An outdated, dead game - a review

This game is not dying, Onslaught and hardcore have a lot of people playing it. It sounds like you got tired of the babies mode which is softcore. Softcore is easy and boring intentionally for casuals. Why do you call the game dead? Just because you suddenly had a light bulb over your head and realized why casual games and modes suck?

By the way, the game is fine how it is for the casual crowd. You just need to challenge yourself more in harder difficulties.

I'll say the same thing to you now that I said then. Get a job. Get a hobby. Find something. It's really, really sad to watch you come try to tear something down for others because you don't enjoy it. It's the sort of thing I'd expect from my five year old. He'd have stopped several days ago, though.

You are right about a great deal of things, but what you see as "problems" most of us will not.

This game is repetitive, you play the same places over and over... Most of us don't mind this, it's what we do and never question it. I sat in the same corner for 12 hours once in EverQuest because every person that came into the group was awesome. Never moved, stood up, casted, sat back down. That was a GREAT day. We grind, we like it. It's not for everyone.

How is the community? It depends on who you talk to. Get it? ;) There are great people here, but as with anything 1 rotten egg can ruin the bunch. Get a few jerks together and their voices will be heard over the rest of the people. That is life. I am sorry this was your experience OP, there are nice people out there, wish you had met some. Most of us have learned to ignore the masses and find a few people we trust.

Trading? Well yeah, that is one grind I do hate. When I play I want to attempt to make Rhoas extinct and I want all of Piety's cronies to have orphaned children. This is preference to some degree, but I do feel your pain here. Hopefully GGG finds a solution that eases this pain without ruining the experience.

I disagree on some level that "Beta" is a shield for criticism as plenty of people are offering theirs up, shield failed. This is Beta because things are being tested and tweaked. Sure things will be implemented after release, and things will be changed, but I guarantee GGG will make greater attempts to refine things before tossing them into the game. There were skills that clearly they said, "feed it to the wolves" and watched the forums for 3 days and then, boom, big overhaul to something. They are testing. A certain MT could even be considered a test, it failed, there won't be more like it.

This is a pretty big fallacy that I see going around. If you're playing for 1-2 hours a day and you're not "getting anywhere" consider re-thinking what build you're playing, what build you're trying to end up with, and what the opportunity costs of using said build are.

There are a lot of builds which are really effective with little to no gear investment (IE, you can play 100% self-found and have 0 issues making the build work).

The caveat to most is that they require a unique to function, although most don't require any expensive ones. Two of the best that I've found so far are:

Quill Rain - Explosive Arrow witch/templar (RT + EB + AA)
FaceBreaker - Frenzy/Dominating Blow Duelist/Mara/Temp (US + IR + RT)
Ethereal Knives Shadow/Witch/Ranger
Flicker Strike Shadow/Duelist/Mara

And there are a lot others, but these are the ones that I have personally used and been successful with. Have I gotten to 80+ and run maps for 1-2 hours a day? Nope, I haven't and I'm not really worried about it either because I don't have the gear to sustain doing the maps well, even if I can probably finish a lot of them.

FYI I work full time, attend school part time, and play tennis with my gf a couple times a week, yet I still manage to have fun and "be successful" (IE I have fun, don't die a ton, and make steady progress in my currency pool to either trade or craft for upgrades) on only 1-2 hours a day. Granted I do tend to binge when I have a free weekend though =p

Last note, in my particular case, rather than trying to smash my face against a wall going through A3 merc right now, I'm doing speed runs through sarn to buffer my gear so I can be sure I don't die as I progress. (currently takes my FB - Frenzy duelist about 1 - 3 min. to clear each instance depending on how thorough I want to be)

tl;dr - If you're not successful in the game it's because you're playing the wrong build or you're trying to advance to an area beyond your current gear-level.
