Voltaxix Rft -- Questionable New Ranger Unique Bow #2

It's a user-funded unique, GGG couldn't scrap the entire idea because of a balance issue the game has and can yet be fixed. That's not a fair position to take.


GGG can and will tell you that your idea won't work or won't be used. Trust me, I've had a bunch of crazy ones for mine that I've floated past them and were subsequently turned down. Rory has been fantastic and I think they have their heads on straight about the whole process.

Someone mentioned that this bow is really overpowered, and that you can get past the drawback by having a Lioneye's in your alternate weapon slot. If you have a 6L Voltaxic Rift and a 6L Lioneye's Glare in your stash, then yes, you deserve to be able to faceroll stuff.

This game rewards people who spend a lot of time playing it. Certain items in this game are extremely powerful. They're also extremely rare. Would you rather that someone who excels in skill and has put a lot of playtime in be no more powerful than anyone else?

Give a guy who obviously already has GG items (kaoms etc) and only 7k hp (think HVR's build that has abuot 11k hp with kaoms) a decent bow, put him in a lvl 71 (lol) map with only 2 mods to test out a build and call it op...

The only advantage his build has is reflect immunity, and other builds handle reflect in other ways fine.

I just don't think the weapon is OP (and I'm not using it), seems to balance out the positive and negative features.

Actually this game rewards RMT and Lottery winners.

If this bow wasn't OP the value of it wouldnt be 20+ exalted. That's the onslaught asking price. For those that don't know you can trade 1ex Ons for 4-5 Standard.

Thats actually not true. After you convert damage, the damage calculation is done once again.

If you have 500 base lighting damage, +50% lighting damage and the quality chaos gem your damage will be:

500 * 1,5 * 1,1

The chaos gems quality will basically act as a "MORE" modifier which is extremly strong.


Though the bow is based on an interesting idea, I dont like it, because the lighting damage is too much.
You basically get 3 added lighting damage mods on one single item.

I see the disadvantage of the bow though: You cant use the extremly effective resistance penetration(curse and gem)
On the other hand, there wont be any enemies with multiple "resistance stacks"(implicit on monster, aura and rare affix)
So you will fight monsters with ~30% resistance a lot of the time, but you wont get slowed down by massive resistance mobs.
This could actually even be an advantage...


Personally Id make a witch with lighting damage, CI, Resolute Techniqe und static blows with this bow. Seems OP to me.
You can even use a defensive curse


PS.: The added chaos damage gem is still not that good, because if it has no quality its base damage completly gets relativated. An added lighting damage gem is much better.

Best bow in the game, no competition, trashes lioneye into the ground.
Requires you to build around it to do so, however. Also requires a lot of currency to fund the gear.

No, thats not true, I tested it.

Converted damage is "base damage" of the new element.

500 lighting damage times 50% increased lighting damage is converted to 750 base chaos damage. At least it works this way with other elemental damage conversion.(ice to fire, uniques)

Its some time ago since I tested it but I am 95% sure.

This is correct. This is why Iron Grip will increase your dps by a surprisingly large amount on a lioneye LA build using a 50% blackgleam.

Its different if you add 2 damage types of the same "type"

If you use voltaxix rift and have +%lighting damage and +%projectile damage, those stats multiply the damage BEFORE the conversion. The chaos damage is then no longer multiplied by projectile damage.
Every damage increase gets applied only once.
