Finally caved and took Iron Reflexes
Stray, IR doesn't multiply your defensive boosts.
If you have 100 evasion, 10% increased armor, and 10% increased evasion, you get 100*(1+.1+.1)=120 armor, not 100*1.1*1.1=121 armor. Just wanted to correct that quickly. |

Has that been changed? When I was first told that it let you multiply your armor and evasion bonuses, I looked through these forums and found a thread about iron reflexes where people said that was indeed how it works, and have had other people in general chat tell me that's how it works. I have to admit I haven't ever used the ability though, since I wanted to get by without it.
Also, do the skills that convert physical to elemental damage not work that way either? I don't know if I was ever told they did, but for some reason I was always under the impression that was how they worked. Last edited by StrayCat#4567 on Aug 21, 2012, 6:31:31 AM

I believe all conversions use bonuses from both sides additively, no exception.

Well, I like where the off topic discussion into shadows was going. How about a thread where we can all drink tea and talk about it more?

CI/Evade/Block synergy works great for a close range caster, so theres no reason it shouldnt be similarly strong on a mobile melee build (whirling blades being a desync machine aside, since this will presumably be fixed eventually).
I can see melee shadow working without ci, but a build that wants to eschew es entirely would almost certainly be better off as a ranger for the improved evasion, block and life node access. Regarding ir, its good on some builds but definitely has its downsides. Viper strike, the huge packs of hard hitting ranged enemies that occur lategame and all those nasty elemental mods that can spawn on maps are far harsher on a build with ir than they are on one with a reasonable chance to evade, something a pure armor build can still achieve. Reading the thread, I have to agree something needs to be done.
My question is...Has there been a discussion as of yet with regards to adding parry to weapons? Stop for a minute before grabbing your keyboards for rebuttal. Last edited by Tarmalen#3144 on Aug 21, 2012, 5:46:40 PM

Well, I guess I'll have to reevaluate the best builds for conversion skills...who know games with countless stats could get so complicated...I guess you can still build up huge defensive bonuses with iron skin when you get to the steel skin/leather and steel/reflexes part of the tree. Is the bonus from those three nodes being close together what makes you get such ridiculous armor with iron reflexes, or is the difference in diminishing returns with armor compared to evasion even worse than I thought? People always say you fly to 75% damage reduction when you take iron reflexes, but my rangers that were pure evasion and had reflexes/leather and steel struggled to reach 50% evasion.

" As I've noted before, chance to evade% dropped a good 5-7% instantly with the last big patch. I've brought up the diminishing returns with the devs and I believe something will be addressed. It's very easy to hit 45-50% evasion right now (with grace), I think, but damn near impossible to clear 70% without flasks. Maybe 70% chance to evade is simply considered more 'powerful' than the DR cap? Hm. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

one of the best debates iv seen on this forum. I am currently attempting a bloodrage flicker, leech shadow and it seems like the skill tree needs buffing shadow end.
It seems unbalanced that witches can sit there spamming a choice of 20 aoe skills, usually multi, behind ridiculous ES whereas shadows just get crunched when they get hit, bit annoying because the skills they have are more fun. Specific glitch issue, given flicker strike is shadows main movement and high dps attack, it needs to hit as often as chance to hit is advertised. The mana cost of the attack coupled with the high risk of actually engaging in melee with evasion and very low hp/armour means it should be a near certain connection. |
