Our view on map drop rates

What I find funny about the original post is that they increased the drop rate of chisels .....

I think I've found 30 chisels total in 78 lvls ....that's about 30 mins of playing with chiseled maps ...

Not sure why it's not an even higher rate since its not exactly a game breaking mechanic

They could quadruple the rate and you'd still run out.

Maps for endgame were an intriguing idea. But endgame should always be accessible, that's really all there is to it. If players feel their time spent playing was wasted (such as doing 66 maps at 90) they will not bother.

I know I get to around 76 and then leveling becomes dumb, not because it takes longer to level. But because I don't feel like I'm progressing unless I'm in a map. I'm also a person that had several 99's in d2. So as I said it's not about taking a long time to level. It's about feeling some sort of progression. (I know it would be worse if I was 90+ and had to run then shitty 66 maps to have a chance of moving back up to 68's and so on. So I don't really bother)

That being said I'm not sure why the map boss isn't guaranteed to drop a map -2 or + 2 levels. If the map is a 74 for example the boss will drop a 72-76 map.

^^^ Brilliant idea :) Would love it if that was the case!!!

No. No guaranteed drops.
I think 90% of the people didn't notice this is a year old topic... Just saying.
I'm in an abusive relationship with life. It keeps beating the hell out of me and I'm too cowardly to leave it.

I noticed and that makes my post even more relevant. There doesn't need to be a new thread for every idea. Just because I presented a specific approach doesn't warrant a new thread. Those discussing an idea that is 6 months old, doesn't change anything other than there is still a problem with said idea. Why should there be 60 new threads on maps a day?

The map boss is not guaranteed to drop a map due to the fact that it would completely trivialize the design of the entire system. There would no longer be reason to use currency items on maps, just roll simple mods or white maps, doesn't matter since everyone has infinite maps.

I do feel there should be 'map floors' or something so a level 74 map is not dropping 66 maps, but guranteed map drops from bosses is a terrible idea.

A quick question for you... what feeling of progression did you get from hundreds of hours of baal runs / following a baal bot? You say you don't mind it being slow going but want a feeling of progression? I don't understand how you can say that and say that you were fine with leveling to 99 in D2 as there was ZERO progression there, at least in PoE there is the minor map progression. I mean, although you may not be able to sustain the higher level maps constantly, they do exist, you can progress from primarily grinding 66 maps to primarily grinding 68 maps rather easily, getting higher gets exponentially more difficult... still more progression than leveling in D2.

reason? the idea of endgame is to be available for the players to beat....having to grind lvl66 maps for a 1% chance to get a lvl68 and then play lvl68 for a 1% chance for a lvl70 etc it just creates a grindfest mechanic that noone will bother....

the end game must be there for players to beat it and not for players to gind to have ACCESS to it....

slayer please remove your head from the sand (at least) because you look more and more clueless everytime you post

If I was clueless, I wouldn't be doing so well.

Not saying I don't have issues with the map system is currently working, but I am 100% completely against guaranteed drops in this game. No enemy should ALWAYS drop a rare, no boss should always drop a map.

I felt like I was progressing because I was doing the end game. I was doing the best thing I could possibly do for leveling.

Right now my characters are around 76 because I ran out of maps and I refuse to buy them. Not to mention trading for maps as ghoun points out is temporary. I like to think of it like WoW making raid lockouts tradeable. How many Molten core lockouts would you want for your Throne of thunder lockout? Lol at that happening. That's essentially the same thing here, eventually everyone is going to clear molten core and gain nothing from it. Nobody is trading 71+ maps in races because they are all being used or saved for their higher levels.

I want to hit end game and then tomorrow when I log in. Do more end game. I don't want to have to trade and I don't want to go back to lunaris 3 when I'm 90+ to get some maps and work my way back up only to fall farther each and every time. Since I get less and less.

Also I shouldn't have this conversation.

"Yo, do you want to do maps" "sure man, what maps you got" "none man, was hoping you did" "damn, I really wanted to map tonight" "Chris said he'd buy some maps but nobody is selling 72+" "fuck man, I don't even get 100th of a percent for a 72" "yea I know I only get a 10th of a percent when we do 77's" "yeah, shit is dumb. last one we only got a 67 out of that. What are we suppose to do with that"

Sure I made up the %'s but I don't have to know you to know you've had a similar conversation or know others that have. Sure there are people that have plenty of maps but that doesn't help me or the next guy in any way.

To explain it another way. I would rather them remove the map system and label a zone "farm here for xp" and make it take 200% longer to hit max level. I'd definitely do that as I said I don't care about the time it takes. I care about how accessible it is and not feeling like I've gone backwards in progression after a 15 hour session of good play. How does that even make sense? It doesn't but it happens to people every day.

Besides.. even if they made the maps guaranteed drop, they could make the map always drop as a rare that isn't rollable. At least you know you have a map you could do, regardless of how hard it may be.
