Game has huge flaws, developers making bizarre choices
" How would you suggest that GGG code out player choice? That's precisely what you're complaining about here, is palyers being free to choose to copy something someone else has done. How do you code that out of a game? |

Many, not all, but MANY people will always take the path of least resistance. Never truly maxing their characters potential, or even the games. Some people probably use that staff as was intended, meaning they try to actually freeze the enemies, for a long enough duration for that staff to work. There are quite a few different builds that can go with that unique. Just because many people use it, does not mean they're running the same build.
The fact remains that it is possible for FAR better staffs to be had than shiver, from the generic build point of view. It does have a niche build in mind to be truly utilized correctly, although I do doubt many people go said route. That unique could be used as a support teammates build where they use ice spear with inc freeze duration so others do more dmg. It could be used with FP as is, although its not the best route by a mile. It could be used to use ice spear/cold snap to freeze than switch to a different skill to do dmg. Just because that unique is popular, by no means is guaranteed that they're all using the same build. Edit: you seem to have confusion between skills and builds, which is evident in your OP Last edited by SL4Y3R#7487 on May 14, 2013, 12:34:27 PM

" The idea isn't to code choice out of the game, it's to avoid the situation where builds are dictated by unique items that are extremely powerful relative to their rarity within the game. If there are many extremely powerful unique items that are not at all that expensive to buy relative to the cost of crafting an equivalent rare... What's the choice? Waste your currency trying to craft something equivalent? Or buy the brown item that's guaranteed to be good enough? Not much of a choice. I don't know where you got the bit about "coding out player choice" by me suggesting that the game is not in need of grotesquely powerful unique items that crush rares. " OMG, what a bastard he did such a shitty thing to you. I'm going to tell all my friends on Facebook to unlike him all over again. |

" You mean he did a shitty thing to the game? If so, I agree with you. |

the right way to do bad affixes is caster weapons... a large variety of good mods, but hard to get them to line up right...
stuff like light radius and thorns is just insulting to the player. each affix should have a home... |

" Which ones? Link them to me. Yes, I know it's physically possible to roll a 108 spell damage, +1 all gems, 25 mana, 109 spell crit, 22 cast speed, 30 cold damage on a staff. And yes I'm aware that this hypothetical staff would shit all over Taryn's and be mirrored to oblivion for whatever mirror fee you'd want to ask for. But as someone who's spent thousands of chaos and alch/scours and orders of magnitude more alterations on crafting, let me tell you that it's rare enough to get even on of those top tier attributes, much less all of them together. The fact that there isn't a rare staff that even comes close to the mentioned staff, despite there being thousands of people crafting and tens of thousands of people playing the game and finding staves, seems to suggest that the odds are so prohibitively low that you're better off just buying Taryn's. This has nothing to do with "path of least resistance" when you're talking about paying for the 1 in a sixteen trillion chance of getting something better. That's called economics. |

" Nice name/shame also, it's adorable how like 15 x people pointed out how shitty your points are, and you can't come up with any logical or meaningful response. i wonder why? ;) in summary, you'd make a good politician. can't handle the debate? attempt a character assassination! It would probably be wise to not use the same account name on both the game and jsp. Last edited by SL4Y3R#7487 on May 16, 2013, 10:52:44 AM
