Hoping GGG sticks to their guns.

FFA loot blows....
Can we get a re-link to GGG's explanation of ffa? Although I absolutely love the game so far and this will likely not make me stop playing as I personally do not mind it I am tired of hearing nearly everyone in a large group complain about it... as such I wouldn't mind seeing it go. Seems to cause too much group hatred and it tends to break up the 'let's proceed to the next thing!' flow I enjoy out of aarpg's.

EDITED;

Don't mind extremely limited respec; it should stay.

Here.
I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out.
Heard its twisted dreamed inanity
In a whisper, in a shout.
In the babbling cacophony
The refrains are all the same:
"[permutations of humanity]
are unworthy of the name!"
Thank you for the link; I essentially agree with everything they said and do think the 'time vs distance' fix was good enough; perhaps it should be tweaked during peak hours a bit as sometimes it seems an item within a meter intended for a player gets snatched up a bit too soon.

I feel ridiculous arguing this - because 90% of the time in games with FFA loot I was on the losing end. But the fact is that FFA loot adds a extra huge dynamic to games like these:

you have more of a incentive to make friends and travel with them if you can

people can be jerks, that’s true – but now you can identify them

people who are selfish jerks won’t be able to make friends as easily

if someone IS nice, you can actually whiteness it because they leave something valuable for you

Tension in combat and the need to make priority decisions to pick up loot or help fight

And plenty others I’m not thinking of at the moment…

This is one if the reasons this game is already so good! The people designing this game know their shit. – They really do. There are a thousand decisions they have to make, and if they give us everything we ask for, the game would SUCK. Fact is, many elements are not good for US but are good for the overall game, and just the fact that GGG has a timer before loot is FFA tells me that they already did something to mitigate the worst parts of FFA loot abuse.

But that’s just not good enough is it? You want everything to fit just YOUR personal play style?

Sorry, but I think THAT would “blow”.
I thought of this while browsing through the 146 pages of discussion on FFA. (And that was just one thread)

...

If so many players don't want FFA because it makes looting competitive and unfair, why does everyone say it is so hard to find a party with people that loot with consideration to other players?

Based on the forum comments, it would seem like if you join a random party, you would have a 70%+ chance to be grouped with someone that wants to loot cooperatively.

From what I remember of a interview, their stance on respecing is pretty much set. No easily obtainable full respecs, either ingame or through microtransactions. I hope they stick to this.

As for FFA, it matters less to me personally. I think the timer system is enough though. It's something of a non-issue to me tbh. Only play pubs long enough to get to know some people, and then only run with them. Or join a guild. Or play with friends. What's the problem?

I like the sandbox, community driven angle with the FFA system. Only problem being blacklisting/reputation system (which should be introduced in some form to support the loot system) won't have much effect in a F2P game.

This entire problem can be solved leagues. They can just make a group loot equivalent to the permanent leagues. Get tired of people "ninja looting" the item you cared about enough to leave on the ground for a good 2-5 seconds? Join the group loot league. Realize how horribly boring that is after being there for a while? Reroll with the big boys.

Am I biased? Sure. Quite obviously so. The idea is sound, though.

More on-topic to the thread, though:

People rarely know what they ACTUALLY want. That's why you always see whining even after people are given exactly what they asked for.

It's important to us that Path of Exile has a cut-throat feel where players are not only competing against monsters, but also their fellow players.

Sorry but Jay wilson could have come up with this design, I think it is terrible, sorry.
I personally join a party to play WITH people, not to compete AGAINST them.

Sorry, but if you don't agree with the vision that Chris and GGG have for this game, then perhaps you should consider playing something else more suited to your gaming style instead of directing insults towards them. I'm also sorry if you feel threatened or that I'm terrorizing you with this rebuttal. Don't worry, you'll get over it. ;^)

FFA is bad. It makes me not wanna make new friends. When I used to play(just starting back) I wouldnt play with anyone else besides my RL friend Chop because it was a waste. Rares isnt the problem, its rare orbs.

When I played with my RL friend we shared orbs and drops anyways, so it didnt matter who got what, and we just went on a alternating orb drop pickup. Its easy to do with a RL friend cause he lives 3 miles from me, lol. I can just drive over there and go WTF gimmie my orb.

People are inherently greedy. Its all fun and games until a real rare orb drops and thats that. Just losing 1 to a guy who doesnt play by the pre-run rules is enough to force me to never ever group with anyone outside of RL friends again.

Before when I played, most people were good ppl. You could trade without getting scammed, do decent runs with a little bit of crying here and there, maybe some orb thieves, but the bigger the game gets the more anonymity people get to hide behind, and the more scamming and dumb stuff that will infiltrate and ruin the partying aspect of the game.
