My thoughts on 1.0 details! .... Oh wait, there are no details.

If they plan to sell an exclusive interview to someone, something along the lines of "details will be released at a later predetermined date prior to release" would be nice. There is no reason to not say "hey, we have a lot of cool shit to tell you about, you'll hear about it all in one go on a vidya news site." So far, I haven't even seen that much.

If this isn't the case, I see no conceivable to keep everything a secret from the players. Two months before open beta, Chris did an interview where he revealed many of the changes coming in OB. Obviously he decided to keep certain things hidden, or to withhold certain details, but the general picture was there. Hell, he even let Kripparrian stream alpha gameplay. I cannot imagine what could have happened in his mind and in the minds of the rest of the GGG team that resulted in such a drastic policy change. Open beta was a resounding success; the fucking servers went down daily for a week due to the sheer volume of people playing. If this is not an indicator of good marketing, then I do not know what is.

If this continues, come release, people will be disappointed. It literally does not matter what GGG changes or adds to the game. Without any prior information, people will formulate an image of what the ideal PoE looks like, and undoubtedly their image will not match up perfectly with what they actually get.

The "Rocktober" shit doesn't help. Not only has no info been shared with the players, but the devs maintain at every turn that release will be absolutely mind-blowing. No one can live up to this sort of hype. I can't even begin to comprehend how GGG has managed to placate anything with a fucking pun. This is how blizzard treated diablo 3. D3 wasn't a bad game, but in light of how awesome blizzard claimed it would be, it makes sense that so many people were disappointing.

I can't help but think this is another money-grab, but I can't imagine how it would benefit GGG at all. Maybe part of the terms of the exclusive interview is they have to pretend they won't say anything till it is released. Which would be completely fucking retarded.

tldr; GGG is shitting the bed.

And copped a small mountain of shit from all sorts of players, myself included, for doing so.

I cannot fathom the neediness in this thread. I just can't.

If I, or the other gentleman came across as "needy", you probably should re-read both, slowly.

I've already told GGG that they have until release to fix this game or I quit.
If official release doesn't significantly improve all the bugs and shittiness in this broken game, I will uninstall and find another game to play.

One reason GGG seems reluctant to give out info, is that once they say "xyz team member is working on abc, hope to deploy it next week", people expect to see that in the patch notes. But problems occur, and that thing we were told about doesn't happen for months (Jonathon's "fix" for fps drops on older CPU's which I heard about weeks ago, but seems to be off the cards for now).

PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED ANYWAY.

They see a little hype, or a lot, and despite all their whining, their so-called jadedness and their I-quit-rage-rage-rage, gamble on that hype and invest in it. They say 'well I'll give GGG one more chance'.

Guess what? Release isn't about 'one more chance'. It's about improving (or completing) a game that plenty of people already play and love.

I can't stress this enough: Release/Act 3X is NOT going make converts of the already sceptical.

It's. Not. The. Fucking. Promised. Land.

It will be, and I believe this 100%, an excellent addition to the game as it stands that brings the story arc to a conclusion, that throws a few surprises in and is, yes, a game-changer. Just as Open Beta was. People tend to take these things for granted, but I remember how bland the game was with just two acts. How woefully inadequate at times.

The same will happen here. There'll be before Release PoE, and there'll be after. The division will be stark and obvious.

But Act 3x/Release is not going to save anyone's life and it's not going to 'save' the game if you feel it's failing to a point of imminent bankruptcy.

Expecting this 'expansion' (which isn't even an expansion) to fix everything is to anticipate a trick perpetrated by a far less moral, honest company than GGG.

Well said. You get a lot of cookies. enjoy. :)
I know not everyone will be happy regardless.

I'm trying to understand how a blind launch from a long beta helps in any way. For an incredibly transparent development team, this gear up to launch has been a complete deviation.

I'm not asking for the world, in fact my OP even says if you want a dark launch come out and say so. I'm just expressing my disbelief in how things have gone lately.

Perhaps GGG's growth is not only limited to the game and player base, but to ego as well.

I think some humility and remembering where you came from could be applied here somewhere.

They cant say everything that will be changing/added. If something changes or there is not enough time to add it then there will be 1000 topics about why GGG fails. For example when d3 launched there was so many things missing promised features that many players did charge backs eventually blizzard just allowed people to get a refund.

If there is like one week left till launch and they have absolutely no details about what will be in it that will surprise me. 6 weeks though is still a long time for things to change..

There will be articles. Interviews. The usual pre-release shenanigans and screenshots. You don't get to where GGG is (at the near-top of the crawling dogpile that is indie development) without knowing how to market your product.

I think the recent Razer footprints promotion shows a bit of arrogance and being a bit out-of-touch with the player base that has basically funded this game. To get where they are fine, to get to where they want to go, don't fix it if it ain't broke.

Am I questioning GGG's current marketing? Yup. Pretty much.

You guys already know a large part of what's coming in release: the rest of Act 3.

Plus whatever else we can squeeze in.

Spoiler
Rocktober!

There are no details because GGG is not ready to release details. Baffling, yes? Demanding info from a company that already shares more than most is a spit in the face. I would certainly re-access my PR strategy if my customers started demanding info from me because I had been so generous with it previously. Give em an inch and they'll take a mile, and all that.

You don't think Chris and co. aren't giddy about sharing all their new toys with us. Judging from their playfulness with the community you know they are. So, it only stands to reason that they have reasons for not spilling the beans yet.

I would love some info, but since I have none, then I have none and will have to wait. Life's a bitch and needs a buff!
