Ways to Remove High-end Items from the Game (To Curb Item Inflation)

"
(since it's technically a new weapon.)

Just cause a item has been rerolled doesn't mean its a new weapon. If i have a bastard sword then have a currency item and it gives it +5 fire damage it is still the same weapon. Except now it has a enchantment.

Also if it does wouldn't that be like repairing the item that you have if currency items repair weapons. That is just a step removed from repairing items.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
reroll to me is not the same as augment. I am slightly naive when it comes to specific implementations such as those. Reroll to me means that it takes some template and removes some things and adds others, making it essentially a new item. If a reroll can only make an item better then it's not a 'reroll' under my definition.

I still don’t see how items breaking or going “poof” is the most fun way of reducing end-game gear from the economy.

I still believe that BoE end-game gear is viable, but because the developers seem to be against it the only other option is to create a crafting system that requires player to break items down, allow gear to be transformed into sinkable currency-items, and there has been some decent suggestions in the forum that could also work.
Happy Days Abound.
I think most players would like the opportunity to trade their top tier loot for currency items on-the-go, and could easily be implemented with a npc. Sure it might not give you the best deal as trading might, but you get your chaos orb right there on the spot. I think the majority of people would opt for this route which could create a very big sink for the top tier loot. The player would only keep one or two main sets of equipment unless they're a collector.

Note i think that gems will behave a little differently in this economy.
I do not know how exactly skill gems operate for me i don't think these will be traded away very easily unless its for a big trade. Gems not only can be rare themselves, but the time put into them is very valuable as well. I maxed fireball gem would prolly be more valuable then a brand new more rarer gem. Like in FF7 i would take a level 5 materia over a level 1 any day unless were talking about a very rare type. Unless you're an investor type. Just my thoughts.

A top tier item would *never* be broken down or crafted with. That is the problem.

If there were a more fun way to get rid of top items I think someone would have thought of it by now, but perhaps there still is a great idea floating out there.

By its very nature though, cycling out top items is not going to be seen as 'fun' by the individual even though it produces the most fun for everyone as a whole. People don't really know what they have lost out on when they get twinked by bigger players.

The most 'fun' people ever have is when they have more content to play with... reaching the top is just an illusionary theoretical goal. It's fun to be at the top for about 1 day :P

I think people are mainly discussing the fact when high level players have items of about the same level and have an abundance of them Not when they only have 2 or 3. This saturation there talking about is when high level characters each have 30 top tier items floating around then them dumping them on the economy.

Brilliant. These words should be cast in anti-Californium and put in the center of the Universe.
hmm, i think there is a endless stream of items in arpg´s (like diablo).. there will be always a better item..that mean you cant get the "best weapon or armor". thats why you dont have to remove those items.. players will sell them or trade or use it for a lower char. if they dont want them anymore..

Happy hunting/fishing
That's ideal, but not really how it ever works out.
