read this thread for fun, cheap, survivable build ideas!
THE BUILD CONTEST (COMPLETE)
guidelines
here's how it works:
submit a build (skill tree link) here + gear under a Spoiler tag (or description of gear if you don't have it yet), and a description of the build and how to play it. bonus points for providing a step-by-step mini-guide for level ranges of your choosing. also, provide a total cost of gear, and your own impressions playing it - if you did.
the requirements are:
cost-effective: no "maximum gear cost", but try to keep it as low as possible. if the gear was obtained in a self-found method, please mention the amount of hours and previous characters it took you to get it. fun to play: self-explanatory and up to you to decide really. still, I do require good enough kill-speed of normal mobs, to not get bored, and an active participation of the character in combat. survivable: able to get to Act 1 Merciless (at least) in HC league, given few player mistakes and no desync, or 66 maps in SC league with a minimal number of deaths. note: if the build is very fun AND cost-effective, the survivability requirement can be "relaxed" a little. magic find: none whatsoever :) or if there is some, it isn't a primary or secondary feature of the build. ----------------------------------
PRIZE
I will pick a winner in 1 week from now, and give him One Standard-League EDIT: need to keep this interesting to pure HC/Onslaught/Anarchy players as well.
prizes per league:
STANDARD: 1 X ANARCHY-ONLY: 4 X HARDCORE-ONLY: 2 X ONSLAUGHT-ONLY: 1 X and 2 X winner will be given an option in which league to collect his/her prize. ----------------------------------
why am I doing this
the purpose of this thread - besides obviously winning the Exalt - is creating a place where new and old players alike can come and try builds others came up with. improving them if they wish, and generally trying out new stuff and having fun. a community service, if you will :) ---------------------------------- to keep it tidy, ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PLAYER. if you have several proposals, pick one you consider "the best" according to the criteria above, and try describing it as much as possible, as if introducing it to a new player. quality over quantity. also, try going for the "step by step build guide" bonus.
FAQ
" ok guys, I don't want anybody spending an hour writing an entry, so let's make it brief description. not total-newbie-guide, but to the point. something that takes a maximum of 15 minutes to write, including linking tree and gear. if you have a guide you already made, you can link it here just like Rathik2 did. if not, don't worry about it: anything between the length of Boem's entry (@Boem: accepted) and Hodari's (awesome) one - will certainly do. contest ended. no more entries from this point. I will now start picking a winner.

" thanks Boem, but that's not a contest entry. please provide a skill tree, and a description of gear set the character uses (or link if you have it), including skill and support gems. cost of gear (or self-find complexity) + personal impressions of either playing or how you imagine it would play. also, you can try providing a step-by-step guide to increase your winning chances. think of it as writing a guide for a new player to use. This was my last character for the level all characters to 60 in onslaught challenge:
Templar: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUABLMOPBRxGF0ZLhmFGjIaOBpVHRQjTSSqJ-0oxSlPMok26DbpOlI62EA2QT9Eckw1TdhPfVFgUeZVxlcNV-JZ82EhZKNmnmoecH1253flgFaCm4TEjHaPRpBVns2gtKIApzCnhKgYqZWsqrQvtPm53cAaz2XQ0NIh2WHfv-Nq7DjvDvAf8i_zvvPd97760vuq Basically I was going for a very tanky, high life build. I also later added in the idea of going for max shield block as well. My idea for this build did change a bit as I was going along and I was also trying to allocate some extra passives for the other challenge on the way, so probably could be optimized a bit more. Basically though, from the starting area, head left, grab the life nodes along the way, then head down to blood drinker and blood magic as soon as possible. Then go into the Marauder area for the extra resists and life. Fill in the other life nodes and grab the +int/dex nodes when you need them to use your skills. After the part I have so far, obviously the next stop is Tetsudo. Some of the other nodes in that area like master of the arena and acceleration are probably worth grabbing as well, then any other shield nodes you can reach(precise interruption/weapon artistry would be good too). Gear:
Spoiler
Skills used: Infernal blow was my main single target skill with lightning strike for multiple targets or when I wanted to keep some range against harder hitting enemies. Started leveling ground slam towards the end as this would probably be even better in this role. Tempest shield with more block and added damage is perfect for this build. Shield charge was mainly used for quickly closing the distance and stunning targets. Leap slam was also there primarily as a mobility skill, especially after I started using the anvil. My dps wasn't great, partly because I was switching over some of the skills towards the end as I got a better idea of exactly what I wanted to do with this character. It was enough to kill normal mobs in 1-2 hits though and with the gems fully leveled and better support skills and auras, obviously would be even stronger. As for survival, with my current gear setup it has 1959 life, 3638 armor(48% estimated dr), 262 evasion(9% chance to dodge), 58/47/77% resists, 58% block chance, 7% chance to block spells. All of these stats are standing in town and completely unbuffed at level 60, having gone no further than Mericless ledge and possibly a couple skipped quests along the way. Gear was all self-found/crafted except for the Anvil which I bought towards the end for 2 chaos. This was definitely fun and I'll probably play it more. I'm thinking it could be a lot of fun with Aegis Aurora and the new chest armor as well(good resists already and can easily grab a couple more lightning resist nodes, the high block chance would also work well for the ES regen and for limiting how much you get shocked). The new stun support gem would also be good. Last edited by Hodari#7574 on Sep 25, 2013, 1:10:54 PM

Hi all.
Lately I have been leveling new characters and testing new builds, most of them didn't delivered as expected but in the process I realized something. I always level in open groups so I can get more EXP from party and of course more drops. It saves a lot of time. But every time I do so, I end up with 20+ friend requests and comments like "Dude, how can you kill so fast?" or "How do you one shot everything in a six man group?". So instead of explaining to each person I meet how to do it, I decided to make a new guide and refer them here for more information. This may not be a newbie friendly guide. You will need some currency in order to make this work. You can how ever obtain the currency while leveling and build in to it slowly. Enough rant, lets get started with the good information. This method works for every character and any build. It only requires the correct item combination. Some unique items can be replaced with rare items, others can not be replaced. It is build around facebreaker gloves and meginord's belt. You should have at least one high level character on another account or make your new one on another account. This way you can rush your self with way points or kill a boss when needed. Items

Rain of Arrows Works great until you transition to facebreaker. Infernal Blow + multistrike + melee splash + blood magic Hatred + Purity + Haste + reduced mana Skill tree
Spoiler
Apart from some STR/DEX/INT nodes you might need to take for your items requirements or some resistances nothing else is needed.
Start placing skills following your planned end game build but only take defensive nodes. And by defensive nodes I don't mean to start stacking ES. Have some common sense, pick up health nodes and some resist if you need it. The game offers your 18 free respec points, so you can deviate from your end build quite a bit with out any cost. With proper planning of your skill tree you can do it with zero cost but of course it all depends on the end build. If you don't mind spending a few regrets feel free to go out of your way and grab some DPS nodes that work with Infernal Blow. Area of effect, melee physical, fire damage and attack speed are the ones that work. Totally up to you. HC Compatible
Spoiler
Item usage per level (You do not need to follow this 100%, feel free to use your own combinations) Important. On your switch weapon slots make sure you have 6 sockets available so you can level your needed gems. An easy way to do it is making another character and using the starting weapon. You will have 6 sockets RRBBLL. These items will become your "leveling kit". Investing some fusings and chromatics on them it will be a one time deal.
