and I am answering your prayahs!"

" I wouldn't call it "simple". you need some way to "rank" a player's gear level. simple enough with uniques right? how about rares? how about players who swap out to "crap gear" for the ranking, then put on their real gear to PvP. it's a Pandora's Box man. don't go there. sadly, I don't see a solution. matching people with same character level obviously doesn't work, and matching according to win/loss record has it's flaws: one of them could be non-uber-geared who happened to match up with players of slightly worse gear. he will be destroyed by the uber-geared. imbalance in PvP is a reflection of every other imbalance in the game, and there are a lot more than a few of those. looks like I won't PvP in 1.0. it's no use. " After getting destroyed his ELO rating will be lowered, and the next match he fights against people with lower rating, that's the whole point. The more matches played, the more accurate the rating for a char becomes. |

" It's a Standard format deck you IDIOT :P While I don't think that the guy with 100 exalts' worth of gear is always going to beat the guy with 90 exalts' worth, there will of course be a barrier to entry (or "tiers" of competition if you prefer); and the lowest "competitive" tier in Merc PVP will probably be in the 5-10 exalted range. That's very possible for someone to manage if they really want to. Just like MtG, if you can't afford the formats with the highest up-front costs, you can always play in other "lower cost" formats - which in PoE's case is currently level 28 PVP. I've been theorycrafting lvl 28 PVP for a few days now and just started joining queues with my pretty-good-but-not-amazing gear and it has been a lot of fun. |

If a player has bad gear, against what players can he even possibly go on a winning streak? This can only happen against other players with sub-optimal gear, thus winning against them gives not much points. Someone with high end gear will have a lot more points, because he has wins against other people with much points. ELO rating doesn't only look at win vs death ratio, it's important against whom you win and lose.
Also: It's absolutely no surprise that in permanent leagues gear plays a dominant role.
Spoiler
Reminds me of this observation:
![]() (not ment offensive, it's just a funny pic) @your proposed solution: That's something they easily could do in seperate short term events, give players a provision chest like in Descent and Endless Ledge, characters starting at a level above 1 and then go. What I don't like about your suggestion is the orb reward, with orbs involved you go from a leveled playing field to a RNG dominated one. p.s.: Why does Player2 always win in the == case? Poor Player1. :( |
