today is a sad day for PoE

I've been getting a lot of mail about this from people wanting my opinions. I'm just speaking my mind here and not representing the company.

I don't have any evidence to support the accusations people made against the user, other than the common sense argument that he played a lot of level 77 maps with good mods that he probably didn't find himself. Many came from friends, and people speculate others came from external trades. We've looked into it somewhat and haven't noticed any clear sign of foul play.

I cannot ban people based on rumours and speculation. I wish that the presence of a profile and posts on an external trading forum would be sufficient, but the reality is that people report fake profiles/posts every single day to try to incriminate each other, so we have to rely entirely on what we can see in our own logs.

I'm really reticent to allocate more resources towards this investigation. At the moment the war against RMT consumes a lot of our time and I believe that taking people off fighting botters and spammers to further exhaustively examine his playing history is not a good use of that time.

I understand that the only acceptable thing I can say is "I hate RMT and everyone who engages in it will be crushed", but I'm trying to post a pragmatic real explanation of why we don't instantly ban people who have accusations made against them.

I am extremely pleased with our overall effort against RMT. We have destroyed several item selling sites completely, devastated the supply chain of others and almost entirely eradicated in-game RMT spam. We have more tech in the works that will further help keep the economy clean.

HVR: If you got to 100 using only legitimately obtained maps donated by your friends, then congratulations. That's an amazing accomplishment.

I was asked to lock this thread but have not done so.

Good response, fair and mature.

You got a business to run and we'd rather you focus on things that matters.

Of course it's highly unlikely that HvR reached 100 without the involvement of RMT even if it was not him directly. Us players know how the game runs and why those unsubstnatiated accusations are made. Now as I mentioned earlier, that he reached 100 is of no matter in itself.

Am generally tough but i'll give you some slack on that one. Keep up the good work, I for one can't give a fk who is getting 100, it has no impact on my life IRL or IG.

Cheers!

All I want to say is that I wish I had HVR's friends. Regardless if his friends did RMT or not those are some baller friends. Would your friends donate hours of work or real money to see you succeed at something?

gratz on a good days work guys, a milestone in PoE history has been reached, a day thats been building up for ages and boom, theres goes credibility across the board.

Respect to HvR for being a really calm, chilled, easy going, mild mannered dude who has put everything else on hold to hit this game harder than anyone else and stream it for all to see, relentless.

Is that seriously what you got out of my post?

He reached 100, cool.

Moving on...

"He"? You though that 1 guy averaged 23.5 hours per day since the release of OB? By "he" do you mean they? lol everyone knows havoc is 3 people, so don't make the accomplishment seem more than it is.

wow. you people are taking all this so seriously.
RAWR!
god.. it's just a fucking game. move on people. get over it.

if people can trash talk the rep of other players on the forums and its basically sanctioned by ggg and the mods against their own forum rules for the reasons implied in this thread then sadly its true.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

There are only a couple people in this thread who have actually named and shamed anyone btw.

Most people in this thread have discussed how long it took to reach max lvl, RMT, jsp, gear, currency, etc. Never once breaking ANY rules. Quit acting like this has anything to do with one player. It doesn't. Nor is it what this thread is about.

This is a topic that should be discussed. However, like I said, I believe this thread reached a stopping point like 2 pages ago. And by judging recent posts, I am correct.

Its quite obvious who and what your posts have been aimed at, and when I say 'people', don't presume I am talking solely about yourself. I'm not going to get caught up trading semantics with you, we've made our points and I think we understand each other just fine.

I usually dislike the "over-diplomatic" responses GGG make in the forum, but I find Chris' response in this thread very mature and responsible.

if this was after the game release, and GGG had time to "hunt down" any potential offender - they'd do it.
but it's Beta and there are obviously a lot of things to work on, which are "a bit" more important.
all you guys seriously need to think, if you want Path Of Exile completed, or want just one guy caught - despite that one guy being the no1 on Default Ladder.
GGG can't do both simultaneously, because they aren't a 200-employee gaming titan.

I hate the whole idea of RMT. I personally think it no less than a real-world crime. but the stance GGG are taking about it right now, is correct: eliminate the supply. and I believe Chris when he says they already destroyed some spammer sites.
though I wish they also eliminated demand by pumping some fun into the game at high levels.
all in due time I suppose.

would I be disgusted if the guy went RMT? absolutely. why do I care? because watching his stream yesterday brought me back to my younger years. the years I'd also try to compete on the Ladder of every game that had one. did I ever get to be no1, or do a "world's first"? not even close :) but the whole spirit of intense competition, and the desire to have your name immortalized in pixels - is part of what gaming is all about.

right now, I have the utmost respect for Havoc and his team. I happened to meet some of them in-game a few times, and even played a very short coop with them some time ago - despite being so many levels lower - and I have to say their seriousness and intensity is like mine once was, x1000.
people of this sort don't cheat, and they don't take "shortcuts".
so again, I'd be very surprised and completely disgusted if even one of them did.
Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun
