Chat Channels

League chat channels. With your plans to have different rules for each I suspect people playing these would appreciate channels specific to them they could gather in to talk about and seek help for etc.

Hm, i don't think that you will be able to chat with people who play in other leagues... I thought of them as kinda independent environments. But of course i do not know for sure.
But that brings the following to my mind: It would be nice to have the chance to whisper to an account instead of the character the person plays currently.
And it would be nice to see with which character friends are online and in which league they play currently!

Something like:
Rhesos (account name) joined the game with "random char name" (level xx witch) in the hardcore league on the poe-server1.

That also asks the question will we be known in game by our forum name's or our character names?

Your character name will probably show up in chat but I would hope that the system can handle either if you're trying to contact someone specific.

Ya i suppose though really if you're any good they will be on a leaderboard anyways. Plus i am sure they'll have a user directory. Once i make an account i assume it public knowledge anyways.

that does not necessarily mean that you have to make the account name public. That's not the way i meant it.

You can just add the possibility to add either a char to your friendlist (e.g. per right click on the name + add char to contact list) => no reaction of the other player is needed
OR the account (e.g. by entering the email adress which you received from your friend or per right click on his char name and the option add account) => In either case the other player has to accept it and until he does that you will not see his account name. And after he accepted it he will automatically see your account name on his list.

Login to the game is done with your email address (which is more secret than an account or character name), so it's okay for people to see your account name.

please have a working -remember account- function :)
email is long .

If there ends up being trade channel, I would suggest limiting the item linking feature to only work in that channel and in whispers.
Hopefully that would cut down on the amount of trade spam in non-trade channels.
