Chat Channels
I would like it if there were private chat channels too. To chat with multiple friends (or just other players) who might not be in my Guild or in my Party etc.

Dev chat plans sounds good for me + trade chat would be cool too!

One addition to my post:
I think that the possibility to creat an own channel would be awesome too. And i realized that you don't need an overall channel, it is enough if you have just subchannels. Now you can klick on every channel to activate it and another klick on it will deactivate it. With this possibility you can make you're own chat window... So it maybe look like that: General | Local | Trade | Party | Guild | PersonalChat "name" ----------------------------------------------------------- @Rustychops: I think the general mechanisms should be discussed as well because if you do that right you don't need many channels... And if you have to many different channels it starts to get confusing... And for me most of the chat channels i saw are crap because they don't have simple mechanisms like /join, /kick, /w playername, /r (respond to player who whispered last) and some more... |

chat system certainly needs to be simple in this sort of game but it shouldnt mean missing out on extras
id like my own personal channel which covers every friend i have regardless of where they are. i think most people missed a system channel or a combat channel in those lists too. i like to have things separate but able to go back to read them without them getting spammed out so other than the obvious. local, party,trade,guild.. id add friends, system/combat/actions and please make the chat scalable and transparency adjustable ;-) |

" Do you mean a custom channel where all of your friends join, or a messaging command like the one on battlenet that sends a message to anyone on your friends list. I found that messaging command very irritating, as people would friend you, when you don't friend them, then they use the command to talk to some of their friends, you end up getting spammed. Requires a lot of squelching. |

It looks most of the probable channels were mentioned by Chris and forum members. Just a small note; I do want private channels also but if devs think these channels cause unnecessary stress for the servers they should be temporary. When the last player in the channel leaves; the channel is gone.

Help/newbie channel perhaps?
That way helpful people can leave it on, and unhelpful people will have it turned off resulting in less noob-abuse. Definitely have one or more system/combat channels for feedback from the game. I remember in Neverwinter Nights, you could choose to show every single dice roll, which was awesome - but not something you want on while you're trying to have a conversation. |

For creating a channel for friends.
- /create channel <name of channel> This automatically assigns you as the admin. - /channel* invite <channel name> <player name> (anyone can invite people.Only admins can kick or ban however) - /channel* playerlist (shows all the players online in the channel and what difficulty and act they are in) admin controls : - /assign admin <channel name> <player name> -/channel* kick <channel name> <player name> - /channel admintalk <channel name> <message> (this is for admins to make announcements in bold over the channel) All these commands can be seen through /channelhelp -Note- anything I wrote with a star on it could be replaced with the channels name to reduce the amount you have to type. Also the player can set these channels up for quick replys like so: /assign channel <channel name> <number or letter> So the player can type /1 <message> or /p <message> to talk in that assigned channel. This channel works like any other channel. When you log in you are automatically connected to the channel unless you leave or are kicked. You can talk to people inside the channel and yeah.Saves whispering between your friends when you can have a group channel. Some say this is just guild chat. Its not.. Only sometimes your in a guild with your friends. Most times your in a guild with people who play the same hours and difficulty as you. On another note these things are a must for chat in online games. /w <player name> for wisper pressing R will set you up to reply to the last person who whispered you. Or at least some key that is easy to access and makes sense. /g <message> for guild chat talk /p <message> for party. These seem basic but I have played so many online games that have /group <message> for group chat and /guild <message> for guild chat. Its just clunky and annoying. /z <message> for zone chat /t for trade. Again I still think this should be spread out into specific gear trade channels. Also again on another note I think this is a cleaner default set up: Overall | Combat ---------------------------------------------- You can spit them into separate tabs if needed but I prefer seeing wispers, party chat and guild chat all in one tab. You can remove unwanted channels simply by going /leave <channel name>. You want the interface clean as possible by default.I personally see no need to split whispers or guild chat into a separate tab.Unless your friends are fanatical chatter boxs. Again you can have it set up that you drag the channel onto the top of the chat box to get its own separate tab.Makes more sense. Linage 2 had it spit into all of them and never used any of them once except overall. Btw the interface I said has been used in : World of warcraft , Age of Conan and Warhammer online. Im sure a lot more use it but what im saying is if the big company's are using it it is for a good reason. Cheaper than free... Speedtree

" yea custom channel which is only of the people on my friends list, call it a guild chat for friends if you rather, just without the guild lol ;-) i guess you could do the same with a private room and adding people to join it instead, but in such a game id prefer it to be alot quicker and when i create such a channel my friends gain entry. its a bit of basic example but back when i used to play runescape, chat room like that for friends and being able to assign ranks within it, such a thing should not only be limited to clans/guilds call me greedy but id like both as for friends, if i dont accept someone i dont expect me to show up on their list of online mates at all and certainly no entrance to the friends room rusty, you do realise there is right click for most of that now right? lol |

I think the only real additions needed to Chris's base list are help and trade.
Keeps the "General" chat to "hey lvl 10 witch LFG" and not bogged down (hopefully) with help me!?!?! and Trading this for that etc. |
