I've been getting a lot of mail about this from people wanting my opinions. I'm just speaking my mind here and not representing the company.
I don't have any evidence to support the accusations people made against the user, other than the common sense argument that he played a lot of level 77 maps with good mods that he probably didn't find himself. Many came from friends, and people speculate others came from external trades. We've looked into it somewhat and haven't noticed any clear sign of foul play.
I cannot ban people based on rumours and speculation. I wish that the presence of a profile and posts on an external trading forum would be sufficient, but the reality is that people report fake profiles/posts every single day to try to incriminate each other, so we have to rely entirely on what we can see in our own logs.
I'm really reticent to allocate more resources towards this investigation. At the moment the war against RMT consumes a lot of our time and I believe that taking people off fighting botters and spammers to further exhaustively examine his playing history is not a good use of that time.
I understand that the only acceptable thing I can say is "I hate RMT and everyone who engages in it will be crushed", but I'm trying to post a pragmatic real explanation of why we don't instantly ban people who have accusations made against them.
I am extremely pleased with our overall effort against RMT. We have destroyed several item selling sites completely, devastated the supply chain of others and almost entirely eradicated in-game RMT spam. We have more tech in the works that will further help keep the economy clean.
HVR: If you got to 100 using only legitimately obtained maps donated by your friends, then congratulations. That's an amazing accomplishment.
I was asked to lock this thread but have not done so.
Chris if I give you recorded mumble conversations between HVR and his friends would that suffice as enough evidence ?
Just by your post and how much it angers me I'm read to throw in the towel on my social status as I don't see myself playing POE again after this week.
Please link the proof athene... considering i played with HVR quite a bit, and im one of the people who uses jsp as another trading site... Do i trade using fg... hell fucking no, but that doesn't stop me from posting there, hvr on the other hand never touched the site.
It would appear this thread is coming to its natural closing point. Before I request to have it locked, I just want to say one thing:
to all the people who keep claiming this thread had anything to do with HvR directly. You're wrong. The sad thing to me is that nothing has been done about certain members in his group. The people who "paved the way" so the speak. I could give less than a rats ass about someone reaching 100. Gz for him.
However, the fact remains that GGG did nothing to stop his jsp slaves. The people who bought maps with FG. Hell, one of them posted in this thread several times. Did HvR know? Impossible to say. Should he have known? Or at least been suspicious? Yes. What we do know is that most likely, he didn't care. This is the part I find sad. Aimless, you are guilty of this yourself. I would be hard pressed to believe that someone from CB didn't for a second even wonder how ome of tthese players are getting such a vast amount of currency in order to constantly mod maps. Not only that, that they have amazing gear as well.
PoE endgame has always been a give a take. Do I mod maps, or get better gear? It seems these players did both with ferocity. There was only take, and never any give. This is the part that is impossible.
That's it. Feel free to lock it mods/devs at any time. I think everyone that needed to speak about said topic got it out of their system, and this thread served its purpose.

This is the message I got from Chris's response:
"We are working hard to destroy RMT sites and botters, but are simply too small, too busy, and too hesitant to allocate resources to notice if players obtain items from sites such as jsp."
Aka, cheat all you want. We don't have time to catch you.
Flame all you want. This is my perspective. A sad day for POE indeed. A great day for jsp.
I am so disappointed.

You are misunderstanding his post. His post said that they would rather focus on the root of the issues than specific people who end up using rmt. They do investigate but they aren't going to waste time when it isn't a clear case at all.
Taking care of the root of the issue(bots that supply the rmt sites and spambots that advertise for them) is far better for the future of the game. Also further developing game mechanics that don't encourage the current state of rmt use(higher map pools not being so wealth consuming).
A few extra bans is not going to affect the game. It will just make a few people feel better which means very little when it comes to the overall well being of the game. I have faith that GGG investigated enough.
hey GGG did you get the message? Slayers said its ok for you to lock the topic now mates.
forum rules integrity = gone
forum mods integrity = gone
ladder integrity = gone
respect for players = gone
gratz on a good days work guys, a milestone in PoE history has been reached, a day thats been building up for ages and boom, theres goes credibility across the board.
Respect to HvR for being a really calm, chilled, easy going, mild mannered dude who has put everything else on hold to hit this game harder than anyone else and stream it for all to see, relentless.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

maybe its less cheat all you want and more be realistic and understand that cheating will occur in all walks of life everywhere across the whole planet and thats something we all have to learn to live with if we want to get on with our lives and our jobs.