Spoiler
Kill Hillock and get in town. Pick up needed flask along the way, you will need to use your mana flask very often until you can use blood magic gem (level 24). Use quicksilver flask, it saves a lot of time. I use two of them at all times. Always have a granite flask with you along with a ruby flask, amethyst flask and a topaz flask. Use the appropriate flask for the area you are, e.g, docks needs a ruby flask, act 2 needs a amethyst flask for most parts. Granite must always be with you at all times. It helps vs reflect and it will allow you to dive in a big group of monsters. Enduring cry helps a lot also, use it when needed. Equip your Silverbranch bow Wanderlast boots Goldrin helmet Blackheart iron rings Thousand ribbon chest (some characters don't have 17 intellect to use this at level 1, use another armour) At level 4 equip rain of arrows and Infernal blow gem (to start leveling it) At level 5 replace Silverbranch with Quilrain bow and equip Karui ward amulet and Ondar's Clasp gloves. At level 8 equip Meginord's belt. At level 10 replace Quilrain with Storm Cloud bow and activate Hatred aura. At level 19 if you have a 3L RRR item you can equip facebreaker, Perandus shield and Infernal blow + multistrike + melee splash. Don't bother with clarity aura, just use your flasks. Crest of Perandus shield is just to overpowered for its level. 40% block, 3% life leech, 60-80 life, life regeneration and 30% lighting resistance. Getting 3 red sockets on facebreaker, Goldrim, Perandus shield and Wanderlust is hard, best thing is to use an armour based chest and put them there. If you can't sort out the red sockets just continue to use Storm Cloud bow. You will still be killing very fast. At level 24 if you have a 4L RRRR add blood magic gem and forget about mana. Equip it even if you can't use it to level it. At level 25 if you have enough DEX equip Foxshare armour. At level 30 equip Lioneye's Paws boots. They can easily get 4L RRRR and will give you enough DEX to equip your Foxshade Armour. The 20% increased block and stun recovery its also extremely useful. At level 31 add reduced mana + purity + haste This is how your character will look like more or less at level 31. Screenshot taken in Cruel. Level 42 in 5 hours 43 minutes. At least 1 and half hour was afk time or chatting. Around 1k life, high resistance and close to 2k AOE DPS. At this point you are pretty much done. This setup will take you all the way up to level 60ish super fast and easy. Try to look for some ring and amulet upgrades. You want physical damage. Here are some examples. At level 53 you can switch to Geofri's Crest helmet for some more defence, chaos resistance and 1 all gems skill point. Can easily get RRRR also. At level 54 you can add Daresso's Courage shield for more defence, resistance and 20% damage. You will need some life leech from another item or you can use a flask with life leech on it and use it when needed. Items price reference. You most likely will have this items in your stash. A lot of players give this items away for free also. I expect the prices of this items to go up because of this guide, so prices may vary.
Spoiler
Silverbranch bow. 1 fusing Quilrain bow. 1-2 fusing Storm Cloud bow. 1-2 fusing Facebreaker gloves. 1 chaos - 1 exalted depending on stats. Even a 800% works. Meginords belt. 3-12 chaos Goldrim helmet. 1-6 fusing Geofri's helmet. 1-10 chaos Foxshade chest. 1-3 chaos Perandus shield. 1-6 fusing Daresso's shield. 1-6 fusing ?? Lioeye's boots. 1-6 fusing Wanderlust. 1 fusing Blackheart ring. 1-2 fusing Karui Ward amulet. 1-2 fusing Multistrike. 1-5 chaos Please do not start a debate of rares vs uniques. Newbie guide inside spoiler
Spoiler
stack hp + resist on tree, get zombie gem + poison arrow, and bear trap for single support, you have effectively beaten the game with 0 gear requirement, u can even use frost wall to trap mobs inside the chaos cloud.
passive tree Do i qaulify for an orb now? aldo lightning warp + smoke bomb is a lot more challenging... Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

My Arc Shockstacker build. I made it quite long as I enjoyed making it, but I hope you wont mind reading it anyway:
(This is NOT for hardcore)
Spoiler
Endgame Plan:
2 Biggest Positive:
Spoiler
Having a very fast cast speed with Arc that is quite random with what it hits, you will be able to max shockstack entire packs of mobs before your party can kill the first single target, and then it's just a flash. VERY good support for experience farm!
Spoiler
With high Lightning and Fire resistances you will be unstoppable. Not even Lightning Thorns or Elemental Reflect packs will be a problem. Most of that kind of damage is blocked or mitigated and only once in a while you will need to pop a flask to stay alive. Topaz Flask for those moments if you need it(I don't use it... yet)
2 Biggest Negative:
Spoiler
Arc is not very effective versus just one monster. So solo Piety farming will not happen. You will need a bigger fish to deal with bosses of that type.
Spoiler
This is a low life build. At level 80 I predict I will have around 1500 hp. Being one shot by high level boss mobs will happen if you play careless. Same goes when dealing with Chaos Area of Effect damage. You might not want to meet Undying Alchemists on high level maps.
