Finally caved and took Iron Reflexes
"Armour only reduces physical damage, which in the case of the Oversoul is only the falling rocks from the ceiling (and some of the damage done by his minions). The laser does lightning damage and the slam explosion does fire damage, neither of which are affected by armour. Last edited by Mark_GGG#0000 on Aug 19, 2012, 11:00:57 PM

I was under the impression that the slam was fire and physical :O

...I finally caved and took Blood Magic, pumping the crap out of my life, not worrying about armour or evasion nodes at all.
And I'm totally tearing things to bits at level 35 on a new version of Charan with Blood Rage and Flicker Strike. ...Whether it's Iron Reflexes to convert the evasion rating to armour rather than a pathetic chance to evade, or stacking the crap out of life and not really caring about evasion (even without the nodes I have an acceptable 40% just from any gear that gives life! -- from what, 65% if I focus entirely on it? Boo!), there are so many reasons to dismiss evasion as a primary concern right now. And maybe that's the way it's meant to be. Maybe it's always going to be a 'supplement' defence. If so, why even have pure evasion gear? Oh, yeah. Iron Reflexes... If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" I loled hard at that. |

Actually I guess the only reason the Overlord is harder for Evasion-Chars is that the falling rocks are the hardest thing to avoid, but on the other hand, everywhere near him is really save^^.
I have yet to beat him in cruel, but if he would not take my poor old pc down with his effects he would be very easy. I died like... hmm 20 times on normal, since I don't know anything about him and actually that killed me. I died not even once a difficulty higher and died a few times now (since I normally use shield charge to dodge his melee-hit but if things slow down this gets more difficult). I guess Phase Run instead of Shield-Charge would make him even easier or just using a ranged char. I guess a ranger also could just shoot poison arrows on him, since he barely moves. I actually find it a bit strange, that if I want to max my Armor I get Evasion Gear instead of Armor Gear. After getting IR I actually start switching all my armor-stuff to evasion-stuff. A simple change would be to apply +%Armor and +%Evasion before converting it via IR. If you have 20% Evasion+ and 40% Armor+ you should get 120 Armor from an 100 Evasion or 140 Armor from 100 Armor and not 160 from Evasion and 140 from Armor. |

" From 40% to 60% evade chance, you take 33% less damage, it's basically the same as having 50% more life. Still boo ? Build of the week #2 : http://tinyurl.com/ce75gf4 Last edited by zriL#4590 on Aug 20, 2012, 6:34:54 AM

Getting from 40% to 60% is a lot harder than increasing HP by 50%... And if you have good hp you are fine. If you have 60% Evasion you still need a lot of HP since you still eat 4 from 10 hits.

It's also kinda sad just how good Grace is with IR and just how meh it is without. I guess it's also worth mentioning how crappy Determination is as well.

@Mark_GGG:
" That's what I thought too, but I guess it's just a crap ton of fire. Ouchie. And Grace with high-lvled evasion characters adds a lot of damage reduction like you wouldn't believe. 53%->57%DR on only a lvl 3 Grace. Sick. For Ranger build tips, tactics, and critiques, visit this thread:
