Finally caved and took Iron Reflexes
I dont know when its happening, but apparently they are changing the way evasion works in the actual mechanics. Given that we all know that it is kind of un-usable right now, I am interested to see how good it is once evasion has been changed on the mechanics side (they are making it better, its definitely going to be a buff).

" I thought that is what the double change to dodge critical hits with evasion thing was in a recent patch. Isn't that the buff they were alluding to? "Danger is like jello, there's always room for more."

Yea, something like that...I didnt get it when he explained it =P, but I will definately try out an evasion build in the near future. I think Acrobatics + Phase acrobatics is probably a must to make it work (And maybe block chance if your weapons allow for it).
I want to see if 1.8-2k life and full evasion is good enough to legitimately challenge the end game maps. |

I guess the Crit-Evade-Thing was just a minor fix, which was easy avaible.
What bothers me a bit with evasion in general, that there are only two types of hits. The enemies have the option to hit you completly or not at all. I miss something like glancing blows, since it is very likely with high evasion that even if enemies hit you, they will not hit you very well. So basically after the evasion check there could be another check which rolls a random damage-reduction ranging from 0 up to your actual evasion-rating. This would mean that with 50% Evasion you get 50% chance to dodge and if you are hit you only take 75% of the damage on average. This isn't actually a necessary mechanic, but I guess something in this direction could be done. Since even if you are able to reach 75% and more evasion you still have the core problem of avoidance vs. mitigation. You will most likely want to avoid even more making shields a lot stronger for evasion-builds. 75% Evasion and 50% Shieldblock results in only 12,5% Hits, so Shieldusers or Dualwielders would still be in an advantage other Bow-Users or 2h-Weaponusers (not Staff). Evasion kinda works with Shields, but not with Bows. |

If you really have to go to the source, the dexterity class in general are usually the weakest class, period.
The fact that the dexterity stat gives something like +accuracy and +evasion% don't really increase the survivability of the class compared to +health/+meleedamage% of strength or +mana/+energyshield% of intelligence. The class is weak. There are plenty of passives that offer accuracy without needing dexterity whatsoever. And this, coupled with the uselessness of evasion, are the core issues I believe. " That is a good point also. I overlooked how little usefulness dexterity is, which I am stacked on. "Danger is like jello, there's always room for more."

" Why not? With the way things are right now, I think every bow ranger should wear EV/ES gear, tbh. And run Discipline. Last edited by aimlessgun#1443 on Aug 17, 2012, 7:06:02 PM

I was originally going to leave off getting Iron Reflexes for later in Cruel, but after fighting Vaal OPlord, I decided that it's the next thing I'm going to get over damage passives or mana or evasion passives on my SwordnBoard Ranger.
It does way too much damage to be ignored without having some form of damage. Literally, Vaal OPlord will single-handedly crush evasion-based builds whether it be that laser or his strike. (Only died twice) For Ranger build tips, tactics, and critiques, visit this thread:

So I guess I'm the only one who thinks evasion is better than armor...
Besides, I disagree with Charan when he says it's hard to buff evasion without buffing iron reflexe. Easy way : reduce monster accuracy or increase the effect of 1 point of evasion. If there was a real issue, they could do this. But they haven't done it yet. They have much more information than we have, maybe you guys could trust them for this matter. If you don't how to play with evasion, that doesn't mean evasion sucks. Learn the game... Build of the week #2 : http://tinyurl.com/ce75gf4 Last edited by zriL#4590 on Aug 18, 2012, 12:49:26 PM