This is my third remake of this toon. First one was some time before Anarchy started, but I rested my idea up until a few weeks ago. Made my 2nd attempt and made it to lvl 80 with that. Wanted to level my current set of gems to 20, so I could restart again with a slightly different approach, and also to try to level from scrap with quality 20 gems. :) - It's fun. :) On my second toon while leveling my gems, I found an item during my dock farming that changed everything. My Items:
Spoiler
So after finding the claw I immediately bought another one for 12 Chaos. May have been overpriced, but when I buy stuff I usually take the first offer I get and I don't mind screwing myself over... I just really hate trading and wanna get it over with as fast as possible. I also bought Rainbowstride and Dream Fragments for about 5 Exalted equivalent, and The Anvil for 12 Chaos. The rest of my items I found, but I think you can get it all for 7 exalted or less. Defensive Stats with Buffs:
Spoiler
(level 67)
Armor: 2587 Est Phys Dmg Red: 32% Evasion: 5% vs. Fire: 71% vs. Cold: 40%% vs. Light: 70% vs. Chaos: -36% Chance to Block Attacks: 55% Chance to Block Spells: 12% Freeze Immune Life Regen: 19.7/second Mana Regen: 65.8/second Run Speed: 2% Notes: Aura Gems are still only lvl 16, so some Values will increase A little more on defense... Cybil's Paw will heal you for a small number of hitpoints when you damage with spells. Arc hit 3 targets with 1 cast with around 3 casts per second at level 80 I predict. And while Rainbowstride will let you block spells, The Anvil will heal you when you block attacks and spells. Here is my current set of gems for all my sockets.
Spoiler
This build is totally viable with no quality gems btw. How I link the gems I use:
Spoiler
Main attack: Arc supported by Faster Casting, Lightning Penetration, Elemental Proliferation and Mana Leech.
Secondary attack: Cold Snap supported by Increased Area of Effect, Elemental Proliferation and Added Lightning Damage. Totem: Spell Totem supported by Lightning Warp, Added Cold Damage and Minion and Totem Elemental Resistance. Curse: Temporal Chains supported by Increased Area of Effect, Increased Duration and Reduced mana. Auras: Grace, Purity, Discipline and Haste all with support from Reduced Mana. Leveling and the passive tree: You need 2x claws for when you reach level 37. If you don't have a 5 link armor, don't use Lightning Penetration. Get as much mana regen from items as you can, and carry a mana flask with you till lvl 68ish. Wanderlust, Atziri's Foible and Shavronne's Revelation are good for leveling with. Get +40 HP from Oak on normal. Get 4% Cast Speed from Alira on cruel. Get Skillpoint on merciless. GET CLARITY! *When starting out, immediately head towards the duelist area and get Diamond Flesh. Untill you are level 37 and able to use the claws, Arc will not do much good for you. So equip your best leveling gear for early levels and just get 1-37 over with somehow. *Focus getting all dual wield block in the duelist area and the 3 block nodes in the middle of the tree to get as much spelldamage from the claws as early as possible. *Get Golem's Blood and the 3 health nodes related to it. Also consider getting the 3 health nodes connected to Mental Acuity near the shadow start location. *Get Eldritch Battery and Deep Wisdom. *Get Iron Reflexes. *Get Inner Force, Divine Toughness and Static Blows. *Get the 3 chaos resistance nodes and Doom Cast. *Get cast speed and fill in rest as you need it. From level 68ish you can stop using mana flask. But if you find it too frustrating, consider squeezing in some critical chance(for mana leech) when you can. There are a few flexible passive points during the leveling progression but I recommend getting health nodes over crit or get some of the big strength nodes if you need that for requirements till you can spec out of them again. Untill you reach the breaking point of the damage dealt and the mana leeched at 68ish it can be a mana struggle at times. I recommend getting the minion node Grave Intentions, for the single purpose of leveling, if you have Gifts From Above to heal the 4 zombies with, and spec out of it when you get close to level 70. Put your spell totem parts in an off-hand set of weapons. Lightning Warp Totem will be quite squishy till the totem gem reach level 16 or so. I supported my zombies with resistance, health and life leech. Drop Clarity when you are able to keep up all the other 4 auras and still cast any of your spells without using clarity. My plan from this point is to get a 6link armor. I have the white and I'm trying to 6 link it with every fusing I can get my hands on. When I get it I will add "Power Charge on Critical" to Arc. Then the gloves I currently equip will make more sense. So untill you have a 6 link eva/es armor yourself, I suggest you use whatever gloves you want. I recommend Aurseize if you happen to have them. Have fun <3 Last edited by VeryBrightLight#3674 on Sep 29, 2013, 6:27:55 PM
