Thinks aren't always black and white about games. There are some things people like and some things people hate about certain games. But they play them for the things they do like, but might be vocal about the stuff they don't like about a game. People are naturally more vocal about things they hate than things they like.

This is why I LOL at all the butthurt over the criticisms. GGG should be glad that people are vocal about the things they don't like about this game.

They were reluctant at first to change the loot mechanics and add permanent loot allocation, but the players demanded it. We got it, and now EVERY single team I've been on since that change has permanent loot allocation.

PoE is a jewel in the rough, and people are vocal about the rough parts that need to be polished up.
wow... if this thread replies are a sample of what poe community looks like then the op is right at least in one point. Ashamed.

There is no beta in a released online game, that's just an excuse the developers use to shield themselves from criticism.

You lost all your credibility here. Please quit and do not come back until release, people like you do not deserve to play betas.

Be fair. There’s some truth in the OP’s statement. This is not a regular Beta. Regular Beta’s don’t last half a year. The point of a Beta is to gather popular opinion and make changes to a nearly complete project. PoE Beta started way way too early. The problems this causes are two-fold.

First is as the OP stated. It starts to look like an excuse. Beta’s are supposed to help put final polish into the game. Instead, this Beta is all about scraping the caked dirt off something that kinda sorta maybe looks like it might end up being nice.

The second issue with the length of this Beta is the “been there, done that, didn’t/did like it, moved on” effect. Many many people have already spent all the time on PoE that they're going to spend. One of two things happened. They liked it, but have had their fill. Or they ran into enough issues that they decided the game wasn’t for them. For this last group of people, you can shout all you want about how the last six months have been just a test and how everything is magically going to get better with 1.0 but they’re not buying what you’re selling.

The industry standard is a couple months for Beta polishing. GGG has spent the last half a year letting people romp around in their woefully undeveloped product and has lost many customers because of it.

It's not like PoE went open beta and we've been playing the same game since then. We've had plenty of major changes to the game and GGG has been paying close attention to the game's feedback with the larger population. I don't think it's fair to say it isn't a beta just because it's lasted longer than most betas, not to mention the OP's point was that betas do not actually exist and that any and all betas are excuses.

The population significantly declined after it was released back in march.

You mean... not EVERYONE that tries a free game sticks around?
Why that's unheard of.

Next you'll be telling me that people will buy a game, play it for a little while and then not re-visit it.

As if there are OTHER games constantly being released?
Or people DONT like every game they play?

I think you are making all this up.
Like you are making up your whole post.

Let me tell you how it is from a Casual's perspective:

Spoiler
I am away from home for 2 Weeks at a time, I play no games at all in that period. Work and study.

When I get home, I have a Wife, 2 Kids, a rat bastard Dog, Friends to catch up with and Carpentry to do.

Weekends when I'm home I'll be Fishing with the father in law. Or BBQing with Mates.

So of the 14 Days I have at home, most are pre-planned before I get home.
Then on top of that, I like to build furniture for family and friends. That takes 2 or 3 days of the time I am at home.

And of course every 2 week break has 1 or 2 birthdays or some similar event thrown in.

Then I also like seeing movies in VMax (huge screen and leather seats etc)

All in all, I can play 2, or MAYBE 3 Hours, on 2 days a week.

So I get roughly. 10 to 16 hours of PoE every month.

But I experience none of the problems you Describe.
AND I PLAY MELEE WITH NO MF! (dun dun duunnnnnn).

When I want to trade, I ask in trade.. if someone has it, I do what needs to be done, if not. I keep playing.

There's nothing to say "I've decided I need this item, I will do nothing other than try to trade for this item until I have it"

Also the whole "EHRMAGERHD I have to use forums to trade", is BS. You choose to use the forums because its easier. Also GGG has mentioned many times that a trading system is being implemented.

Last point, you can't play an ARPG (Hack and Slash) and then complain about the Grind. Are you serious?
Do you buy Forza Motorsport and then say "AHHH FFS! It's all just doing laps! shit game! this game is DEAD! nobody wants to drive around in LAPS all day!"

I've Ranted now. Thanks.
And can I get your PoE Stuff... if you have any? It's more than likely you are just another D3 Fanboy troll.
You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world,
and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.

Spamming mana potions is especially antiquated. It was never good design, not then, not now.

Subjecting such brutality on a delicate flower, I can't imagine. And you wonder why women don't play these games? Low tolerance for obtuse make-work bullshit.
It is a game directly aimed at ex D2 players, it is going to have to survive as a niche game. I'd say it is doing fine for what it is.

It would be like releasing a new MMO aimed squarely at the UO crowd. The game would never be popular but it would certainly find its niche and the players that did enjoy it would probably love it to death.

The game community has "evolved" and in many cases in ways that a lot of us older guys just hate so aiming a few games at our niche is nothing but a good thing.

People who are vocal without making rage posts and/or being a dick are generally pretty well recieved.
